The waiting is finally over. Just three days after the World Cup came to a conclusion on Sunday evening, our thoughts immediately focus on domestic matters after Fantasy Premier League (FPL) opened its doors once again this afternoon:

This morning’s release of the Player Price List heightened our anticipation – only three midfielders and four forwards are priced above the 10.0 barrier, with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez the subject of much interest after he was classified as a midfielder for the season ahead.

There are changes to how the Bonus Point System (BPS) is calculated, too. Essentially, every previous statistic which factored towards a player’s BPS score is now multiplied by three – a forward earns 24 points towards his BPS score, for example, instead of eight in 2013/14, whilst a shot off target takes a single point from a player’s BPS score; previously, the system only deducted a point for every three wayward efforts.

A new factor introduced to the BPS is the decision to reward players for successful dribbles. Full-backs and wide men who are willing to take on opponents are now smiled upon favourably here – they earn a single point towards their BPS total, the same as providing a key pass. These new tweaks should hopefully prevent situations where, as we saw many times last term, numerous players picked up bonus points in the same match.

Fantasy managers now have the chance to assemble our 15-man squads with just a month until the campaign gets underway on Saturday August 16, where the early lunchtime kick-off sees United and Swansea go head-to-head in Louis Van Gaal’s first official match in charge.

As always, we’ll be rolling out a series of articles on the Player Price List over the coming days, breaking them down by position.

For now, this is just a heads-up. Enjoy tinkering, everyone!

Getting the captain right is vital and you make it hard for yourself when you don't have any premium strikers.

Midfielders are harder to predict when they will score points, I normally like a decent striker playing against weakish opposition to captain.

I understand your reasoning. Van Persie, Sturridge and Aguero are so expensive though, especially considering Van Persie and Aguero are injury prone and Sturridge is a bit of an unknown quantity without Suarez next to him. What other 'premium' strikers are there?

The problem I have with Eriksen is we have no idea how Spurs will set up under Poch. He has a wealth of options. Including: Lennon, Lamela, Chadli, Soldado, Holtby, Sandro, Dembele, Capoue, Bentaleb, Townsend...

Can we be sure his role will provide enough points to justify his premium price? How do you see the Spurs attack lining up?

If he sets it up similar to Soton, which would kinda make sense, I can see Eriksen playing the same role Lallana played which could be very profitable.

      No necessarily.

Courtois at 6m and a 4.0 is expensive but a 6m Chelsea defender is a bargain. You'd only go and smack that saving on Cahill if you downgraded.

If you have a split though, i think its a bit of a waste.

Nice rotation with one being the main one and second playing easy games usually at home when 1st is away to top 6 clubs probably. Maybe a few more depending on form.

personally I feel that money should only really go on a route to a premium defence (i.e. Chelsea) - otherwise you're better off spending on a flexible defence and just having a cheaper pair.

But what you say sounds interesting, I could be well off the mark on this.

Mata- has shown he has potential to score goals when played in his favoured position (no.10), if he does okay behind Rooney and R.V.P he could get a fair share of goals and assists, and at 9m could be a potential bargain.

Sterling - devastating on the break, has composure, and can score from long range. But with no Suarez will he still have the same spark? (The same could be said for all of liverpool's attacking players) Plus champions league football comes into it and he may be subject to rotation.. However at 8.5m he could be a steal if he replicates some of his best form last year..

Silva- one of the best creative players and is an assist machine. With the new BPS he could thrive. At 9m he appears to be one of the more appealing City attacking players - with the likes of Toure and Aguero coming in at a hefty 11m and 12m respectively.

I'm edging towards silva or sterling but can't make my mind up.

Who would you pick out of the three?

      @ Pasq

Not everything is multiplied by 3. Players can pick up single points for single actions that were previously grouped together. There's a finer filter on the BAPS that means that players can be more easily seperated.

Ozil and Giroud I've had to miss out on.

Heard a few people mentioning Austin before the game launched. Is he a viable option? Rotates really nice with a 5th Southampton mid.

What other 6.0 mid/for options are viable do we think?
I'm looking at Fletcher for 5.5 right now

Can't seem to reply but Robsy 15, I'm not so sure that's a certainty. Suarez was a huge factor. I still think he'll do well but to say he'll easily clear 20 goals with no Suarez, CL and hamstring worries is nonsense.

    Debuchy or cresswell?

Although 5.5 seems hefty if he takes set pieces he could be a good option, along with west hams decent defensive record.

I couldn't decide so I took both. But I've got firm belief that Cress' crosses will find the head of Carroll often

Sanchez will be Arsenals Walcott for the first few months. By that, i mean he'll play on the right but still be ahead of Giroud most of the time. He'll be the one we look to for goals. I reckon he'll take free kicks aswell.

In big games he'd be better up front, Giroud offers little in those games.
