Raheem Sterling grabs a goal and assist as Liverpool edge past Southampton. Daniel Sturridge is also amongst the goals as Nathaniel Clyne slams home the visitors’ consolation. Elsewhere, goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero ensure champions City are off to a winning start with a 2-0 triumph at Newcastle.

Sterling the Star for Reds
A goal and assist from the youngster helped Liverpool to a narrow win over Southampton in the first game of the post-Luis Suarez era. Fielded on the left of a 4-2-3-1 formation, Sterling was second only to Aaron Ramsey for midfield ownership as the season got underway and, like the Welshman, has instantly found his form – with the maximum bonus also accrued, few will be deterred by back-to-back road trips to City and Spurs as new owners look set to come flooding in. A price rise over the week looks assured as Fantasy managers take advantage of the wide man’s current 8.5 price tag.

Sturridge the Match-Winner for Liverpool
Somewhat overshadowed by Sterling’s 13-point haul, the forward nonetheless rewarded his 30% of Fantasy Premier League owners with the Merseysiders’ second in a 2-1 triumph. While the Sterling bandwagon builds momentum, it’s debatable whether Sturridge’s non-owners will be swayed by those upcoming visits to the Etihad and White Hart Lane, with many penciling him in for Gameweek 4 as the schedule starts to smile a little more kindly.

Clyne Strike Offers Hope for Saints
The 5.0-priced right-back leapt onto Fantasy radars with the visitors’ consolation at Anfield. Many expected Ronald Koeman’s side to be on a hiding to nothing after many of last year’s key players left over the summer but Southampton’s performance certainly suggests they could be worthy of our consideration ahead of a very kind run of fixtures. New playmaker Dusan Tadic earned a smart assist for Clyne’s strike, and with midfielder James Ward-Prowse (5.0) handed a start on the right of the front three, there’s reason for Fantasy optimism amongst the St Mary’s outfit aghead of a schedule which affords six kind home games (WBA, NEW, QPR, SUN, STO, LEI) and trips to West Ham, Swansea and Hull in the next 10.

Aguero Seals it for City
Manuel Pellegrini started with Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko up front at Newcastle but both were overshadowed by the fit-again Argentine in City’s 2-0 win. Emerging from the bench on 83 minutes, Aguero needed just seven minutes to find the net and remind us just how devastating a Fantasy force he can be.

With another week until the champions’ next league match against Liverpool, there’s every chance Aguero’s match sharpness will be up to scratch, allowing Pellegrini to start the diminutive frontman. His return immediately places concerns over Jovetic’s security of pitch time, though the Montenegro international turned in an impressive shift, with five attempts on goal and a trio of chances created for his team-mates at St James’ Park. With the likes of Sturridge, Wayne Rooney and Diego Costa so highly owned, Aguero looks a deadly differential in the premium forwards category and currently sits in just 4% of teams.

Silva Off the Mark
The City playmaker underlined the strength of options in the premium midfield bracket by grabbing the opener on Tyneside. Following strikes from Ramsey and Sterling, the Spaniard’s goal also brought him onto radars and offers hope that he could finally be set to overshadow the highly priced Yaya Toure in the City midfield. Like Aguero, Silva is also something of a differential (9%) but many will be understandably cautious here – we’ve no doubts over either’s potential but, as we’ve seen on all too many occasions in the past, whether the pair can string together a run of starts without injury is a little more than questionable.

Might get lucky this week with No Bojan price drop

I was expecting a lot of Bojan->Weimann with those home games for Villa but looks like people have got bigger fishes to fry

Rover made a great point ( 😯 ) but it got lost at the end of a page. 😛

Those thinking of selling Bojan... he's blanked once. You knew he wasn't a big hitter. He costs £5.5m. He benefits the rest of your team.

You thought he was a good pick a few days ago... so what's changed?! 😆

Fair play to those who don't like him. But if you DID, why don't you now?! Relax! 😛

Bojan was never there to get me loads of points. But he made room for the Rooneys, Ramseys etc.

I was always avoiding the Bojan bandwagon, but late on Friday I jumped on board. While he didn't really give a return this week, no one at that price range will. In the next 9 fixtures, Stoke face only one of the 'Top 7'. In that time I would think Bojan would be likely to outscore both Berahino and Weimann, so I'm happy to stick with him for a few more weeks at least.

Looks like I'll be holding onto Jovetic for a week.

He'll probably get 20 mins against Liverpool while Aguero gets his 70 min run out. Probably most dangerous when he's subbed on anyway. Then its bye bye Stevan 😕

      I think to be realistic:

De Gea is fine - has some good fixtures, clean sheets to follow.
      Gilks - well, 4m.
Terry - there will be goals.
Chambers - Wenger talking him up in the press, hold if you have depth in bench.
Caulker - fixtures look good, hold.
Wisdom - looks nailed on and fixtures are ok, hold.
      Bruce - replace!

Thinking outside the box, a three-way rotation of Hull/West Brom/Burnley looks great for 12.5M; Get Chester in for Chambers and Duff in Bruce in what ever order makes sense maybe?

Fellaini was down to Moyes. Shaw is injured and Herrera has looked more than competent in midfield so far - we completely lost our shape when he came off.

So what utter nonsense are you spurting out?

Who was down to Moyes? Fergie

The way Moyes was treated was pretty disgusting.

£120m is a lot to spend, selling Evra and just having fat Shaw LB is a awful move. Herrera is not the tough midfielder you needed.

Mata hasn't worked out yet either.

Shaw isn't fat. Don't be ridiculous. He is a LB learning to play as a LWB and it involves a lot more running, he is still a teenager and mightn't have the natural fitness yet to immediately adjust to the role.

Tactically Rodgers got it all wrong today, you can't start Lucas and Gerrard together because there is a complete lack of mobility in midfield and the whole performance suffers. I'd expect us to be better next week with Moreno starting instead of that heap of rubbish they call Glen Johnson and Allen/Can to replace the completely ineffective Lucas. We should also up our game because its City I would imagine.

Overall we looked nervous yesterday and the crowd were too, but if we can get the free flowing attacking football going like we did in the Dortmund game I reckon we will be OK. We now have enough depth to cope with the additional CL games also. Realistically I think 3rd is the highest we can finish though.

I don't really see a reason to change it. Strong looking strike-force and 1.5 free to jump on any emerging bandwagons as and when. Having two free transfers in the bank for next week is always useful should you need to juggle some players.
