The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

The next up is our fixtures specialist Roscola.

Begovic – (Gilks)
Azpilicueta – Evans – van Aanholt – (Wisdom – Bartley)
Mata – Fabregas – Ramsey – Sterling – Sigurdsson
Rooney – Costa – (Zamora)

Roscola admits his team has a major flaw in that it is potentially benchless. He says though that he’s happy for QPR striker Bobby Zamora never to play, because this is a 3-5-2 that reverts to four at the back for first sub. He believes that there are more points available in the budget bracket in defence than further upfield. Sticking with this basic strategy he is looking for advice to find extra funds to invest in his bench. Downgrading Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas to Manchester City’s Samir Nasri is one option he is considering.

    Looking at this team I think the first 11 are pretty strong (bar third striker but he's the best of the cheapest bunch IMO).

    Cahill Ward Debuchy

    Sterling Mata Fabregas Ramsey

    Rooney Bony Fletcher

    The subs are typical low costing mix of the template suggestions

    Mannone / Cameron / El Ahmadi / Wisdom

    You could argue against Bony and put in say Dzeko or Jovetic etc but Bony stats wise is near the top and for 8m with fixtures that aren't that bad I think he should do okay.

    Any problems that people think I've made?

      Fletcher will play second fiddle to Wickham i think
      Bench is weak but first 11 looks good
      Sterling to Erikson and upgrade Fletcher to Wickham or other maybe

        I'm a Sunderland supporter and don't have much worry that Fletcher will get game time. With Wickham not even definitely staying with the club if he doesn't sign his new contract I don't think it's worth losing sterling for him.

        I agree, very tough, and no stand out options at the moment. If Dejan can turn that back line around I might look into getting him when fixtures ease up

          I like Dzeko at 8.5 because it is a straight swap for e.g. Giroud if it doesn't come off. I think Dzeko was removed yesterday because City were not getting control of the ball and were overrun in midfield, more than a poor performance..

      I like your front 7, but not sure about Taylor and Wisdom. As long as Davies plays you will be fine at 3-4-3.

        Aiming for 3-4-3 yes, I am still not sure about that 8.5 mil either, but struggling to find a rotation that works well with my keepers as well. Any suggestions? Thanks for the feedback.

    After a couple of drafts I think settled on a cheap defence and expensive midfield and strike force.
    Due to doubts over shaw and davies. What you guys think, is it worth having mata and cheap defender or shaw and cheap midfielder.

      Defense is rather weak, but that could be your way to go
      Maybe drop one of Sanchez/Lamela/Jovetic to bring in Evans (rather than Shaw)?

      That is a very risky defence! I'll be very interested to see how many of them appear this weekend. Midfield and front line looks solid, though I'm not a huge fan of Jovetic. Couldn't you shoehorn in DDG and downgrade Jovetic?

        Was planning on keep Jovetic for a couple of weeks then upgrading to kun by downgrading mata. Maybe also selling sanchez for Ozil to get RVP depending on how things go.

    Folks, maybe a stupid one...

    When you use your wildcard, does it mean that you can use unlimited transfers only once OR you can buy and sell players as many times as you want before the next GW (same as we do now)?

    Mata Fab Eriksen Ramsey (Albr)

    Rooney (c) Costa Nugent

    Not totally convinced yet by Costa yet. Could downgrade him to the likes of Bony or any other 8.5m fwd and use the money to bring in Cahill. Thoughts?

      My team has Sanchez, Hazard and Gerrard (same price as Mata).

      I've got:

      Foster (Krul)
      Gibbs/Shaw/Pocognoli (Trippier) (Ward)
      Gerrard/Hazard/Sanchez/Siggy (Puncheon)
      Nugent/Rooney/Pelle

      Puncheon is an easy downgrade to Albrighton if I need the spare cash. I plan on bringing in Baines from week 7/8 when Everton's fixtures get a lot easier. If Shaw doesn't start/perform he's being swapped for Jones/Evans, likewise Gibbs for Debuchy or Chambers.

    -3x4.0 defenders is poor i know
    -Happy for Debuchy to later become a 4.5 and use money to upgrade defence, happy to wait and see if Collins/Marriappa or Stoke 4.5 nail a spot down. Looks like Marriapa now prob going to start
    - Moore could be Bruce
    -Marney could be Isgrove

    Any thoughts welcome

      Decent looking team! For me, 8.5 for Sterling is too much, and LIVs fixtures aren't great.. I would downgrade him to a 6.5-6.0 and spend the rest of the money in defence/upgrade Austin.

      Not bad at all. Bench may be a bit borderline with both Bruce & Wisdom, but you should be able to cover 3 at the back nearly all the time.
