Sunday presents two further Premier League encounters with a variety of Fantasy heavy-hitters on show.

Events begin at Anfield, with Liverpool starting life without Luis Suarez with an encounter against a Southampton side ravaged by a summer exodus. It’s a fascinating scenario that’s set to feature an-all start case of assets, including Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling – players burdened by big Fantasy ownership and expectation. The Saints, meanwhile, arrive on Merseyside looking to gel quickly after a flurry of new arrivals under the guidance of new boss, Ronald Koeman.

The day concludes at St James’ Park, as Newcastle host champions City. Manuel Pellegrini will likely field a much-changed side to the XI that suffered a Community Shield reverse against Arsenal. Even so, Fantasy investment in the City ranks has been tempered, with Yaya Toure remaining the top target, finding his way into 20% of Fantasy Premier League squads. Like Southampton, Newcastle present us with an array of new signings to assess, making Sunday a vital opportunity to scout talent.

          Fernando will be a quality signing for City throughout the year. Really good at shielding the back 4 which allows Yaya to do his thing.

          Watching the first round of games reminds me of the need to focus on proven premier league quality when form isn’t yet established. Look at where the goals are coming from – Rooney, Sturridge, Silva, Ramsey, Sterling. Even Siggurdson wasn’t really a punt, those of us not knew to this game well remember the way he scored goals from midfield when he was first choice at Swansea. The mistake is to think pre-season form and rhetoric means a players prospects are transformed – I can’t see why anyone would pick Lamela over Eriksen for example, there’s no evidence to back it up at all. Watching Silva playing now I regret not picking him. Not sure what Fabregas will do but Silva looks very good.
