With just six days remaining until the 2014/15 season gets up and running, City and Arsenal go head-to-head for the Community Shield this afternoon. As expected, both side’s starting line-ups have been heavily influenced by a lack of pre-season action for a number of World Cup stars, though Arsene Wenger hands all three of his main summer signings competitive debuts:

Man City Starting XI: Caballero; Clichy, Boyata, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernando, Toure, Nasri; Jovetic, Dzeko

Arsenal Starting XI: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs; Arteta, Wilshere; Alexis, Ramsey, Cazorla; Sanogo

For City, Stevan Jovetic has the chance to continue the form which has harvested five goals over the summer so far. The Montenegro international is partnered by Edin Dzeko up top and, whilst the likes of Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure also make the XI, Arsenal will be optimistic of taking advantage of an experimental City backline, which sees Gael Clichy fielded as a right-back once again and Aleks Kolarov patrolling the left.

Arsene Wenger names Mathieu Debuchy and Callum Chambers in defence alongside Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Aaron Ramsey owners will be buoyed by what appears to be a move to the attacking midfield three alongside Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere sitting in front of the defence. Up front, Sanchez’ role out wide means Yaya Sanogo gets the nod after his four-goal demolition of Benfica in last week’s Emirates Cup, with Olivier Giroud warming the bench again.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I think I will punt with Chambers. He looks like he will be nailed at least 2-3 GWs until Mertesacker comes back. If he does not start, it's only a 4.5M player not playing.

He can play CB, RB and LB. So any injury in the backline is good for him

Will probably only be one GW mate because AW said Mertesacker trains by himself etc and therefore will probably be back in the team for GW2, especially as it's such a tough game.

well we know for certain he wont play at CB over Kosc/Mert when fit. And I would be surprised if he starts over Debuchy at RB. So I don;t see it as being a good pick imo.

I'm having second thoughts on starting off with double united defence and a chelsea defender. 25m in defence and add 9.5 more for the gks. Looks a bit too much..

    Any opinions?

I always say everyone has to compromise somewhere. With some it's the 3rd striker, others the 4th midfielder, and others their entire defence. You have to make concessions somewhere in your team so if you think a stronger defence is a sensible tactic, then go for it. It's a reasonably easy thing to change organically in the first few gameweeks.

    First RMT of 14/15

    DDG / Begovic
    Terry / Vert / Lovren / Ward / Chambers
    Mata / Eriksen / Puncheon / Arnautovic / Sigurdsson
    Rooney / Costa / Bojan

Lovren is a concern (or at least he is at £5.5m given Liverpool's opening fixtures). I've had a dozen players in that spot, but I'm unsure of who would be a better fit in that price range (£5m ±.5). I'm maxed out on United and Stoke, I'm not convinced of the defensive reliability of sides like Newcastle, QPR, Hull and Southampton.

Elsewhere, Chambers is an obvious punt but I can't shake the feeling that Arsene likes him and will find ways to get him involved. If nothing else he might be an early riser given injury concerns with Mertesacker.

I'll most likely drop either Bojan or Arnautovic once the early results come in, but the favorable matchups are too good to pass on for now.

I think I just lay off on trying to find the 4.0 def and the 4.5 mid bargains, and set out for something a bit more safe. I guess by GW 5-6 people like Davis, Austin and N. Taylor either have shown themselves as good for points, or have been transfered out.

    Bego - Gilks
    Luis - Evans - Ward - N. Taylor - Bruce
    Hazard - Ramsey - Mata - Henderson - Davis
    Rooney - Costa - Austin

Would you downgrade any of these to just-as-decent alternatives, and then free up some money for a GW 2-3 transfer?

Please help. Didn't see the game today but hearing Ramsey is back at it. Really think Sanchez will be awesome though.

    A) Mata and Ramsey

    B) Eriksen and Sanchez

hit rock bottom on last page sorry for re post

Im not normally one who believes you can have your team finished so early but I'm really close i feel

My main concern is Azpi or Luis to pick

    DDG - Gilks
Azpi, Clyne, ferdinand, (hutton, Vaan (or oshea if hes injured)
    Silva, Ramsey, Mata, Sterling (marney)
    Rooney, Costa, Bojan

    What you think?

    Interesting quotes from Van Gaal

"At this moment, we have five No.9s and four No.10s – and we don’t have wingers to give us attacking width"

"Or, I should say, we don't have wingers of the highest level, like Ronaldo or Di Maria or somebody like that. So, I have to play in another way – and you have seen that already. I only buy when I think we need to buy – in the position that is necessary."

Di Maria on his way? I hope so!

I don't think he really wants to play 3412. Just a necessity at the moment given the strengths and weaknesses of the squad.

I don't think LvG would name ADM specifically like that if we were just about to buy him.

      He's off to P$G anyway.

Haha, I mean what's the point of the poll. It's just a toss-up between the two of them. No way is Pellegrini benching Jovetic when Aguero returns, if Jovetic scores well in the first couple of matches. Same applies to Dzeko. Take the extra 0.5m that Jovetic gives you and run.

They are two different players. There are several variables that differentiate them as FPL picks. It's entirely pollworthy imo.

Plenty of data on the Dzeko front but I agree, Jovetic is a bit of an unknown quantity. You also have to factor in the transferability of Dzeko compared with Jovetic. He can easily be transferred to Bony/Ade/Giroud, whereas Jovetic can't. I also think his position is more nailed when Aguero gets back. But on the other hand, I think Jovetic looks a really good player and generally livelier than Dzeko at the moment.

Not keen on Bojan with Siggy in my team. I know they rotate well but I'd only be playing Bojan for 1 out of the first three weeks. 5.5m is too much for one week out of 3.
