With just six days remaining until the 2014/15 season gets up and running, City and Arsenal go head-to-head for the Community Shield this afternoon. As expected, both side’s starting line-ups have been heavily influenced by a lack of pre-season action for a number of World Cup stars, though Arsene Wenger hands all three of his main summer signings competitive debuts:

Man City Starting XI: Caballero; Clichy, Boyata, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernando, Toure, Nasri; Jovetic, Dzeko

Arsenal Starting XI: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs; Arteta, Wilshere; Alexis, Ramsey, Cazorla; Sanogo

For City, Stevan Jovetic has the chance to continue the form which has harvested five goals over the summer so far. The Montenegro international is partnered by Edin Dzeko up top and, whilst the likes of Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure also make the XI, Arsenal will be optimistic of taking advantage of an experimental City backline, which sees Gael Clichy fielded as a right-back once again and Aleks Kolarov patrolling the left.

Arsene Wenger names Mathieu Debuchy and Callum Chambers in defence alongside Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Aaron Ramsey owners will be buoyed by what appears to be a move to the attacking midfield three alongside Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere sitting in front of the defence. Up front, Sanchez’ role out wide means Yaya Sanogo gets the nod after his four-goal demolition of Benfica in last week’s Emirates Cup, with Olivier Giroud warming the bench again.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Just to let you all know, the VORP interactive table is available if you look in the members tables in the members section, however, the post about it will come later on, hopefully as an article.

Its a method of calculating player value, by comparing them to an alternative in the position. That is included in the score.

Basically, the higher the VORP score the better.

Its essentially the higher up the player, the better. The VORP score is a value score. You can chose the position to view and narrow it down to teams to view specific players, and compare players like Eriksen and Lamela or Hazard and Fabregas. The higher the VORP, the better. In some cases, players are there due to price, but they may be good options.

Excellent! I'm looking forward to the article.
I think this is a much better way to evaluate players, certainly better than a simple points/price.
I'll have a look at the tables tonight.

Repost from couple of days ago, we'll see how it goes 😉
    ********************************************************************

Pointless article, everything depends on who scores next sunday

Sanchez scores, Ramsey don't => 'Decided to go with Sanchez, because of huge ownership and his likely to be fpl top scorer this year'

Ramsey scores, Sanchez don't => 'Ramsey is better value and it can take some time for Sanchez to settle, better play safe at start'.

Both scores => 'Ramsey is better value...'.

Neither scores => 'I just had an idea to start without Arsenal mid, wait for couple of gw's and look then who to get. Their fixtures are not amazing and I might even double on Chelsea boys or get Yaya/Nasri/Silva (depends how they score on that same match of course) for start. Toughts?'.

Oh yeah, we try to be so clever, but in the end, it's all about knee jerk - for casuals and for us 🙂

He'll play, but not sure how much. I expect he'll share left wing back with Brady in the 352. If we use a back four he then competes with Figueroa.

Right now the only certainties I see in our back line are Davies and Chester. Good competition now for the other spots.
