With just a few hours remaining until the quarter-finals of Brazil 2014 get underway, we turn our attentions to PlayON’s World Cup Game this morning. Bearing in mind that all eight group winners are still in with a chance of winning the tournament, there are plenty of in-form options for us to consider in our assessment of the PlayON Player Price List:

There’s a MASSIVE £2,500 POT on offer today just for the Quarter-Finals Gameweek. You can enter up to three different teams into the game, with the deadline for entries closing at 15.00 today. You can enter the £2,500 game here.

Goalkeeper – Jasper Cillessen
Available for £8.4m, the Holland number one is the fifth most expensive keeper remaining in the tournament ahead of a clash against Costa Rica. Granted, Louis Van Gaal’s side have managed just one clean sheet thus far but with their opponents mustering a mere two goals in their previous three fixtures, hopes of a Dutch shut-out are high heading into tomorrow’s match. With most of the eight sides looking likely to score, though, price may be the overriding factor when selecting our stoppers. In the same showdown, Keylor Navas comes in at just £7.8m and is poised to shrug off a shoulder problem to continue his heroics between the sticks for Jorge Luis Pinto’s side. Elsewhere, Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois has conceded once from open play in four games and sets you back £8.0m for a testing clash against Argentina.

Defender – Mats Hummels
Having missed the Matchday 4 win over Algeria due to illness, the Germany centre-half is fully fit for a showdown with France. Available for £8.7m, Hummels’ return at the heart of the back looks vital for Joachim Low’s side as they attempt to keep Karim Benzema and co quiet, whilst his attacking threat in the opponents’ box has already served up a goal against Portugal in the group opener. Holland’s clash with Costa Rica brings Daley Blind back onto our Fantasy radars. Setting you back £8.6m, the versatile Ajax defender has already provided a trio of assists and could be shifted into central midfield this time around if Nigel de Jong fails to recover from injury. Marcos Rojo’s one-match suspension looks set to bring Jose Maria Basanta into Argentina’s starting XI for the first time in the campaign. Coming in at £8.7m ahead of a showdown with Belgium, the left-back affords us the cheapest route into a defence that has two clean sheets in the last three.

Midfielder – James Rodriguez
We keep faith in our pick from Matchday 4 ahead of an all-South American showdown against hosts Brazil. The only player to have scored in all four rounds of fixtures so far, the £9.4m-priced Rodriguez leads the way for the Golden Boot with five strikes and a pair of assists to his name – bearing in mind that Jose Pekerman’s side have scored at least twice in every match to date, they’ll be far from intimidated against a backline that has mustered a single clean sheet in their four fixtures. Arjen Robben cannot be overlooked for Holland’s clash against Costa Rica. The priciest midfielder in the PlayON Player Price List at £9.5m, his role up top in a 3-4-1-2 has already brought three goals and an assist, with Robben also earning the penalty that led to the late winner over Mexico – if Louis Van Gaal’s side are to prevail, he’ll surely have a major say. For those eyeing up a midfield budget enabler, Costa Rica’s left winger Christian Bolanos is available for a mere £8.0m and has assisted two of his side’s five goals in the tournament to date.

Forward – Lionel Messi
One of only two forwards to produce returns in every round of the tournament so far, the Argentina striker is the priciest option around at £12.0m for a crunch encounter with Belgium. With four goals and an assist to his name, though, Messi has played a part in five of his side’s seven strikes – as his assist for Angel di Maria’s winner over Mexico showed, his contribution will be essential to the South Americans’ chances of getting the better of an obstinate Belgian rearguard. Thomas Mulller has also scored or assisted in all of his four fixtures, yet is only the fifth most expensive forward at £11.4m. With four goals and a pair of assists accrued, the Bayern man is the only Germany player to have had a hand in more than one of their nine strikes ahead of a difficult clash with France. Finally, Belgium’s Divock Origi could be one to consider. After catching the eye with a couple of impressive displays off the bench, the youngster was handed his first start of the tournament last time around and sets you back just £10.1m for the game against Argentina as Marc Wilmots’ side attempt to justify the pre-tournament hype and earn a place in the last four.

The quarter-finals deadline arrives at 15.00 today, so get picking for the £2,500 game at www.playon.co

Yesterday I was all set for this defence:
Merte, Sakho, Zapata, Fernandez, DVB + DeVrij and Gonzalez to rescue if 2 of them fails.

Now I'm starting to overanalyze(?) and think that I would defo want to play DeVrij and wouldn't even mind to play Gonzalez either.....is 7 playable defenders just too much in your opinnion?

    Plan is/was to play 5-3-2 or 5-4-1.

Would be Gonzalez, but of course he's the cheapest one so can't do much with that extra cash.

I think so too, him and Valbuena can run over the makeshift wing backs that Germany put out. Not convinced if Lahm gets shifted to right back though.

Still they stuck 11 men behind the ball and Colombia found a way through them. They battered Greece and Japan, both good teams, many on here pre tournament were saying how good Japan were and beat Ivory Coast. So what if they're 'easier' teams, the margin they've beat them by has been huge.

Agreed that Uruguay are a different beast without Suarez, but I think you're giving Brazil FAR too much credit, take Neymar out of that team and you have the worst Brazil team to go to a world cup in decades.

Paulinho, Jo, Fred, Dani Alves, David Luiz, Julio Cesar are all suspect and not at the same standard we've come .to expect from Brazilians.

I agree that Colombia are overrated, but so is this Brazil team.

I don't think you can rule out the possibility of an "upset" for Colombia, especially when Hamez has been the player of the tournament so far (except for Messi potentially)

brazil is not overrated, eveyone knows they are suspect. At least people who know football. But I still think going forward they are pretty good despite not having a decent striker. This game could easilly end 3-2 brazil. You look at colombia, and you basically have Cuardado and JRod, with not much else

actually we wont see until tonight, it is obviously my personal opinion not based on much. But I dont think a team with a defense like Colombia can offer enough to beat Brazil. I watched the game vs Ivory coast who suck, and Columbias defense was carved apart too many times

I don't know why you think Columbia have no chance. Apart from probably the two best form midfielders they also have Zuniga who is a hell of a lot better than Armero. As a team they move and gel really well and their celebration for goals is the best!!

I'm thinking of just rolling with Messi & Robben.

This allows me to invest in 7 defenders, and 6 mids (most of which are defensive) which is where I think the bulk of the points are.

So one captain choice vs two playable players and atm I'm still thinking to go with only Messi & Robben.

Howedes ---> Blind and Valbuena ---> Schurrle.

      Gives me:

      Neuer
      Armero Blind Vlaar
      Schurrle Robben JRod Muller
      Benzema Messi Neymar

Is a -3 for Benzema ---> RVP advisable or should I drop one of them to make way for this one?

This is nice - I have my doubts that Germany will keep clean sheet and prefer Zuniga over Armero. My Fox team is
        Navas
        De Vrij/Zuniga/Blind
        Cuadrado/Valbuena/Muller/Robben/JRod
        Benzema/Messi

For the Sun game where assists count for nothing, Di Maria or Higuain?

Honigstien's preview for Germany against France:

        http://bet.unibet.co.uk/football/world-cup/france-v-germany-expert-v-expert-preview

Raphael Honigstein on Germany: Sampdoria's Shkodran Mustafi is out of this game and the rest of the World Cup having torn his hamstring in the 2-1 win over Algeria. The fact that Philipp Lahm filled in on the right side of defence after his substitution has fuelled speculation that the captain might revert back to his traditional position in the quarter-final on Friday. Joachim Löw and his coaching staff have reportedly thought about it, but all indications point to Lahm continuing in central midfield, where neither Bastian Schweinsteiger nor Sami Khedira are 100 per cent fit. Jerome Boateng will move to right-back again, Mats Hummels is back to play centre-back after missing out with flu on Monday. Schweinsteiger is likely to be preferred to Khedira in midfield again against the French. In the forward positions, Mario Götze will lose his place after a pretty abysmal performance in Porto Alegre. Andre Schürrle, the goal-scorer of Germany’s first goal against the North-Africans, will start in his place.Thomas Müller and Mesut Özil - who’s come under fire - should keep their place. Talk about seven players having the flu should not be taken too seriously. They should all recover in time.

So, it comes down to this:

      Navas
      Rojo Howedes Hummels Manolas Duarte
J-Rod Valbuena Mueller Di Maria Irrelevant
      Neymar Messi (c) Benzi

      A. Rojo + Manolas > Blind + Debuchy/Zapata (play both)
      B. Rojo + Di Maria > Blind + Robben (Rival 18 pts behind has Robben)

Mcdonalds, rate it please. Point out the mistakes I made have made. 2m in the bank too, some ideas what to change and to whom.

      Cillesen (xxx - xxx)
Varane - Zapata - Zabaleta - Van Buyten (De Vrij - Blind - xxx)
      Lahm - Valbuena - Cuadrado - Mascherano (KDB - Sneijder - xxx - xxx)
Schuerrle - Lavezzi (RVP - xxx - xxx)

Schuerrle only if he starts obviously. I'm hoping to have my points set before belgium game, but I have two of them in bench if I need them. I'm expecting one of my forwards to not make too well that's the reason I have 4-4-2. I can change to 4-3-3 I guess if need be.

      Suggestions?

Mcd game. Lavezzi looks is probably a starter huh? I need to make up some ground, that's the reason I have Cuadrado over J-Rod and Schuerrle over Mueller.

no what? For Lavezzi? If I need to make up ground who do you choose to be forwards?

Why are people not getting more Costa Rican centre backs? I'm sure they'll get a shed loads of points for blocked shots against the Dutch!

They're the last game, though. And they could concede a few...

I think if you're going to take some punts, then surely go for them in today's games.

Though I hate the McD game you are correct - however I think Navas will get a lot of points for saves and there are potentially other defenders who will get more points. I'd consider Gamboa though
