With just six days remaining until the 2014/15 season gets up and running, City and Arsenal go head-to-head for the Community Shield this afternoon. As expected, both side’s starting line-ups have been heavily influenced by a lack of pre-season action for a number of World Cup stars, though Arsene Wenger hands all three of his main summer signings competitive debuts:

Man City Starting XI: Caballero; Clichy, Boyata, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernando, Toure, Nasri; Jovetic, Dzeko

Arsenal Starting XI: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs; Arteta, Wilshere; Alexis, Ramsey, Cazorla; Sanogo

For City, Stevan Jovetic has the chance to continue the form which has harvested five goals over the summer so far. The Montenegro international is partnered by Edin Dzeko up top and, whilst the likes of Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure also make the XI, Arsenal will be optimistic of taking advantage of an experimental City backline, which sees Gael Clichy fielded as a right-back once again and Aleks Kolarov patrolling the left.

Arsene Wenger names Mathieu Debuchy and Callum Chambers in defence alongside Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Aaron Ramsey owners will be buoyed by what appears to be a move to the attacking midfield three alongside Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere sitting in front of the defence. Up front, Sanchez’ role out wide means Yaya Sanogo gets the nod after his four-goal demolition of Benfica in last week’s Emirates Cup, with Olivier Giroud warming the bench again.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Damn - pages flying.
Was on Sanchez , but Rambo certainly up to early season and showing good form.
    Do feel that Sanchez only needs a game or two and will be there;

With Rambo though allows more flexibilty so thing its a done deal .
With one more spot - ?

The CB"s will be all upfront. I see we taking the lead form a set piece so Fabs could be gold in those 2 games

It's coming together quite nicely now, its just a matter of who to chose as the base options. Tinkering around and I think I am happy. Looks to be value in defenders, especially ones we seem to be overlooking.

Have you done some calculations yet, and if so, who/what did you put for the base points?

I'm thinking about a completely new approach. Basically, you need 2300 points to finish in top 10,000. Therefore 200-ish per playing position. Value should be based on PPG, taking into account absences. Value would be relative to the 200-ish needed, per discretionary spend as before.

Early days thinking about it. 😉

I don't like Mannone - at jeopardy from Pantilimon and Guzan rotates better with Krul.
Wisdom and Targett means your bench is extremely thin.

    Sturridge or Costa ?
I picked Costa initially but Liverpool is continuing their attacking form pretty well..Sturridge could easily do better than Costa despite fixture right ?

What do you think? Too light in the mid?

    Would you rather:

Anyone managed to get Rooney, Costa and Sturridge into their team and end up with so e kind of balance through the rest of the squad?

Really like playing 3 strikers but struggling with picks outside of those 3. Have tried giroud, remy, bojan, dzeko and get a better squad but don't like the look Of any of them in my front 3

Is 3-5-2 the way forward this season?

Which of these sounds the best option?

    a) Toure and Sterling in a 3-5-2

    b) Costa and Siggy in a 3-4-3

Can Chambers nail down a place or is this wishful thinking?

Wishful thinking. Although he will probably cover all four positions at the back so if anyone gets hurt between Debuchy, Kos, Mert, or Gibbs he will probably deputize.
