Angel di Maria steers United to their first win of the season with a goal and assist against QPR. Wayne Rooney and Ander Herrera mirror the Argentine’s returns, while Juan Mata is also on the scoresheet in an emphatic 4-0 demolition.

Di Maria Dazzles on Home Bow
Handed a berth on the left of a midfield diamond, the Argentine leapt to Fantasy managers’ attention with a pivotal role in yesterday’s rout. After somewhat fortuitously opening the scoring with a free-kick, Di Maria teed up Juan Mata for the hosts’ fourth and turned in a performance that is set to get the bandwagon rolling ahead of next week’s trip to Leicester. Indeed, with home matches against West Ham and Everton allied with a trip to West Brom in the next four, some may even be contemplating a shift to 3-5-2 in order to accommodate the Argentine in their starting line-ups.

Rooney Back in the Points
While Robin van Persie blanked once again, the England star replicated Di Maria with a goal and assist against the R’s. Handed a role alongside the Dutchman, Rooney certainly staked a claim to continue in the advanced role – certainly, on current form, there’d be no real surprise if Van Persie dropped out to accommodate Radamel Falcao.

Nonetheless, Van Gaal’s decision to sub off Juan Mata, despite the Spaniard netting for the second time this term, resulted in a change of position for Rooney, who tucked in behind the front two. There’s no doubt such a scenario would prove detrimental to both Rooney and Mata, and bearing in mind the Colombian only failed to start due to jet lag, there are still many question marks surrounding United’s attack right now.

Herrera Off the Mark
Judging by yesterday’s display, the Spaniard may yet prove to be a legitimate Fantasy option for the season ahead. Herrera had been written off as a source of points due to a deep-lying role but the arrival of Daley Blind allowed him to shift to the right of the midfield diamond against the R’s and serve up a goal and assist. At just 7.3 in FPL, Herrera certainly looks worth monitoring if he can continue in the same role.

Van Gaal Moves to Four at the Back
The United boss admitted pre-match his decision to opt for a four-man defence was mainly down to injuries. With the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling sidelined and Luke Shaw fit enough only for the bench, Van Gaal was forced to field Tyler Blackett at centre-half, with Marcos Rojo covering on the left. While a second consecutive clean sheet is promising, it’s worth bearing in mind United have played against promoted opposition in those last couple of matches – with uncertainty still surrounding their first-choice personnel at the back, though, many may opt against investing in the Red Devils’ defence for now.

last week benched siggy, this week probably fab (or tadic) week after mirallas.
i know its a problem, but then again rests/injuries etc. dont force me into a transfer.
best advice i ever got in FPL i believe it was Parm who said - treat every transfer likes it is for a hit. so i rather have bench points than transfers.

put a poll like for captain, and eventually the top defenders (up to a definced budget) get in to represent the community, then top mids etc.

Repost, and some bonus comments 🙂

Is it fair to assume most people are going with 5 of the following?

Ramsey, Sterling, Di Maria, Hazard, Fabregas, Sanchez, Mata

    Aguero, Rooney, Costa, Balotelli (lol)

    + any other options 9M+

As far as I can see, all of them are worth owning, besides Balotelli but that's my own opinion.

Without making your defence completely terrible, you will have to sacrifice some of these players. My advice would be to choose the ones you like the best and stay patient for a few weeks. Just because Di Maria outscore Ramsey this week doesn't mean he will next week.

You can't have them all, and the worst thing you can possibly do in these situations is chase points and jump from a 2 pointer to a 15 pointer only for roles to be reversed (look at Mata vs Sterling)

    1. big oak
      • 15 Years
      11 years, 5 months ago

        Just based on RMT's etc. I've seen either 3 of the mids + 2 forwards + Pelle/Welbeck/Naismith or 2 of the mids + 3 forwards + Tadic/Mirallas/Chadli etc.

It's an emerging template, but one that is still quite varied.

We have lost Suarez from last season and that's about all I can think of where as we have added so many possible players you could really pick two or three teams and they would all do okay in a 3 week spell.

    Begovic (gilks)

    Cahill, Chester, Clyne, Oshea, Wisdom
    Mata, Ramsey, Eriksen, Siggy, Marney
    Rooney, Costa, Jovetic

    2 FT, 1m ITB

    Thinking of doing:

    Mata > Fab
    Jovetic > Naismith

I'll have 2.9 ITB for a possible Rooney > Aguerro

Is Aguerro essential now than Fab? my defense have been really shitty for the first 4 GWs, currently @ rank 220k.

For anyone asking about the security of Duff:

We have Michael Keane on loan from ManU, all summer we were looking for a new CB (admittedly experienced) to replace Duff, it never happened & got Keane on loan last minute (an U21 England ininternational, that's wants to prove a point he can play in Premier league & represent ManU). Dyche has confirmed him & Chalobah will be eased in, Dyche also says he wants to build a squad on young, upcoming, British players (He ticks this box also)

But as it stands, Dyche will keep same back four that has served him so well over past season & last couple games

bertrand stats slightly better, also less injury risk. if all things equal save the cash anyway IMO.

        Go with Bertrand.

I went with him on WC and there was only 0.1 difference. Clyne was lucky to get the attacking stats he did in the opening GW's (1 shot, 1 key pass for 2 attacking stats).

Bertrand is just as attacking and seems to have a nice combo with Tadic down the left, and even 0.1 can help in the future with price changes and also allows you to be more calm when it comes to early transfers.

Been asking the same - gonna go with Bertrand, he seems to have slightly better attacking stats so far and is obviously slightly cheaper.

well i have siggy and cabella
so if boyd is useful why not? i like rotation
currently i rotate cabella mcgeady and siggy depending on fixtures
but boyd will allow me to do balo-aguero after the weekend for free

We as a team were pretty poor attacking wise... So far this season Arfield has been best bet... (Albeit having Speroni make a stunning save from his pen)

It's a risk, but could be genius. It all depends on when LVG shuffles his attacking pack and brings Falcao in.

I have absolutely no idea what to do with this mob?

      Begovic ( Mccarthy)

      Clyne Lovren Taylor (Moore) (Wisdom)

      Fabregas Sterling Tadic Siggy (Boyd)

      Costa Rooney Balotelli

My plan was to go Balo -Welbeck and then Rooney-Aguero but I'm not petrified of having no United coverage even though I think Rooney will end up in the no10 role

well aguero is more attractive next week after getting chelsea out of the way
        ur problem is tadic
u can start with moving tadic out this week
or swallow it for this weekend and then do tadic rooney out for aguero and someone in
        and later deal with balo

What is your opinion on double defence?

I need to get rid of Jones, and double Saints is tempting me. I already have Clyne and could get Bertrand. Both are attacking, Southampton have a good defensive unit, are in form and have good fixtures. Seems like a steal at just 10m for both, or is it too reliant on one mid-table team?

Other option is to diversify my CS risk and bring in a Stoke defender.

Fwiw, my current defence is Jones, Clyne, Chester, Duff & Moore. Cheap, but has served me very well so far. I do have 2.5m itb, but premium defenders are appealing to me yet.

The issue with double up is that for bad fixtures like man city away you are stuck playing one or your other 3, one of whom will prob be injured, dropped or just crap and in a crap team. Ok for short little windows though

About right I guess. That's whats tempting by this double; in the next 6 the only 'difficult' fixture is Spurs aways, and my other 3 defenders have favourable fixtures that week.

G'day G's, a lot of Rooney/Di Maria (c) this week? Rooney saved my GW from total disaster (well not really since my rank got even worse after the update yesterday).
