After a two-week hiatus, our Friday evening analysis of the armband options in the Gameweek ahead comes around again. Our three-part approach takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Captain Poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

Captain Poll

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea’s Diego Costa leads the way after notching four times in his first three appearances. The Spain international once again heads into the weekend with hamstring doubts hanging over his pitch time but, after recovering from a similar problem to bag a brace at Goodison in Gameweek 3, he has earned the nod from over 29% of Fantasy managers so far as Jose Mourinho’s side welcome Swansea to the Bridge.

Despite scoring just twice in their first three matches under Louis van Gaal, United are still heavily backed for their home encounter against QPR. Radamel Falcao and Wayne Rooney sit second and fourth respectively in the Captain Poll and the Colombian’s previous ability to settle quickly in his new surrounds have persuaded 15% to select him compared to Rooney’s 13%. Harry Redknapp’s side have shipped four goals in their only road trip to date but a switch from 3-5-3 to 4-4-1-1 earned the R’s their first clean sheet of the campaign last time around.

Liverpool’s attackers are also high in our collective estimations. Raheem Sterling is the favoured option from Brendan Rodgers’ side – after scoring in two of his first three appearances, the youngster has picked up over 13% of your votes for a plum home clash with Aston Villa. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined for the Merseysiders, Mario Balotelli could be a real differential for this one, bearing in mind he’s owned by less than 6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

In spite of a testing clash with City at the Emirates, Arsenal new boy Danny Welbeck remains on the radar. A double for England against Switzerland has certainly had an impact – 3.55% of Fantasy managers fancy handing him the armband, more than either Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard for Chelsea’s encounter with Swansea.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    REPOST FROM BOTTOM OF PAGE
    Hows this for a WC team ?
    Begovic
    Moreno, Ivan, Baines, Clyne
    Gerrard, Sterling (C), Fabs, Zaha
    Costa, Naismith

    MCCarty, Welbeck, Siggy, N.Taylor
    0.9m in the bank

    I'm good to go 🙂

    1. NATSTER
      12 years, 1 month ago

      Wow.. Both Gerrard and Sterling.

      That might be a good differential.

      What's your plan with Naismith on Gw 6-7 when he will play liv and mun?

      Hard to upgrade as you already have Welbeck too.

      1. SierraDelta
        12 years, 1 month ago

        My plan is to bench Naismith & Play Welbeck or if he still scoring he stays. Ulloa an option to

    2. Jafalad

    Suggestion on this WC team please.

    Krul / McCarthy
    Ivan / Moreno / Bertrand / Naylor / Moore
    Siggy / Sterling / Fabs / Ramsey / Boyd
    Costa / Rooney / Naismith

    2.5m ITB .. What should i do to improve this?

    A: Naismith -> Welbeck
    B: Rooney -> Falcao
    C: Rooney -> Aguero … but i will have no United
    D: Ramsey + Rooney -> ADM + Balotelli
    E: Else?

    1. Aaron Ramessi - Straya
      12 years, 1 month ago

      Krul ---> Begovic/Forster
      Rooney ---> Aguero

      imo

        this

      2. NATSTER
        12 years, 1 month ago

        Thanks.

        Is Aguero fully fit?
        He's a fixture proof, but ars and CHE on the next two games made me doubt.
        Aguero + Costa are prolific, but so injury prone. I will probably live in yellow world. 🙂

        GK upgrade is on my mind, but really not sure if it's better to spend 0.5m elsewhere. So, I tend to consider it the last place to spend. I will check how it is.

        1. Aaron Ramessi - Straya
          12 years, 1 month ago

          I think he is...90 minutes v Stoke and 80 odd for argies and scored in that game...yeah I understand, but I cant see anywhere better to use it...and youd still have 0.4 ITB! 🙂

      Krul--->Forster/Begovic
      Bertrand--->Janmaat

      The rest looks good, and doesn't need to be changed. Unless you want to punt on Falcao.

        PVA over Naylor is a decent one as well.

        PVA - attacking threat
        Naylor - possible cleansheats with their fixtures(they're not as stable at the back as they seemt o be though)

        Up to you.

        1. NATSTER
          12 years, 1 month ago

          Thanks very much. I did consider PvA too.

          The reason I went with Naylor is mainly because he rotates with the rest of my DF better, especially on Gw 13-15.

    I can get any defender currently got Ivan and Clyne!

    Is Shawcross a good pick?

    Cheeky captain punt on Tadic? Southampton will probably smash us! He is currently my VC. Costa captain

      Southampton have scored 9 Goals against them in the past 4 games! Tadic + Pelle could work wonders this GW.

    Final question.

    Costa or Balo for the C.

    Or perhaps even a chelsea mid like Fabs if Costa isn't actually gonna start.

    I haven’t heard Manquillo’s name being mentioned he is the cheapest way to get into Liverpool’s defense.

      Downgrade Mannone to a 4.0 and upgrade Haidara to PVA or Chester.

      I'm not a fan of your defence but the rest looks good.

        haidara is nailed. dummet is bench. haidara was the starter after santon got injured but missed the 1st gw w slight knock on bench. played last gw.
        still no haidara? vito is good for rotation no?
