With just six days remaining until the 2014/15 season gets up and running, City and Arsenal go head-to-head for the Community Shield this afternoon. As expected, both side’s starting line-ups have been heavily influenced by a lack of pre-season action for a number of World Cup stars, though Arsene Wenger hands all three of his main summer signings competitive debuts:

Man City Starting XI: Caballero; Clichy, Boyata, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernando, Toure, Nasri; Jovetic, Dzeko

Arsenal Starting XI: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs; Arteta, Wilshere; Alexis, Ramsey, Cazorla; Sanogo

For City, Stevan Jovetic has the chance to continue the form which has harvested five goals over the summer so far. The Montenegro international is partnered by Edin Dzeko up top and, whilst the likes of Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure also make the XI, Arsenal will be optimistic of taking advantage of an experimental City backline, which sees Gael Clichy fielded as a right-back once again and Aleks Kolarov patrolling the left.

Arsene Wenger names Mathieu Debuchy and Callum Chambers in defence alongside Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Aaron Ramsey owners will be buoyed by what appears to be a move to the attacking midfield three alongside Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere sitting in front of the defence. Up front, Sanchez’ role out wide means Yaya Sanogo gets the nod after his four-goal demolition of Benfica in last week’s Emirates Cup, with Olivier Giroud warming the bench again.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

If you wanted a defender to rotate with Van Aanholt, and lets say, u didnt want him to be from newcastle, but you did want him to be 4.5mil. who would u go for?

I currently have bojan and costa which combined costs 16m. Do you think that money would be better spent on a different pairing - thinking a combination of mid priced players such as giroud, dzeko, pelle, lambert. I have rooney

Dzeko + Jovetic for 0.5 more 😉 .. though tbh it's tough to find more than one mid price striker. so just stick with Costa Bojan

Bojan has 4 great fixtures out of 5. At £5.5m he's a solid option when he has those kind of fixtures imo. But after the first 2 weeks you can downgrade Costa and upgrade Bojan.

Ok, so I have spent a little time using the RMT tool and have created a team that (largely) maximises the total points over the first 6 weeks. It's a touch dull as a technique, but I'm more than happy to take solid points initially, and pick up on the form players as and when they appear.

The team may not look immediately strong, but the fixtures work out nicely, especially in defence:

    Forster (Krul)

    Evans, Caulker, Yoshida, Taylor, O'Shea

    Mata, Ramsey, Hazard, Erikson, Tadic

    Rooney, Pelle, Bojan

(FYI, RMT currently reckons that team will get 332 points, or about 55.3 per week)

    Thoughts, opinions?

As an aside, according to RMT I could improve the total by switching Bojan for Berahino, but I just didn't want to go there!

the team looks a bit meh.

I think RMT is a phenomenal tool, but i think its use becomes more and more accurate after a few gameweeks.

At this stage, you should make the team your own. Use RMT to hone it later.

Chelsea defenders/keepers are a brilliant example of this. The uncertainty over Mourinho's first XI makes them all appear shite choices, but they could easily be top performers by position.

Exactly, they *could* be, but why would I want to spend 6m+ on a defender who isn't absolutely nailed on!?

I can wait and buy them later once it's clear who the preferred defenders are.

Like this actually, but I wouldn't pick my team based on the RMT tool. Sounds like it will be more useful once the season is underway. I think there are too many top heavy teams out there though and I prefer the balance in this side.

To be fair, I wouldn't either. It is very useful in defence however, the key there is getting good combinations who rotate well. That doesn't always mean the highest scoring player on average.

Caulker is a good example of this, great fixtures when I want him to play and poor when I don't need him. Perfect!

My current dilemma is around the front 8. My options in my mind are:

A: Ramsey + Bojan + Pelle (as above)

        B: Siggy + Dzeko + Pelle

        C; Siggy + Bojan + Costa.

I know alot of people that think Southampton will struggle due to the players they've lost but i think Koeman has filled most of the positions

I think when J'Rod gets back they'll be flying again!

In fairness if Southampton sign a decent CB then they are not far off where they were last season

    Lambert - Pelle
    Lallana - Tadic
    Shaw - Bertrand

If those 3 do well then there is no reason why Southampton cant have another decent season

They need one if not two centrebacks and a new CM if Schneiderlin leaves.

I think they need someone to organise the defence like Lovren did

And yes defo need a Schneiderlin replacement for when he leaves

I still fancy them to finish top 10

Even after we beat them in the opening game 🙂

Pick one essential for each position-

    GK-?
    Def-Evans
    Mid-Hazard
    Str-Rooney

GK / def - no one is essential
      Mid - Hazard
Fwd - Rooney. At least until you-know-who is fit.

When do you think Arsenal's German contingent will be back to playing the full 90 minutes? It looks like GW1 is off the cards but will they be ready for GW2 or after?

I would assume Mert will be back for GW2 based on his position. Poldi, who cares. Ozil, I would guess GW3 at the earliest.

Damn. Have him in my team as the 5th mid to fill in for Siggy's bad fixtures. Any idea who he's in competition with? (Apologies, not well versed on WBA at all).

Gonna be a very tough season to have patience with players.. considerin the number of options(in the same fpl position in the same team too!) and the number of ppl now playing the game i can see a blank or two leading to some serious price drops.

Yeah I was thinking about it too. I hate it. Doesn't make sense really. Like if a midfielder scores 12 goals a season that is phenomenal, but the reality is if he doesn't score for 3-4 games everyone will drop
