Our Friday evening analysis of the armband options in the Gameweek ahead comes around again. The three-part approach, which takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections, will hopefully help to steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Captain Poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

Captain Poll

Judging by the voting in this week’s Captain Poll, there’s no real standout candidate as we head towards Gameweek 5. United’s Wayne Rooney just edges it at the summit – ahead of a trip to Leicester, he receives just over 21% of votes cast after grabbing a goal and assist in last week’s comprehensive home win over QPR.

Team-mate Angel di Maria picked up similar returns against the R’s and has persuaded 17% to hand him the captaincy – only just less than Chelsea’s prolific Diego Costa. Despite firing seven goals in four appearances, most Fantasy managers reckon the summer signing faces a tough task to continue his scoring streak as the Blues roll up to the Etihad, with many fearing Jose may park the bus again.

Further down, Emmanuel Adebayor, with a mere 7% FPL ownership, offers a strong differential alternative. Rested from Tottenham’s midweek Europa League match, he takes on an out-of-sorts West Brom backline that that conceded two or more goals in three out of four matches under new manager, Alan Irvine. Radamel Falcao also find a place in the top five for United’s visit to the King Power Stadium, despite finding himself on the bench last weekend.

Elsewhere, a trio of highly-owned midfielders are also in consideration. Gylfi Sigurdsson has delivered 16 points in his two appearances at the Liberty ahead of the visit of Southampton, whilst Aaron Ramsey – similar to the Swans playmaker – has scored or assisted in three of his four appearances as Arsenal make their way to Villa. After being rested from the starting XI last weekend, Raheem Sterling is a sure starter for Liverpool’s trip to West Ham – two goals in three appearances in the Reds’ starting line-up bodes well against a backline yet to keep out their opponents.

Danny Welbeck is the highest Arsenal player in this week’s Poll as the Gunners attempt to break down the league’s most resilient defence. Yet to open his account for Arsene Wenger’s side, the deadline-day signing is backed by over 4% of your votes – more than Sergio Aguero ahead of City’s clash with Chelsea, despite the Argentine scoring in three of his four league appearances.

With Naismith too I would be shitting myself at c Baines or licking my lips.

Dropped Naismith for Ade. Maybe mad?

        Have Baines though

The sheer fact Baines is a differential is enough for me not to captain him, regardless of NCNB

Having trouble benching my defenders so ordered Paddy Power's clean sheet odds

    Everton…..Evens v Crystal Palace..13/2
    Spurs………..6/5 v West Brom…..11/2
    Aston Villa….7/2 v Arsenal……..11/8
    Newcastle…..6/4 v Hull…………13/5
    Leicester..…..5/1 v Man Utd……..6/4
    QPR…………9/5 v Stoke……….17/10

    West Ham..…9/2 v Liverpool…….9/5
    Swansea…….2/1 v Southampton..5/2

A few of this week's popular transfers could easily backfire over the next fortnight...

    E.g.
    1) Chelsea defender > Baines
    - You may be wishing you held off next week when Chelsea have Villa at home and Everton have back to back away games against Liverpool and United...

    2) Picking Adebayor over Pelle
    - Looks good this week, but when Pelle plays QPR at home next week whereas Adebayor is away against Arsenal, you may be regretting it...

What I'm saying is make sure you look ahead past the next GW when deciding who to transfer in, the majority of people already do this but it's easy to be lured in when you're transferring in someone who has a plum fixture straight away.

Ade to Pelle is what I will be doing this week which allows to upgrade Balotelli to Kun if required...
As far as Che defenders ---> Baines is concern, I did that last night and nothing to regret. Our defence has been shaky and points return have been shocking. Liverpool is decent game to get a penalty while Man Utd is easy clean sheet game 😉

Burnley attack is so poor...Newcastle defence is even worse and Hull attack decent...

Any advice as to whether I should bench Clyne for Chester? Not sure about doubling up on saints D versus Swansea

    Bergovic
    Bertrand, Clyne, Moreno
    ADM(C), Siggy ,Stirling, Fab,
    Naismith, Hun, Costa(v)

    Chester, Zaha, Duff

      play Duff over Bertrand imo...

    More opinions please 🙂

    RMT GW5:

    Bego
    Ivan - Clyne - Naylor
    Fab - Sterling - Siggy - ADM
    Costa - Kun(c) - Naismith

    Bench: McCarthy, Boyd, Pieters, Moore
    0.1m in bank

    Couple of questions:
    1. Pieters > Duff and play Duff instead of Clyne?
    2. Captain on Kun or Costa? Or Siggy for differential?
    3. Save FT? Or use on defender?

      1) id play Pieters over Naylor
      2) whoever you want
      3) bank it

That'd mean doubling up on Stoke at QPR?

well youd rather play him than moore and stoke have good fixtures, so hard to get rid...but maybe get duff considering you already have bego, tough one 😐

Posted this yesterday, but still not convinced

need to lose rvp - options are rooney, ade and aguero. Roon and Ade are great (c) shouts, but for some reason I prefer aguero, even though that leaves me short of mata->di maria money next week
