Brendan Rodgers refuses to give up hope on Daniel Sturridge’s chances of featuring in the Merseyside derby. Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans joined the injured list at United. QPR have concerns in midfield with Jordan Mutch and Joey Barton sidelined. Marouane Chamakh returns to contention as Palace play host to Leicester. Paul Lambert welcomes back a quartet of players as they overcome a virus ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge. Everton could again be without Seamus Coleman and Steven Pienaar for the Merseyside derby, while Ronaldo Koeman suggests a weekend return for Toby Alderweireld.

Brendan Rodgers will assess Daniel Sturridge over the next couple of days as the forward attempts to recover from a thigh complaint in time for the Merseyside derby. While the Reds boss confirmed his star striker is “nearer to fitness” it’s believed Sturridge faces a race against time to make it. Rodgers also went on to say “playing 120 minutes in midweek” won’t be a problem for Raheem Sterling and is hopeful over Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson.

Chris Smalling had to leave Man United’s training session with “stiff legs” according to Louis Van Gaal, who has since ruled the centre-back out of the weekend visit of West Ham. Smalling joins Jonny Evans and Phil Jones on the injury list, with Van Gaal hinting that he will now turn to youth as he looks to put together a new back four against the Hammers.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has ruled out both Joey Barton and Jordan Mutch for the trip to St Mary’s. This leaves the R’s short in midfield, though Redknapp also suggest that Sandro “might be okay” following his knee injury sustained last week. Niko Krancjar has also emerged as an injury concern, while Adel Taarabt remains doubtful with an ankle problem.

Neil Warnock has confirmed that forward Marouane Chamakh is available again for the weekend, after the Moroccan missed recent outings with a hamstring injury. The Eagles boss, however, admits “there won’t be many changes” from the win at Everton last week.

Ashley Westwood, Darren Bent, Andi Weimann and Nathan Baker have all recovered from the virus that swept through Villa’s squad last weekend. Paul Lambert though, played down the chances of a return for skipper Ron Vlaar, suggesting that the weekend will almost certainly come too soon for the defender following a calf injury.

Roberto Martinez has cast doubts over the availability of both Steven Pienaar and Seamus Coleman for the Merseyside derby, with the Toffees boss reckoning “it’s still too soon to tell” if they’ll be ready for the weekend.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman has revealed that Toby Alderweireld is back in training following a hamstring injury. Koeman adds that it’s “looking positive” for the Belgian’s chances of a weekend return. Meanwhile Koeman is hopeful that fellow defender Maya Yoshida will return to training today.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

    Forster (McCarthy)

Clyne / Shawcross / Taylor (Duff / Moore)

    Sterling / Siggy / Fabregas / Lamela / Schneiderlin

    Costa / Aguero (Naismith)

    Thoughts greatly appreciated.

      Look to dump Lamela soon.

I think Shawcross is too expensive for what Stoke are delivering. Better options.

      Andddd Naismith is your call.

Hold one more week. No guarantees, but North London derby is often high scoring and Ramsey seems to be the definition of a big match goal scorer.

I have a 1 FT with 2.0m ITB, and I'm somewhat reticent to use it. Little help?

    Foster
    Bertrand, Moreno, Moore
    Sterling, Sigurdsson, Fabregas, Ramsey
    Rooney, Pelle, Costa (c)

    Krul; Wanyama, Chambers, Chester

    - Would like to do Rooney to Aguero, either this week or next, but there are other things I could spend the transfer on too (Ramsey, Chester, Krul)

    Thanks in advance!

It's tempting, but I'm in no desperate rush to get the cash and I only brought Moreno in recently for the their fixtures (more for his attacking threat than their defence though! It was a route out of Terry). Also, slightly closed minded, but Liverpool > Burnley just seems wrong!

right, no i wouldn't double up on Burnley. and thanks for reminding me why i got Moreno.

Form is better than fixtures though , to a large extent (Ulloa)

Not a poor shout. I was in a comfortable position when I did Terry > Moreno, felt I could afford a punt on someone with good fixtures and an apparent attacking threat. Will continue to play him until such a time as I have no other pressing concerns, then I'll likely plump for a defender in form, rather than fixtures this time.

Why won't he play? Jose knows the EPL is his best chance of glory, can't see him ditching an on fire fit Costa because of ECL.

Perhaps if you are behind and try to risk picking a differential captain. Moreover Villa's defence has been great except 6 mins in last match and Chelsea have a midweek match they have to win, so Costa may not play 90 mins. Not madness at all to try picking another captain, just risk.

Do you have Southampton defender/s? That would probably sway my decision.

But either way, I say don't do it this week when you have the option of Foster at home to Burnley.

...apologies in advance when Burnley score 7! But so far this season I'd like to think I've made some decent shouts.

I agree with you totally bud. It's worth saving the FT as it might be better put to use next week where we might all be scrambling to get in Aguero or dare I say RVP (an unexpected hat trick would leave us all with a decision). Cheers for the input dude.

Hope everyone has seen this story about Jonjo

    http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/harrys-hero-1966425.aspx#ty1MIRSJcxqkJYFK.01

I remember when I was a little kid, we were asked to write a story about who we'd invite for dinner to meet our family and what we'd eat.

I spent the evening entertaining Mike Tyson, who'd clearly taken a break from knocking MF's the F out to have some nice Yorkshire puddings 😆

Who did you dream of meeting at that age?

Ah that's lovely. Literally reversed the direction my opinion's on Shelvey were travelling. Find it hard to knock him too much after that.

Somewhat geekily I always dreamt of meeting long dead scientists/philosophers. Don't think you could have a much better dinner guest than Einstein or Socrates.

    Krul > Forester

    Williams or Terry > Clyne

    These look good?
Who should I take out, Williams or Terry?

Pick a back three to play tomorrow??

    A. Bertrand
    B. Chambers
    C. Trippier
    D. Cahill
    E. Moore

    I'm thinking A, C and D.

Thanks. It's a tough one. Palace have more goals for, so thinking Trippier against Brom.

    Forster (McCarthy)

Clyne / Shawcross / Taylor (Wisdom / Moore)

Sterling / Siggy / Fabregas / Schneiderlin (Lamela)

    Costa / Aguero / Naismith

Trades this week were Lovren, Krul, Zaha --> Schneiderlin, Forster, Wisdom for a -4. Good trades?

    A - Siggy (SUN)
    B - Scheiderlin (QPR)
    C - Ulloa (CRY)

    Thoughts?

Hi , was just wondering if I was eligible for the "old farts" league

I can verify I'm both old and a fart.

If one of the old farts in team Australia would care to PM the league code I would be eternally grateful.

    thanks in advance.

    Begovic
    Clyne VanAanholt Ivanovic
    Sterling Siggy DiMaria Fabregas
    Costa (c) Welbeck Balotelli

    Subs McCarthy, Zaha, Wisdom, Hutton

Need to get rid of wilf if he's not going to be first choice and seriously considering Mario to Pelle although tempted to see what Mario can do against a leaky Everton defence.

Also anyone know if McCarthy is actually going to get picked over Green at QPR otherwise I'm going to have to get rid.
