I'm satisfied with Pieters so far, but he is hardly worth a hit.
There are viable 4.5 options out there, but they need to be part of a rotation.

This is why people shouldn't gloat before the GW is over. There were some big points for Jovetic owners.

He smashed the bonus points as well. Surely he has to start against Stoke next week.

They should not do any standings updates before the gw is over. I went from 600 to 3.5k from Saturday night to now.
        Of course, I wasn't gloating...

Its easy to get a bit excited about rank but early on its an even worse fallacy. A few points can cause a serious drop or rise in ranking. Personally I think rank is meaningless till at least GW5.

          1. the cromulent one
            12 years, 2 months ago

Very true. I'm just excited to not have to start climbing back from a rank of over 1m like the last few seasons.

Jovetic certainly a risk when Dzeko and Negredo back

    Aguero however should play often

That's what Acqua must've said to himself when he sold Jovetic last week. 🙂

In seriousness Jovetic is a very good pick for now.

    2. ronmadpirlo
      12 years, 2 months ago

Negredo still out for a while, Aguero will play often if/when fit but do not expect him to start vs Stoke. 45 mins could be enough for a goal though but don't expect a hatty.

It helps that the price change sides aren't working. It presents a unique opportunity for us FPL managers to focus on who we get without being influenced too much by price changes.

To those of you who think Di Maria will play as a wing back, earlier in pre-season LVG said he can't play 4-3-3 because he doesn't have wingers of the highest quality like Ronaldo or Di Maria. He mentioned Di Maria specifically and now he has him people are thinking he will play him a wingback? What a waste that would be. Di Maria will play as a winger or in the hole. Remember at Az, Bayern and Barca LVG played a 4-3-3. He only played 3-5-3 at the WC with Holland due to the limitations of that squad.

The first two games were not good for United and clearly the midfield and defence are having a lot of trouble adjusting, particularly in the early phase of build up play where too often one of the CBs just ends up booting it. Most of the players seem so uncomfortable playing in it and I think LVG see's Di Maria as the player to allow him to play his favourite formation and allow the players to fill roles they're more familiar with.

    1. theloveburglar
      12 years, 2 months ago

      agreed well said

    2. Setting the Toney

      Expect a formation change to either a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1

      1. Polaris - The Mortal Coil
        12 years, 2 months ago

Or keep the same system and play him in the front three?

        1. Setting the Toney
          12 years, 2 months ago

Maybe but I'd think if we don't buy another CB then we cant maintain this system for much longer, its clearly not working.

          1. Polaris - The Mortal Coil
            12 years, 2 months ago

May be right, although Rojo gives us more balance, as a genuine left sided defender.

I've already said - I expect di Maria to take up the Robben role (free role off the front)
But I also think a formation switch is the next most likely scenario.

      2. In Bale We Trust
        12 years, 2 months ago

Yeah one's just a slightly different variation of the other, but this is what I certainly expect to see.

    3. Polaris - The Mortal Coil
      12 years, 2 months ago

Oh for sure, we haven't spent £60M on him to waste him at WB. His attacking attributes are far better utilised in the final third.

    4. Not Irish

      It's ridiculous innit.

On a side note he said it's tough signing players like Vidal and Messi yesterday.

Vidal signing imminent then. Watch this space.

      1. In Bale We Trust
        12 years, 2 months ago

When Conte resigned I really thought that was the Vidal deal done. Alas, now I have completely given up hope and would settle for any player who is in anyway a competent central midfield player.

      ------Carrick-- Herrara--Mata
      Rooney-----RVP-------Di Maria

    6. Piggs Boson
      12 years, 2 months ago

I don't think he likes Rooney wide, but I guess it could be this:
      http://lineupbuilder.com/?sk=47by1

Doubt he'd rotate Rooney & RVP...

      1. In Bale We Trust
        12 years, 2 months ago

Yes he said he prefers Rooney as a 9 or a 10, but that Rooney told him he can play on the wing if he wants him to. I'm interested to see how he handles the Rooney jigsaw piece, but LVG will just do what he thinks is best, He won't have qualms about dropping RVP, Rooney, Mata or whoever.

    7. Goodfella
      12 years, 2 months ago

He's a winger, who's best season (last season) for Real came when he played in the midfield three behind Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale.

If Man Utd play 4-3-3, one of Rooney and Van Persie has to be dropped, unless Van Gaal plays Rooney on the left, or decides to rip up the copy book again and switch to 4-4-2.

    8. MITHRRANDIRR
      12 years, 2 months ago

Di Maria played as a central midfielder during his best season at RM. Not a passing, controlling one but a ball winning, dribbling and starting quick counter attacks. As a winger he has always blown hot and cold.

      1. Not Irish
        12 years, 2 months ago

Mata the footballer, no. But then neither does Mourinho. 😀

Nice chap though. Lovely beard. Infectious smile.

Apparently not. Although it might be worth taking with a pinch of salt, as he also said a page or two back, that Mata doesn't belong anywhere near a top club......

Despite winning Player of the Year in 2/2 of his years at Chelsea. Oh yeah, he also won the Champions League in one of those years, lol.

3rd and 6th respectively. So what are you laughing at?

As I said before, he's the Spanish Van der Vaart.

Also that was one of the flukiest cup runs I've ever seen. And Mata did very little. Even missed his penalty in the Final shootout.

So they won the CL, but they weren't a top team?

Never in a million years would they have won the PL. So no.

Tend to find myself agreeing with a lot of the points you make on here usually. But your username is looking rather fitting right now.

That's fine. But cup runs are crap shoots while leagues are the true tests of a team's quality. Don't see what's so controversial about that in all honesty.

Look, I've gone on record here calling Mata an 'overrated little oompa loompa,' but the reality is that United have no viable alternatives. That squad is old and slow in the attack and young and naive in the back. An absolute dumpster fire.

If he plays he will get goals and will get assists. Will be difficult to drop IMO

Fabregas (C) this week, anyone object?

At Everton is a fixture that Chelsea lost last year. I know that Everton have given up 4 goals already, but I can't see them crumbling again. Will be a tight game.
That said, none of my players seem like good captain choices...

Is clichy nailed ? kolarov competing on left or right side ?

A comparison between Dzeko and Jovetic is quite telling...

With no other transfers pressing, this might be the one I make... although I find it a bit sideways... Dzeko could easily be the one to score next week v Stoke... 😕

Don't fancy doubling up on Swansea (Bony) or Spurs (Ade) either... although perhaps those guys are better long term options and more secure than Jovetic...

Can't get Aguero without taking a hit either...

    Ugh.

If he is confirmed fit to play, that is my intention...

Pelle has said it's not much of an injury, but we'll see...

Yeah I think he'll play... but the fact remains I have to do something cos I'm not willing to waste a FT...

It's a tricky one man. Very hard to call. Glad I have Jove for now. Just gotta decide whether to give him the armband or not 😉

Hey do u think Jove + Fab -> Aguero + JWP a bad idea ? Although , dont fix what aint broken keeps running in my ears.

      1. Zep
        12 years, 2 months ago

I think it's a risk, you're selling two on form players... Aguero could light it up, but he might only play 30mins next week, and even when he starts getting 80-90mins, there is no guarantee he won't get injured again...

        1. Stats King-@football2space
          12 years, 2 months ago

Certainly food for thought. Don't wanna waste my FT as I hv 2. May as well look to change my cheapie or something.

    4. the cromulent one

Why not keep the transfer and get Aguero the week after, presumably without the hit.

      1. Zep
        12 years, 2 months ago

I already have 2FTs, I'm definitely not wasting one...

Aguero. Get him in or wait ??

The thing ive learned last season is not to jump on aguerowagon too early

.Ofcourse he's a worldclass player who teases us with goals from sub apps when he returns

He's expensive and we all make a plan and gets him in by making a sacrifice in another area only to get his hammy injured again.Id wait until he completes a full game Anyone agree ??

    1. Transient Anus
      12 years, 2 months ago

The thing I learned early last season was to get him early. Can be very profitable. If Jovetic hadn't cleaned up for me this week I'd be getting him straight in for a hit

I'm so glad Jovetic has me content ATM. Bringing Kun in before an international break would've been a nightmare.

What if u got 2 FT , then wud u think abt getting Aguero in place of Jove.

Okay so Bojan survived the drop and allow me to think

    0.5m ITB 1 FT
    a) Bojan -> Naismith
    b) Bojan -> 6m options (Jelavic, Wickham)
    c) Bojan Cahill -> PVA + Jovetic
    d) Bojan Cahill -> Bruce + 8.5m options (Adebayor, Bony)

I ended up doing C but had Cahill instead of Terry. I went for Dumnet as couldn't stretch to PVA or Colo who are both good options
