Our Friday evening members regular, analysing the armband options in the Gameweek ahead, arrives once again. We continue with a three-part approach, taking in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Gameweek poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

The Captain Poll

For the first time this term, the Captain Poll is less conclusive as four teams are represented in the top five places. Wayne Rooney takes top spot for the second time in three Gameweeks – despite last week’s blank at Sunderland, the United man has received over 36% of the votes cast as Louis van Gaal’s side make their way to promoted Burnley. Team-mate Juan Mata earns just over 3% of votes by comparison, though he has scored seven times in his last eight league appearances.

City pair Stevan Jovetic and Sergio Aguero are also prevalent in our armband thoughts. After bagging a brace against Liverpool – and, crucially, starting both matches so far – Jovetic is narrowly ahead of the Argentine by 14% to 10%. Aguero’s two goals in just 31 minutes off the bench sums up his points potential, though, and there’s a feeling he could run riot against Stoke if let off the leash from the first whistle. Given how protective Manuel Pellegrini has been so far, there’s no doubt Aguero is the riskier of the two but he certainly has the ability to deliver if afforded the pitch time by his manager.

Aaron Ramsey splits the City pair in third spot. Suspended for Arsenal’s midweek Champions League win over Besiktas, he’ll be fully refreshed as the Gunners roll up to Leicester on Sunday and is looking to get on the scoresheet for the third successive Gameweek.

Gylfi Sigurdsson sits fifth in the Poll after picking up the points in both his appearances so far. With a home clash against West Brom on the horizon, Garry Monk’s side will be looking to the playmaker to lead them to a third successive win – Sigurdsson has convinced 7% of backers to hand him the armband against the Baggies.

With so much uncertainty surrounding Diego Costa’s minutes this weekend, few look likely to opt for a Chelsea player as their Gameweek 3 captain – Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard have been selected by 2% and 1% respectively. Similarly, faith in Tottenham and Liverpool’s attackers seems limited as the pair go head-to-head at the Lane – Erik Lamela leads the way from our contenders with 1% of votes, suggesting the Argentine, along with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling, could be a real left-field armband pick this weekend if Sunday’s encounter can serve up the goals.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Want to captain Jovetic but will captain Rooney for damage limitation in the event of a fail.

    RMT:

    GK: Krul (Given)

DF: Dummett - PVA - Amat - (Rose, Wisdom)

MF: Fabregas, De Jong, Ramsey, Siggy (vc), Gerrard.

    FW: Rooney (c), Jovetic (Berahino)

5.3 ITB -> Jovetic to Sturridge next week and will still have 1.9 to improve with.

Any thoughts/serious problems I might come across?

    Tomorrows team......

    Lloris
    Cahill, Debuchy, Hutton
    Fab, Ramsey, Silva, Siggy, Larsson
    Rooney, Aguero

The question is who to captain?

Aguero for a differential, Rooney to keep up with the Jones', Ramsey who will undoubtably score or a serious punt on Silva.

    Any help gratefully received.

We've yet to see him with Aguero so I'm gonna say with Dzeko since he hogs all the points.

City score more goals with Aguero in the side.

Plus Aguero and Jovetic are miles better than Dzeko.

      So Aguero.

      But a weird question really.

      1. Bubz
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 11 months ago

Not that weird, it makes a huge difference to the side either way, wondering if Jovetic benefits from Aguero playing or loses out as it might be Aguero getting on the end of everything instead of Jov. Dzeko is good at holding the ball up which is useful for Jov.

          True, it's not.

I think this might have some influence on current noises emanating from Chelsea.
They simply cannot afford for him to get injured on Spain duty...

He could easily play, score, and then 'limp' off.

Dzeko can be very frustrating to own in fantasy football. Jovetic has had a great pre-season. But more than that any time he came on last year he looked like scoring. He isn't afraid to take a shot and is probably more creative than Dzeko. At the beginning of last season, a lot of City supporters said that Jovetic was the player they wanted to see most out of all the new signings. Unfortunately injuries ruined his first season but he seems to be back to his best and for that reason he is worth picking above Dzeko in my opinion.

                Posted that fifteen days ok.

They picked Siggy from the start. I brought in Costa for them last week. But some of the picks are brutal and rather than taking points hits I think the wc could be necessary.

Transfers made I now have THE template midfield:

    Begovic (Myhill)
    Clyne Dummett Davies (Bruce) (Cameron)
    Sigurdsson Mata Ramsey Fábregas Sterling
    Rooney Jovetic (Anichebe)

And yes he's passed fit and will upset either Aguero or Jovetic owners. Also he proved time and time again that he's at his best from the bench for 30mins in a scenerio, where Mancini unexpectedly wont start him vs a physical stoke side home..

I think Sanchez and Dzeko will be top performers this GW. I linke my arsenal double up. Expecting explosion after cl-relief

  26. JT's Dog
    11 years, 11 months ago

    So here is my thinking
Costa might not start and only get few minutes
Costa may start and injury flails up and comes off
Costa may start and Everton play tight and keep him out
Chelsea may do an Everton and sacrifice Costa chance of goals to allow one of the tiny players to score.

    Jovetic for a hit
One assist and I could get back my hit or near enough

I can't see reason not to

    Caulker, Clyne, Terry
    Fab, Rambo, Siggy, Hendo
    Costa, Roopig, Sturridge

    Hutton, Marney, Wisdom

I am tempted for a -4 to do

Terry > 6m def or less OR caulker > 4.5m def
    Sturridge > Aguero

    This a bad idea?
