The waiting is finally over. Just three days after the World Cup came to a conclusion on Sunday evening, our thoughts immediately focus on domestic matters after Fantasy Premier League (FPL) opened its doors once again this afternoon:

This morning’s release of the Player Price List heightened our anticipation – only three midfielders and four forwards are priced above the 10.0 barrier, with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez the subject of much interest after he was classified as a midfielder for the season ahead.

There are changes to how the Bonus Point System (BPS) is calculated, too. Essentially, every previous statistic which factored towards a player’s BPS score is now multiplied by three – a forward earns 24 points towards his BPS score, for example, instead of eight in 2013/14, whilst a shot off target takes a single point from a player’s BPS score; previously, the system only deducted a point for every three wayward efforts.

A new factor introduced to the BPS is the decision to reward players for successful dribbles. Full-backs and wide men who are willing to take on opponents are now smiled upon favourably here – they earn a single point towards their BPS total, the same as providing a key pass. These new tweaks should hopefully prevent situations where, as we saw many times last term, numerous players picked up bonus points in the same match.

Fantasy managers now have the chance to assemble our 15-man squads with just a month until the campaign gets underway on Saturday August 16, where the early lunchtime kick-off sees United and Swansea go head-to-head in Louis Van Gaal’s first official match in charge.

As always, we’ll be rolling out a series of articles on the Player Price List over the coming days, breaking them down by position.

For now, this is just a heads-up. Enjoy tinkering, everyone!

I would just like to point out that Sturridge managed to score only 7 points more than Rooney last season. Sure, RVP was injured and Sturridge had to deal with a few physical problems of his own(not to mention his coexistence with Suarez) but Rooney wasn't in good shape either and he wasn't really playing as a loan forward most of the time.

And also, some of you might remember that Applebonkers used to run a game called Forward Thinking on his blog and on here years ago, we will also bring that back but as a standalone game. If anybody is interested.

        There won't be any limit.

The concept is that applebonkers gives every forward a multiplier depending on how likely he thinks it is that they score. and then you pick three forwards for every gameweek, and get points if they score.

So if Nugent has multiplier 100 and van Persie has multiplier 5 and you pick those, and they score you two and three goals respectively then you get 200 points for Nugent and 15 for van Persie. Used to be great fun!

    Thought of the day:

Arsenal Midfield is a nightmare.....Sanchez Ramsey Ozil Cazorla Walcott

Chances of picking the right one is too tough......think i'm steering clear until the best one emerges and Mata can be his placeholder with United's good fixtures until then.

Arsenal cover in the form of the cheap Giroud is the way to go imo and, given that there's so few good striker options, seems a sensible opening play.

No Euope to worry about, LvG adores him, and he will be the focal point of Utd's attack.

      100% in my team

I have Giroud and Sanchez, no city cover.

    Giroud to Dzeko worth it?

You have to assume Aguero won't be ready to start the season so Dzeko likely to be the man

IMO no - he's too old to be a major goal threat now

Cheers. Only got room for one 5.0 defender and I'd rather it was Dann. Get Cameron or Wilson that is the question?

Wilson in midfield could be the one.

Cameron and Bardsley are competing for the same spot though i think Cameron is ahead and fpl have the prices the wrong way around.

Considering a few Championship clubs have been linked with signing him I'm not sure he would be that nailed on.
