A new beginning. On the eve of a new campaign, two grumpy middle-aged has-beens gather in a studio to recall the summer’s feast of football and look ahead to another Fantasy season, full of hope.

There’s no frills. No live video cast. No special guests. Just Granville and I, stripped back and almost unplugged.

Don’t let that put you off, though. Even with our limited powers we at least attempt to cut through the issues currently rattling around in the minds of Fantasy managers.

We assess the Old Trafford revolution, the world without Suarez and the merits of the three-man strike force. We slice through the current transfer trends and weigh up matters such as the Sigurdsson/Bojan rotation, Fagregas vs Hazard and the Chelsea back four conundrum. We also manage to warm up with a nice little argument about the Alexis Sanchez bandwagon – the traditional pre-season barney.

    Clyne and Austin?
    Or Debuchy and Bojan?
    Any other suggestions? I already have two 4.5 and a 4 DEF and don't want to go too cheap in DEF.

      You seem to be playing an ambitious 4-4-3 formation. I like the idea but feel they will limit you to 11 players.

    Never planning to use Zamora, I'm a bench fodder kind of guy and literally nobody else who plays ever for that cash I think!

      I was thinking about Chelsea defender and two cheap defenders alongside, but I am still not sure ... right now I am with Debuchy - Jones - PVA, but left back in Spurs team looks pretty good (Rose/Davies) 😀

      Nice team. I'd go Kaboul--->Chester, Zamora--->sanogo(or playable 5.0). It would give more flexibility should you need a bench player and hull have nice fixtures.

    Not having Costa is a pain in the ass 😕 as much argument for having him as there is in avoiding him imo. Ultimately playing it safe with Hazard due to his proven record in the PL.

    I know Costa had a great season in La Liga but what about:

    1) Mourinho doesn't really play heavy attacking football with Chelsea, the goals are generally spread out over the front 4 over the season. Chelsea under Mourinho haven't even come close to a TGS award since 2006/07 with Drogba on a mere 20 goals. Under Scolari/ Ancelloti they played very attacking football and managed the TGS but under Mourinho its very much a result-based style rather than goal-based.
    2) Costa always has that threat of spitting or snot-rocketing on someone, or the occasional stupid YC one pointers when you've captained him.
    3) Not a great (c) option imo. For 10.5 I want a (c) option and I think Sturridge and Rooney offer that more than Costa.
    4) As the only striker up front I think he could be marked out of the game. Granted you could say this about any of the Chelsea attacking line, but Costa in particular could suffer from this as the lone forward.

      Won't Sturridge be marked out the game then? Lambert won't play that many games imo.

      I don't feel the same way about the third point. I'm planning on captaining him for GW 1 & 2 ahead of Rooney.

      he's a flat track bully playing against leicester and burnley in the first 2 GW's, not to mention the amazing supporting cast he has around him AND his great pre-season form. I cant see the downside...

      I think you're trying too hard to convince yourself that he won't do well. He is a talented finisher being supplied by some of the best midfield chance creators in the world. He will score goals.

        Not at all I think he'll hit about 16-18 goals.

        I just don't think he'll hit the 20's based on Mourinho's past history and playing style with Chelsea forwards. From La Liga to the PL is a big jump in style also.

        All I'm saying is given the choice between him and Hazard I think Eden is the most sensible option. Proven, cheaper and gets more points for goals and CS points (which Chelsea will rack up), on penalties as well.

    So after looking up baird he has started almost all preseason games as a holding midfielder due to "lack of options." Since West Brom haven't signed anyone in that position he could very well start more games than wisdom in the beginning of the season...

    Good grief.

    I have the ULTIMATE plan to take advantage of strong fixtures.

    Triple up on Chelsea attack until GW 2 is over.

    After GW 2, use 2 free transfers to do Fabregas + Costa to Cabella (vs CPL) & RVP (vs 3 promoted teams in 3 weeks)!

    Now I pray nobody suffers an injury for the first 2 weeks o.O

        Tbh I only realised this after my team was set, so this is just a bonus!

        But just imagine IF Chelsea explode in first 2 weeks & then RVP stays fit and is ready for GW 3 onwards. Hopefully CPL will also be a mess so Cabella & Newcastle can rip them a new one.

      Dont worry Mourinho is still a defensive coach at the end of the day... Remember couple games in pre season we went up by 1 goal and you could see him instructing a "back 5", if an away fixture he will still park the bus and play very discipline football. Not like the Ancellotti days atttack attack attack
