With just six days remaining until the 2014/15 season gets up and running, City and Arsenal go head-to-head for the Community Shield this afternoon. As expected, both side’s starting line-ups have been heavily influenced by a lack of pre-season action for a number of World Cup stars, though Arsene Wenger hands all three of his main summer signings competitive debuts:

Man City Starting XI: Caballero; Clichy, Boyata, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernando, Toure, Nasri; Jovetic, Dzeko

Arsenal Starting XI: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs; Arteta, Wilshere; Alexis, Ramsey, Cazorla; Sanogo

For City, Stevan Jovetic has the chance to continue the form which has harvested five goals over the summer so far. The Montenegro international is partnered by Edin Dzeko up top and, whilst the likes of Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure also make the XI, Arsenal will be optimistic of taking advantage of an experimental City backline, which sees Gael Clichy fielded as a right-back once again and Aleks Kolarov patrolling the left.

Arsene Wenger names Mathieu Debuchy and Callum Chambers in defence alongside Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Aaron Ramsey owners will be buoyed by what appears to be a move to the attacking midfield three alongside Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere sitting in front of the defence. Up front, Sanchez’ role out wide means Yaya Sanogo gets the nod after his four-goal demolition of Benfica in last week’s Emirates Cup, with Olivier Giroud warming the bench again.

    Lamella or Eriksen?

Watching pre-season footage. and im not convinced with Lamella.

Yes he has scored goals. But he seems to play rather deep in the number 10 role, droping off into mid to receive the ball, but then struggles to beat a man and tries skills often but fails to get past his man. Gives the ball away a bit too. He looks like he has quite a way to improve before being a goal scoring premier league midfielder.

Doubt he will get that kind of space and time against prem teams.

So with this said, im leaning towards Eriksen, as his deadball quality is second to none. Give Eriksen the ball at his feet, and he keeps it well, gets out of tricky situations, great weight and precision on passes and crosses, great set piece taker.

Am i right to go with Eriksen?>

Interesting because I thought Lamela looked very promising. Very lively and dangerous at times, and he will only improve don't you think? I think he will thrive under his fellow Argentine. Eriksen "safer" so if you have potential differentials elsewhere, then fine, but Lamela could be a good one.

Gerrard on most set pieces, though shares corners with Coutinho and free kicks with Hendo/Sturridge/Lambert, but will take most.

Liverpool still a big threat from set pieces, any of Skrtel, Sakho and Lovren up for corners and indirect free kicks can score goals, Gerrard will keep getting assists and scoring pens.
Not sure he's a better option than Sterling though

I like it, slightly different tenor to many of the RMTs. I'd be slightly concerned about having Foster and Wisdom and if 1 or 2 of your £4ms don't play you will be in trouble at times with that defence but it's pretty solid otherwise.

I like it a lot and very similar to mine

Main issue is that neither Giroud nor Dzeko is a totally satisfactory pick which is my current issue (on Dzeko currently).

What happened in the Community Shield then? Did City play a strong side?

They were missing 5 or 6 of the first team.
Arsenal wanted it more, Yaya looked disinterested.

Kompany, Mangala, Zabaleta, Silva, Aguero and maybe Fernandinho all key players missing.

Coupla questions if anyone has any insight:

    1) Is Kaboul a safer bet than Bavies?

    2) Who will Palace's right back be? Mariappa? Williams?
