With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

The next up is 7 Shades of Smoke’s RMT.

Courtois (Given)

Filipe Luís, Evans, Vermaelen (Chester, Wisdom)

Sanchez, Mata, Arnautovic, N’Zogbia (El Ahmadi)

Rooney, Diego Costa, Jovetic

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen’s inclusion was reliant on his move to Manchester United, which now looks to have fallen through. Who should he replace him with?

He concedes Charles N’Zogbia is a huge punt in midfield. Is it a gamble too far? Alexis Sanchez is an insurance policy and he feels he can easily downgrade the Arsenal midfielder to his cheaper team mate Aaron Ramsey.

Feel free to get stuck in with your feedback. We look forward to scanning your RMTs throughout the day on this article.

Also, the team had an overhaul after Vermaelen had agreed the move to Barca.

Think I'm ready to go, but I'll probably end up changing my team five or six times before kick-off :p

    Foster (Krul)

    Luis, Bavies, Ferdinand, (Mariappa) (Wisdom)
    Hazard Ramsey Eriksen Sigurdsson (Albrighton)
    Rooney Costa Dzeko

I'm afraid that both Mariappa & Bavies are too risky, both will be subject to plenty of rotation. (I'd have both if they weren't). Foster/Krul rotation looks sound and the rest of your team is nice.

If you could find 0.5 from somewher to upgrade Bavies to Evans, it would be even better

After last night's games Bavies and Mariappa have moved way down on the "game time certainty" meter. And Wisdom and Luis are also not certain. So way too weak on your defense. Rather look at downgrading Dzeko or Costa.

I agree with a few other posters RE Bavies. Ferdinand is an injury risk at all times and all of the other defenders you own have question marks over game time.

Might be worth having a couple of solid picks

    Hows this baby looking?

    Bego - 4.0
    Luis - Evans - Colo - Bartley - Wisdom
    Sanchez - Mata - Tadic - Siggy - Marney
    Costa - Roon - Dzeko

DF is the biggest concern for me. Will keep my eye on the Bartley situation and I think Wisdom is going to start the season due to injuries, long-term, who knows. Is Colo a decent pick? Any better nailed on 4.5's you prefer?

Tadic, Luis & Costa too many newbie punts?

You've pointed out the potential issues, ie Bartley and Wisdom.

Colo isn't a bad pick, maybe look at Vlaar, van Aanholt or N Taylor as alternatives.

I like Tadic, although I would go for a Pelle punt instead of Dzeko and upgrade Tadic to Sterling or Eriksen.

I don't like N'Zogbia, I think he is a gamble too far especially considering that the team has El Ahmadi as it is. I would downgrade Vermaelen and upgrade N'Zogbia.

Thank you for your feedback. The team has had a little reshuffle, since Vermaelen was a confirmed departure.

I plan to WC after GW3 so those punts carry a reduced risk. El Ahmadi is not going to play an part unless there are some significant injuries.

I'm not a fan of Pelle after watching some vids of him on Youtube (I know, I know....). He seems very one dimensional and almost all his goals are tap-in's and headers. Don't think he'll get the same kind of service for Southampton, so his numbers will be down.........just my feeling though.

      Otherwise pretty solid team

    Rooney Costa Dzeko

I am starting light in defence as i normally do and it works out alright for me to build value in the middle.Defence rotates well for 10 GWs or so

Could go Davis - Albrighton/Wanyama any idea where Davis is playing ?

Wilson is a bit risky I'm afraid. He's only playing the frindlies because Huth is coming back from injury. Swap for Colo I reckon.

Like the Nasri pick and Davis is a sweet 5th mid if you can afford that extra 0.5

Nasri got 155 last year and is 8.5 seems like decent value and would probably swap to Sterling GW 4 .

Is Bardsley nailed on ? I would have to find .5 to get him but Colloccini rotates well enough with the other 4.

Has Cameron got his spot locked in yet ?

Would you get Marney for .5 less ? Not sure how Davis will be played but i am assuming in a more attacking role

Debuch & Shaw should be fine for seasons start.........Debuch 100%, Shaw just had stamina issues which suggests he will start but could be brought off if he hasn't improved his stamina by seasons start.

Decent team. I wouldn't punt on Mutch though. We have no idea if he'll be a starter or rotated.

Naismith is a very short term punt too. Once Lukaku has got some fitness behind him, Naismith will be a distant memory

I think this is a good team. De Gea is a good shout, think he will do well this year...Though possibly consider the alternative...going for two keepers that you can select based on fixtures + home/away etc.

I think your defence will struggle for clean sheets, maybe try to incorporate a top four team defender in there if you can?

Good looking midfield, think they will all have good seasons. Sterling has difficult opening fixtures, though I do think he will have a great year!

Good looking attack. Rooney is a must for the price and the new position under van gaal, and Costa and Austin look like they will get goals...

      Overall, good looking team!

    Hi team.

Please RMT if you have a spare moment, I've been mulling over this for a while:

    De Gea / Schmeichel
Ward / Cameron / Steven Taylor / Debuchy / Rosenior
    Holiett / Ramsey / Sanchez / Young / Hazard
Rooney / Diego Costa / Bojan

I've gone attack heavy and had a good look at opening fixtures for the defenders.

Cheers all the best, once again - I really appreciate it!

    @ 7 Shades:
Not sure how much Vermaelen was, but I would look at Clyne. Arnautovic doesn't seem nailed on. I would downgrade Jovetic and upgrade Arnautovic in GW2 if required (Jovetic is a one game wonder, as soon as the WC players are back he'll be back to the bench). Imo no CK is worth 6, they don't make enough points, maybe look at downgrading him and upgrading your midfield. However, with Mourinho's "park the bus" mentality, a Chelsea keeper might just be worth that money if he can give a clean sheet every week. Overall this is a well-balanced team, I like it.

I will rate your team if you please look at mine. Millionth draft:

    Beg Guz

Cahill Clyne Debuchy van Aanholt Moore

    Mata Sanchez Eriksen Siggi Davis

    Rooney Costa Bojan

Bojan is a gamble, but I can't find someone better at the moment in his price range. I will swop him for Nugent if he doesn't deliver or play the first few GW's. He rotates nicely with Davis until GW 13 which helps.

Lack of Liverpool and City slightly worrying, I was considering Siggi -> Henderson, but is Henderson nailed? Otherwise maybe Siggi -> Shelvey, Eriksen -> Sterling. I prefer having Eriksen though.

Any thoughts welcome, rip it apart 🙂

Great team!! My only worry for this is Mannone's game time, he hasn't been playing full games with Pantilimon there. Foster is also 4.5 (I know it's like every other team but there's a reason for that), and he rotates well with Krul and is nailed on.

Otherwise I love the team, great balance. Siggy played out wide for the 3-0 loss, and Monk admitted that there is work to be done on the team, so hopefully they'll move him to the hole where he will be much more threatening. I remember him 2 seasons ago at Swansea, he was a must have. So he's worth the punt I think.

    How's it looking?

Solid. I'd rethink for Luis though since he might not play for a full 90 min.

I also put Siggy in defense but what keeps me worried is the SWA's lost of 3-0

Bego with a 4 defender is a risk, Stoke have easy fixtures but they were leaky last season, so I would watch that situation.

Bavies is not guaranteed, didn't start last night which proves that the threat from Rose is real. I would also have him if he was nailed. Luis is also slightly risky, no idea what the Chelsea defense will look like.

Perfect midfield and forwards, but having those 3 big hitters upfront is affecting the balance slightly.

    Soldado...

Do we think he will get sufficient game time under Poch to become the main main up top?

I have an interesting team I think (due to the uncertainty of Chelsea defensive lineup, I have decided to completely avoid it).

    Please RMT out of 10.

    Bego / 4m

    Debuchy Evans Ward Bavies Wisdom

    Hazard Mata Erikson Snoddy Siggy

    Austin Rooney Costa

No City or Liverpool attack the two highest scorers last season, its a risk to go without but i guess you're playing the fixtures.

Its a solid team but i think you can afford to lose some of the invested cash in Bavies and either siggy/snoddy to upgrade Austin.

      Ward over Caulker for me.

      Prefer B marginally.

I think you should go hard on attackers.

UPDATE: Here's the team I'd prefer you gave feedback on. Unfortunately, my submission last night was probably too late to make this morning's article.

    Begovic (Gilks)
Filipe Luís, Shaw, Debuchy (Hutton, Wisdom)
Hazard, Mata, Arnautovic, N'Zogbia (El Ahmadi)
    Diego Costa, Rooney, Jovetic

The big decisions felt easy with this lot. A planned gameweek 3 Wildcard makes the selection process much simplified and I'll have a further 3 weeks to scout preseason bandwagons and new arrivals.

3-4-3 is the Fantasy formation of choice at 7shadesofsmoke and recruitment began with the loading up of six of the key assets from Manchester United and Chelsea - the two big sides with rock solid fixtures.

Stoke strike me as potential overachievers for the coming campaign so Arnautovic is in ahead of the popular Siggy and Begovic gets the #1 Jersey off the bat (though I am not overly confident in Mark Hughes' side as a solid source of defensive returns).

Charles N'Zogbia was too alluring for me to pass up, given the Wildcard strategy. He's a proper differential - 0.2% ownership - with nice fixtures and an apparent new lease of life if preseason is anything to go by.

Of course, I'd be a mad man to not consider an insurance policy with doubts over Shaw and Luís, Jovetic and the mighty Charles. 1m in the bank permits Jovetic to Dzeko, N'Zogbia to Siggy and Shaw/Luis to Cahill/Evans.

Biggest fear: Sanchez. I've had him in the team for weeks but with two tight games to kick things off, I'm going to run the risk and wait for my Wildcard.

      Love it overall,

Shaw and Luis look slight risks GW1 at least but season long should be gold.

      N'Zog is essential

Love Jovetic as i know you do too.

Lack of Liverpool attack and Ramsey/Sanchez are my only real concerns!

        Cheers D,

Shaw/Luís are in there if Demi gives them the thumbs up for GW1. Otherwise i'll go safe with Cahill/JEvans until the WC.

        Thanks LA.

The United/Chelsea defensive cover is definitely something i'm remaining watchful over. Would love it if Shaw got the thumbs up, I'm expecting big things from him this year.

But as you say, there is a safe option should he remain a doubt.
