Neymar scores twice as Brazil hammer Cameroon by four goals to one. Mexico qualify as Group A runners-up after easing past Croatia, Memphis Depay climbs off the bench to score for Holland once again, while Spain end their defence of the title with an easy win over Australia, as David Villa, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata all get amongst the goals:

Neymar at the Double
The hosts qualified as Group A winners with a convincing 4-1 win over Cameroon. Phil Scolari kept faith in 10 of the XI that played out a goalless draw against Mexico, bring in fit-again Hulk for Ramires on the right of the front three, and Brazil once again had Neymar to thank as the Barcelona front man scored twice for the second time in three appearances. Oscar’s Fantasy owners were provided with an assist, whilst the much-maligned Fred finally opened his account for the tournament. With just one clean sheet over the group stages, Scolari’s side have hardly convinced at the back, though David Luiz and Marcelo both served up assist to underline their attacking potential.

Matip Breaks Cameroon Duck
Despite changing three of the defensive quartet that conceded four against Croatia last time around, the Africans were once again taken apart at the back. Samuel Eto’o missed out once again through injury and there’s no doubt his absence has been sorely felt –without a point over their three matches, Cameroon had a sole Joel Matip goal against the Brazilians to show for their toils over the group stages.

In the FIFA McDonald’s game, Nicolas N’Koulou (nine), Stephane Mbia (seven), Henri Bedimo and Enoh Eyong, with five apiece, were Cameroon’s top performers for recovered balls. Luiz Gustavo led the way for Brazil with eight, while Dani Alves (six), David Luiz and Oscar (five) also impressed.

Mexico Finally Concede
One of only two sides to register back-to-back clean sheets in their opening couple of fixtures, Miguel Herrera’s men almost made it three last night. A late Ivan Perisic goal denied Rafael Marquez and co yet another shut-out, though the Mexico skipper atoned for his lack of defensive returns by notching the opener before Andres Guardado and Javier Hernandez added further goals in a 3-1 win. Unchanged from the side that drew with Brazil, Herrera’s 5-3-2 formation has proven a formidable barrier for their group opponents and whilst a showdown with Holland in the last 16 will deter many from investing, it may also place question marks over the wisdom of captaining the likes of Robin Van Persie or Arjen Robben for the first round of the knockouts.

Perisic Nets Again as Croatia Bow Out
Niko Kovac made just one change from the side that swept past Cameroon in Matchday 2. This saw Danijel Pranjic shifted into the double-pivot alongside Ivan Rakitic, with Luka Modric pushed further forward behind Mario Mandzukic as Sammir dropped out of the XI. New Barcelona signing Rakitic earned his first returns of the tournament in last night’s loss after supplying an assist for Ivan Perisic’s consolation – the latter added to his goal against Cameroon to end the campaign as a decent differential, though there’s no doubt Kovac’s side have proven major disappointments for Fantasy managers over the group stages after being soundly beaten in two of their three fixtures.

In the FIFA McDonald’s game, Dejan Lovren and Rakitic were head and shoulders above any team-mates for recovered balls, with nine and eight respectively. Three of the Mexico back five also stood out –Paul Aguilar (eight), Franco Rodriguez (seven) and Marquez, with five.

Dutch Subs Helps Sink Chile
Louis Van Gaal continued with a 3-4-1-2 formation in the absence of suspended skipper Robin Van Persie. The Holland boss made a trio of changes from the 3-2 over Australia, bringing in Jeremain Lens alongside Arjen Robben up top and drafting in Dirk Kuyt and Georgino Wijnaldum for Bruno Martins Indi and Jonathan de Guzman, with Daley Blind shifting to the back-three to accomdate Kuyt on the left of midfield. Robben added to his previous haul of three goals by providing an assist, while Leroy Fer and Memphis Depay climbed off the bench to grab the goals that saw Van Gaal’s side top Group B with a 100% record. Having avoided Brazil in the last 16, the Dutch now square up to against Mexico next weekend and with a favourable draw until the semi-finals, look set for further investment as Fantasy managers use unlimited transfers to freshen up their squads ahead of the knockout stages.

Sampaoli’s Side Fail to Make a Breakthrough
Unsurprisingly, Jorge Sampaoli retained the same 3-4-1-2 formation that saw off Spain in Matchday 2. The only alteration to the personnel saw Arturo Vidal drop out for Charles Aranguiz behind the front two but despite dominating the game with 68% possession, the South Americans were poor in the final third and mustered just a single effort on target from a total of eight attempts. With an upcoming clash against Brazil now on their agenda, owners of the likes of Alexis Sanchez may be thinking twice over holding the Barcelona man, though the hosts dodgy defence could easily afford their opponents enough chances to cause a major shock next time around.

In the FIFA McDonald’s game, Daley Blind and Nigel de Jong’s seven recovered balls were joint-top for the Dutch, with Dirk Kuyt next best on five. For Chile, Gary Medel led the way with ten of his side’s total of 28 – indeed, he was the only player to manage more than four.

Spain Find Their Form
The defending champions head home having swept aside Australia in their final group clash. Vicente del Bosque made sweeping changes to the side that lost against Chile, though Sergio Ramos and Jordi Alba owners were treated to a clean sheet after keeping their places – along with Xabi Alonso and Andre Iniesta – in the starting XI. With Diego Costa benched, David Villa and Fernando Torres notched a goal apiece before substitute Juan Mata slotted home the third. With most Fantasy games now offering us unlimited transfers prior to the knockout stages, a mass exodus of Spain’s premium-priced assets is now underway.

Aussies Struggle Without Cahill
With Tim Cahill suspended, Australia offered next to nothing in attack and failed to register a single attempt on target. The former Everton man – who had scored in each of the first two games – was replaced by Adam Taggart up front and without their talisman on board, Ange Postecoglou’s side turned in the most disappointing display of their campaign.

In the FIFA McDonald’s game, Spain led the way for recovered balls by 64-47. Alba registered an incredible 16, while Juanfran and Xabi Alonso (both eight), Raul Albiol (seven), Santi Cazorla, Ramos and Iniesta (five) also stood out. Mile Jedinak’s nine was top for Australia, with Matt McKay (eight), Matthew Spiranovic’s seven and Ryan McGowan (five) next best.

Nevertheless, Jose Pekerman feels comfortable enough to rest a couple of players ahead of the next round as team captain Mario Yepes along with the impressive winger Juan Cuadrado will sit that one out.

Porto striker Jackson Martinez is expected to start alongside Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca, while Juventus midfielder Fredy Guarin could feature in the starting line-up as well.

It really wouldn't be a surprise, would it?

This is exactly why you buy a squad of players rather than a team. Most people playing McD's seem to have picked a team of players for the first 2 rounds of fixtures only with little regard to the liklehood of rest/rotation amongst the stronger sides in fixture 3.

    CHANGING FORMATION MID ROUND

I am running a mini league on this mcd game - I changed formation on Sunday night and took out Lukakus points, changed formation from 343 to 442 and replaced with an Algerian defender. no problem as I was told on here I could do it.

I have a couple of people in my mini league who are saying they are trying to do similar but the game is taking out the wrong players.

Does anyone have any definitive rules/techniquiqes to get this right/avoid wrong players being removed?

I have tried to explain to them but struggling.

    Any advice much appreciated.

Well that's great! My wife was on her phone looking at her team earlier today and managed to accidentally remove Ramos and Luiz from her team (a combined total of 19 points). As she doesn't have too many other great players, she has now completely lost interest in our league. While I am disappointed for her, I am also worried that it will make it more difficult for me to convince her that we need to watch all of the games!! 😉

Matteo Darmian was spotted at the age of 14 by Beniamino Abate, a former goalkeeper tasked with scouting Lombardy for young talent by AC Milan.

And he is the father of Ignazio Abate, whose spot has been taken by the versatile Darmian in this WC.

    That's cute.

Just watched the highlights of yesterday's games and I have to say how impressive I think Mexico have been. The dutch have Robben and van Persie of cause, but do you think that the Mexican's could get the win?

WR, it's the quantity of posts just as much as the quality that bothers me. 4 or 5 years ago this forum was actually a enjoyable place to be and participate in. As the sites popularity has grown the percentage of worthwhile posters obviously hasn't decreased but it's just harder to locate them amongst the hordes of kids and idiots that clog the place up on a daily basis.

I can't go through another Saturday afternoon of single line posts which add absolutely nothing and anywhere else would be classed as spam.

If the moderators aren't willing to bother to do their jobs properly and actually moderate every once in a while then the least they can do is give us paying members a chance to participate in proper discussion away from the majority of these lizards.

I'm sorry but where were you before the World Cup started? There were about 10 people on here every day begging for stuff to liven the chat up a bit, so it eventually resorted to just banter and trolls were given more tolerance for a bit (aka Willis 😉 ).

Also, by saying this "As the sites popularity has grown the percentage of worthwhile posters obviously hasn't decreased but it's just harder to locate them amongst the hordes of kids and idiots that clog the place up on a daily basis." You ARE saying that the percentage of worthwhile posters has decreased, if there are more "kids and idiots" then the percentage overall of "worthwhile" posters is inevitably going down, so you're basically insulting the majority of the community.

Tell me again, how does this put you on a higher pedestal than those "kids and idiots"?

If you don't want to be part of the community and find everyone annoying or "not to your standard" then leave.

I can't just leave, I've invested far too much time and money into this place for that to be a viable option.

I even donated heavily to the site before they created memberships which is why it's a little annoying that Mark or anyone else can't be bothered to respond to any criticisms on the way they run the place. As long as they're increasing memberships and making their little Podcasts then they're quite content to see the forum destroyed like this,

And your solution to this problem is to completely stunt the potential for any future growth? Nobody is going to stumble across the site and buy membership straight away, people generally like to give the forum a try for a few months before forking over £12.50.

What you're suggesting is having a members only forum, so new people stumbling across the site, will only see the "non-members" forum, which you say yourself has a lesser standard of post (which is complete bull, some of the best posters on here aren't members) and the forums will be less active. So why would people stick around?

"I even donated heavily to the site before they created memberships which is why it's a little annoying that Mark or anyone else can't be bothered to respond to any criticisms on the way they run the place."
You just seem bitter that it's not just you and your mates any more, this place is getting more popular as its a great community and fantastic forum with good banter, info, help and welcoming posters. If you're not going to accommodate those newbies then it doesn't matter how much you donate, the site will die out.

To say we haven't cared or invested in the problems you talk about simply isn't true.

Last year we rolled out HomeCrowd, something that took about 18-months to design and develop and something which cost me a great deal of time and money. Myself and Ed were dedicated to it.

I agree we still have issues but, quite simply, our community is unique. Any site with our level of activity would have the same issues. There's no ready-made solution. Find me a site with similar level of activity (5-10,000 comments a day) and I'll gladly examine how they handle it and put the same solutions in place.

We're still developing Matchday chat to help with the weekend activity but it all takes time and money to do. We will get it done but everything takes time to build, test and implement.

To say we don't care, haven't cared and aren't investing time and money to fix or make things better is just wrong.

Thanks for replying. I didn't mean to talk down your efforts when it comes to building and improving the site, I was just annoyed that it didn't seem possible to be able to vent any frustrations without a whole string of dismissive and abusive responses.

Is the idea of a members only forum a complete non-starter? If so, why? I know that a large portion of the old regulars feel it would be massively beneficial and huge incentive to renew membership.

Regarding your comment about the mods:

"If the moderators aren't willing to bother to do their jobs properly and actually moderate every once in a while then the least they can do is give us paying members a chance to participate in proper discussion away from the majority of these lizards."

You should remember that the mods help out in their spare time on a voluntary basis because they are committed to improving the community, yet whatever the mods do, they are deemed as being too heavy-handed by some or too soft by others. Having consistent and fair moderating policies which serve all users of the site is easier said than done.

But if he was that concerned, Yaya could have decided to miss the Ivory Coast preparations or even World Cup for his brothers final moments.

Instead, he's pissed off at MCI for not letting him pop by at the end of the season. He could have just gone anyway, if it was that important.

Italia (3-5-2): Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Darmian, Marchisio, Pirlo, Verratti, De Sciglio; Immobile, Balotelli.

Only question is if it will be Immobile, Candreva or Cassano starting alongside Mario.

Never said he was world-class mate, just said that he seems to do it in big games and that's something invaluable in competitions like the WC where there are such few games and 1 moment can make or break your campaign.
