Matchday 5 of the Brazil World Cup continues this evening as four sides square up for the right to join Brazil and Germany in the semi-finals. First up, Argentina take on Belgium in the 5pm showdown before Holland and underdogs Costa Rica go head-to-head in the 9pm kick-off:

Argentina: Romero, Zabaleta, Garay, Demichelis, Basanta; Mascherano, Biglia, Di Maria, Messi, Higuain, Lavezzi

Belgium: Courtois, Alderweireld, Kompany, Van Buyten, Vertonghen;Witsel, Fellaini, De Bruyne; Mirallas, Origi, Hazard

In the later match, Louis Van Gaal’s men are seeking a fifth straight victory to take them into the last four. The Dutch have racked up 12 goals on their way to the quarter-finals and, with three strikes apiece, front two Robin Van Persie and Arjen Robben have netted half their nation’s goals, with the latter also chipping in with an assist. Van Persie will be expected to retain his starting berth in spite of a poor showing against Mexico last time around, whilst Daley Blind’s Fantasy owners will be looking for the Ajax man to add to his current tally of three assists – if Nigel de Jong fails to recover from injury, Blind is expected to start in central midfield this evening.

The Costa Ricans have already shown they are no pushovers though. Back-to-back wins over Uruguay and Italy helped clinch Group D and with just two goals conceded over the tournament so far, Keylor Navas has been an inspiration between the posts for Jorge Luis Pinto’s side. Having scored each of his side’s last two goals, Bryan Ruiz is the main threat from the underdogs, though Joel Campbell, with a goal and assist to his name, and left winger Christian Bolanos, with a pair of assists, could also be key in providing an upset.

Key Contributions for goals will be awarded at the sole discretion of the judging panel appointed by TMG. Up to two players may be awarded a Key Contribution for the same goal. For general guidance only, the following will be considered by the judges, among other factors when deciding on Key Contributions:

No Key Contribution is given to a player who simply touches the ball sideways from a free kick, or to the penalty taker when penalties are saved or come back off the woodwork before a goal is scored.
If during a pass to a team mate that results in a goal, an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball, then no Key Contribution is given.
If a goalkeeper does not have control of the ball and parries a shot or drops a cross or the ball rebounds off the woodwork, the attacking player shooting or crossing the ball may receive the Key Contribution if a goal directly ensues.
In the event of a penalty, the player in possession of the ball when fouled for the penalty may get a Key Contribution if it is successfully scored, but not if he takes the penalty himself in which case no Key Contribution is given.
No Key contribution is given for a player who earns a free kick that subsequently results in a goal.
No Key Contribution will be awarded for a player who checks or shields another player, makes a run to create space for another player or shields the ball without touching it.
A Key Contribution may be awarded for an own goal.

Well so far there has not been a real head turning performance by any playing currently playing in "the best league in the world", those EPL players are simply not setting the world alight.

I will say that Dai Luiz has been excellent despite much criticism he is a rock for Brazil and he has now left EPL.

    Thoughts?

        Robben, Blind, Depay
        Muller, Kroos, Lahm
        Caudrado
        Valbuena, Matuidi, Pogba
defenders - Rojo, Garay, Rodriguez (swiss), Zapata, Johnson (USA)
Keppers - too many top performances to mention.

          Robben yes. Blind, Depay meh.
Muller has been on and off,, Kroos and Lahm have been poor.
Cuadrado has been good, apalling yesterday against decent opposition.
Valbuena good, Matuidi okay, Pogba absent.
          Others all meh.

You could add Sterling, Fernandinho, Paulinho, RvP, Vlaar, Campbell, if you add all these meh players.

Anf its irrelevant, as the criticism of the Bundes and Bbva is lack of wuality at the lower end. Navas and Rodriguez did well, but Ramos, Drmic, Griezmamm are the only players I can think of playing.
