We’ve another four matches to look forward to this evening as the group stages continue to wrap up. England, of course, already know their fate after losing both opening matches, whilst tonight’s opponents Costa Rica are through to the knockouts after serving up back-to-back wins over Uruguay and Italy to stun the football world:

Costa Rica: Navas; Gamboa, Duarte, Gonzalez, Miller, Diaz; Ruiz, Borges, Tejeda, Brenes; Campbell

England: Foster; Jones, Cahill, Smalling, Shaw; Lampard, Wilshere; Milner, Barkley Lallana; Sturridge

The Costa Ricans make two changes from the side that defeated Italy last week. At the back, Jorge Luis Pinto brings in Roy Miller for Michael Umana, whilst further up the pitch, Christian Bolanos drops out for Randall Brenes in what looks a continuation of the 5-4-1 formation which has proven so successful.

As announced yesterday, Roy Hodgson makes nine changes from the team that lost to Uruguay as England attempt to avoid the ignominy of finishing rock-bottom of Group D. Only Daniel Sturridge and Gary Cahill keep their places for the Three Lions as Hodgson hands his squad members the chance to impress.

Uruguay: Muslera; Caceres, Gimenez, Godin, Pereira; Rodriguez, Arevalo Rios, Gonzalez; Lodeiro; Suarez,Cavani,

Italy: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; De Sciglio, Pirlo, Verratti, Marchisio, Darmian; Balotelli, Immobile

Uruguay are unchanged from the side that beat England 2-1 last week. Oscar Tabarez’ side will line up in a 4-3-1-2 formation once again, with Nicolas Lodeiro tucked in behind Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez, as the latter looks to replicate his match-winning brace against Hodgson’s side and fire his team into the last 16.

Cesare Prandelli’s side need only a draw against the South Americans to secure second spot. The Italians make four changes from their Matchday two loss to Costa Rica and bring in Mattia De Sciglio, Leonardo Bonucci, Marco Verratti and Ciro Immobile in what seems to be a 3-5-2 formation, with the latter partnering Mario Balotelli up top.

In the 9pm matches, Columbia look to finish Group C with a 100% record. The South Americans will be hoping James Rodriguez can maintain the form that has seen him score in each of his first two appearances, while Juan Cuadrado (three assists) and Teofilo Gutierrez (a goal and assist) also carry a major threat against Japan – Fantasy managers will be hoping that reports of rest and rotation turn out to be inaccurate.

The other game in Group C sees Ivory Coast square up to a Greece side that failed to find the net in their opening two matches. While a draw may well be enough for the Africans to progress, Sabri Lamouchi’s men will want to serve up a strong display after narrowly losing to the Colombians in Matchday 2 – Gervinho has notched in both their games so far and is the one guaranteed starter in the front three, though Lamouchi could turn to the experience of Didier Drogba to lead the line this time, having utilised the former Chelsea man as a sub in the first couple of matches.

From this I think there'll be

        Germany/Columbia

        and

        Netherlands/Argentina

in the semis with Argentina eventually beating Germany in the final.

Well, from what I've seen so far, Colombia have been the best South American team. I fancy them to take Uruguay (especially if Suarez is banned) and Brazil have been terrible so far but they do have the potential to improve.

    Random question:

Was looking to get an Xbox One. I shopped around and found the cheapest deal with Argos. It had Xbox One w/ Kinect, Titanfall and Watchdogs for 470 euro. However, the deal expired a day ago (I didn't know about the expiry date). Would they be lenient and still let me buy it for 470?

Haven't seen any 399 *with* Watchdogs. It really does seem like immense value that for 70 quid more, I could have gotten Watchdogs, Titanfall and Kinect. 🙁

But it's gone. Anyway, what i meant was that you could buy the console and the game separately. Personally i wouldn't buy a Xbox One at all, not now and not at that price. But i think that if you keep searching you might find other decent deals.

late to the party on this one but i was considering an XboxOne and i've seen the console + titan fall for £350. That and watchdogs is cheaper than your £470, but if you wanted connect too...

BOOM all of it for under £420 😎

I had the same problem... & made the switch.

I figure the worst we can do is lose 2 or maybe 3 pts on the deal however, we stand to gain a lot more than 5pts if Heydari gets lucky.

Also, now that the formation switch isn't all messed up in the McD's game it'll be easy enough to drop Heydari for a midfielder / defender later on, right?

tl;dr: 5pts isn't enough to keep anyone in the McD's. Make the switch.

Seriously, they fixed the formations? Is this confirmed?

If so, are there any outstanding limitations on changing formation or can I safely remove the left-hand player and change formation?

          Confirmed?

It says it directly beneath where we set or formations on the McD's site...

          I did it last round.

Drop whoever you want first & then switch your formation.

I think 3 big hitter forwards is enough, would rather have strong squad and change formation if one or more does not perform. I'll aim to be able to play either 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 by having at least 4 decent options from each

I read that McFail fixed the problem with changing formations. I assume this means you can now change formation and the empty player slot will be removed (not the right most player).

          You have 6 fillers.....leave them in....cost around 7M.

          You'll have 93M for the 17 others...almost 5.5M per player on average.

A bit of scratching around for the extra 1M or 2M but I reckon it can be done.

Hmmm...maybe I'm leaving too much for the subs.

      Don't need 23 players.

How many "playing" do you think would be ideal?

        Need quality over quantity.

Surely keep anyone less than 2m, playing or not.
          You'll be fine.

Got one 1m Gk, two 1m defs, two 1m and one 1.5m mid and one 1m striker in my draft.

Still unable to afford my ideal team. 🙁

Nobody can afford a dream team. Only need 11 scoring players in the end.

Need a sub at least for each position though.

How many 8m+ strikers would you be going for in the McD game for the next round?

I think I won't get 4 decent strikers actually. I think I'll go for a 4-3-3, and have more quality defenders.

      I'm thinking it this way.

Suppose as Jebus says above, he'll go for Neymar,Messi and Benzema. Now if Messi fails and RVP or Robben scores big, he has no backup and falls behind those who had RVP or Robben in their striker combo.

Is it not better to go for 4 big guns and cover most of their points and not lose any ground?

Big mids might work as back up - being flexible about formation switches

Apart from JRod who are the stand out candidates from the big mids?
          Can't see anyone tbh.

Fair point. Shame the French have so many potential scorers in the midfield, always a gamble which...
