Welcome to our annual attempt to pick the best and worst options in the Fantasy Premier League game and assess how the forthcoming Premier League season will shape up.

As usual many of  our last season predictions proved to be terrible.

Among the worst of our predictions was Mark’s assertion that Andreas Weimann would be the best differential and highest scoring budget forward in FPL and Paul’s belief that Roberto Soldado would finish the year as top Premier League goal scorer.

My forecast that Kolo Toure would be the best budget defender and Crystal Palace would be relegated proved equally embarrassing.

Applebonkers was also left with egg on his face by labelling Hull defender Curtis Davies as the worst signing of 2013/14, while Granville’s optimism that Iago Aspas would be the best differential in FPL was another of our top clangers.

There were some predictions we nailed, though. Evs correctly reckoned Southampton would overachieve, while Fulham would falter. Andy and Mark can also feel pleased for themselves for correctly naming Seamus Coleman as the best budget defender in FPL last season.

Hopefully we shall all do better with this series of predictions for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

Am I missing something with Joel Ward.. he seems to be in 90% of the scout picks budget defender choice. 3 Assists all of last season?

If you look at his stats under Pullis they are pretty damned good for someone that price who is guaranteed to start.

However, rumours that Pullis may be leaving could put a spanner in the works.

      It's all very odd

It seems like it's over transfer budget

From what I can gather the Palace chairman, for obvious reasons, doesn't want him to go

Which 4.5 out of these? (with fixtures I will probably play them)

    A. Chester (qpr avl new CPL)
    B. Van Aanholt (wba qpr bur STO)
    C. Ferdinand (HUL SUN STO whm)
    D. Chambers (CPL) and transfer out for whoever looks good after that

    Thanks 🙂

      A. Good fixtures, Europe may become a factor
      B. Decent fixtures
      C. Best fixtures but may be rotated
      D. Personally dont like this option

Between A & B for me, was hoping Hull got knocked out and Chester was straight in

I like B as it saves you a transfer and I am expecting Sunderland to be strong this season.

So, does this make Sanchez and Giroud better options for GW1?

Bar Steward. Need a replacement for Ward. 5m or under. Already got Rio and Chester. I'm thinking
    Gardos
    Clyne

      Not a bad shout

but no way would I invest in that defence under Moyes

Moyes' Everton were horrible for conceeding late goals

So if Pulis goes that's probably Ward et al off the short list.

Remind me again, which defenders are still desirable?
