With the season now just a fortnight away, we turn our attentions to a number of kindly priced midfielders in our latest article for members. Picking the right combinations in the mid-price bracket looks crucial to a strong start and with Fantasy managers debating the merits of a number of targets, we scour the statistics to assess their previous form.

For the purpose of this article, we’ve selected seven midfielders, no more than 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, who have proven popular picks so far and/or are set for some favourable opening fixtures – potentially affording them the chance to hand us an early-season bandwagon. Comparing their respective statistics, we also dig deeper into seasons gone by in our attempt to ascertain the best options for our initial lineups.

      As an Arsenal fan I can remember a few of them. However, I think suggesting that those results may cause a trend, then the Palace match could be an example of 'gamblers' fallacy'. I would expect Arsenal to win this opener. Or I should say hope they do!!!

          True, Europe does come into it but I see Curtis as their best defender and I have decent cover with Clyne or Naylor and he's always a goal threat. I could always have Bavies instead of Clyne?
          I just found Hendo good value. Who knows whether he will be a success. Im hoping with having both Siggy and Hendo I will hit with one of them and drop the failure later if there is one.
          Lamela in the same boat as Siggy and Hendo could explode,could flop. Those are the gambles we have to take,
          I had Dzeko for a while but I think I will jump on Man City coverage later,

    Feel free to tear apart my team...

    GK: Courtois (Myhill) - Chelsea's defensive record is motivation enough for the extra .5 cost. Will be able to play him any week without a worry

    D: Luis/Shaw/Bruce (Wisdom/Vlaar)
    - Double up on Chelsea D for obvious reasons.
    - Shaw is playing wingback, but will watch his reported fitness issues.
    - Bruce has nice opening fixtures, Wisdom can play CB/RB so I expect him to play most weeks
    - Vlaar I expect to end up on a better squad

    Mid: Sanchez/Sterling/Mata/Odemwingie (Siggy)
    - Sanchez I expect to be top scoring mid
    - Sterling has been LFC's best player in the preseason and will get time at forward
    - Mata has looked great in LVG's system
    - Odemwingie has great fixtures and will be relied upon for goals in an attacking system
    - Siggy alternates well with Odemwingie

    FW: Rooney/Lukaku/Bojan
    - Rooney has great fixtures, RVP is out for opening week(s) and has looked great
    - Lukaku should be featured this year even more, but will look to sub in week 2
    - Bojan has looked great in the #10 spot, has nice fixtures, great value at 5.5

    Lukaku would be moved for Dzeko/Bony/Jovetic in week 2

    Looking forward to hearing why I'm terribly wrong...

      Double Chelsea defence is a gamble that might pay nice dividends.
      However, you have two defenders that don't play so you will have to play vlaar week in week out - might get ugly.
      Your mid is nice - love the odem punt, but - odem AND bojan is overkill.
      Also, too early for lukaku - start with dzeko - lukaku can wait for gw 7

      Not sure if Courtois, Bruce or even Shaw are nailed on at the moment. Rather than rotate siggy and Ode could you not downgrade Ode to a 4.5 mid and upgrade Lukaku to Costa Think you need Chelsea attacking coverage

      I like it, however. The top teams do not have as many CS at the start as they do when the season moves on. I think one Chelsea defender/ gk is enough. Not sure on two players from Stoke either, especially attackers. Again I think one is enough. Best of luck!!

      Looks good, although I'd be concerned that Courtois isn't nailed on, as you don't have a starting 2nd keeper. Maybe go DDG then you can upgrade one of your defenders.

        im very unsure on mata with respect to playing time and effectiveness. ramsey will be less free with sanchez coming in i guess? but midfield, as it seems, makes me wet i must say
