Diego Costa and Eden Hazard steer Chelsea to victory over Arsenal. Angel di Maria grabs a goal and assist as United edge past Everton, Christian Eriksen fires Spurs to victory over the Saints, whilst Diafra Sakho and Stewart Downing are in the points again as the Hammers brush aside QPR.

Hazard On the Spot
Diego Costa continued his relentless scoring exploits at the Bridge by taking his tally to nine for the season in the 2-0 win over Arsenal, though the Spain international was – for once – overshadowed by Eden Hazard. A converted spot-kick laid the argument to rest over who is the Blues’ number one penalty-taker this term and helped the Belgian move onto 39 points – just two behind Cesc Fabregas. With an ownership of 13% compared to the Spaniard’s 51%, Hazard is developing into a deadly differential.

Blues Resilience Improving
Meanwhile, in defence, Chelsea delivered back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this term, with yesterday’s tally of just five shots over the 90 minutes suggesting that Jose Mourinho is tightening things up a bit. Those thinking of moving on Branislav Ivanovic for Leighton Baines due to the Blues’ tricky schedule (cpl, mun, QPR, liv) may now have second thoughts as Mourinho’s side start to rack up the defensive returns once again, though for those unwilling to shell out on the pricey Serbian, Cesar Azpilicueta is currently looking great value for his 6.0 price tag.

Sanchez Fails to Spark Gunners
After being utilised as a sub in the previous two league matches, Alexis Sanchez returned to the first XI yesterday afternoon. The Chilean was unable to help Arsene Wenger’s men breach the Blues’ rearguard but his installation in the XI at least suggests he’s back in the frame ahead of a very kind run of fixtures. The Gunners face just two of last season’s top eight in the next nine Gameweeks now and, in spite of yesterday’s loss, the likes of Sanchez and Danny Welbeck will be firmly on Fantasy radars as Wenger’s side look to the schedule to re-ignite their faltering title tilt.

Eriksen Sees Off Southampton
Cristian Eriksen rocketed back on to the radar yesterday as his second goal of the season earned Spurs a 1-0 victory over Southampton. Having found the net in two of his last four league appearances, the Dane is certainly starting to deliver as a result of a move to a central role behind Emmanuel Adebayor and, down to just 7.8 in FPL with a 7% ownership, is another differential starting to appear on our radars again. It’s hard to look beyond Nacer Chadli in Spurs’ midfield ranks, though; the latter moved up to fifth overall in the FPL standings after serving up an assist, yet in spite of a very kind 6.3 price tag, is still owned by a mere 10% of managers.

Saints Stumble at the Lane
Ronald Koeman’s men rolled up to Spurs on the back of a six-match winning streak in all competitions but were unable to breach their hosts’ backline. Graziano Pelle managed only one attempt on goal, whilst Dusan Tadic created a total of just one chance as the away side failed to click into gear. The good news for the Saints is that they now have five excellent fixtures to bounce back from the defeat (SUN, STO, hul, LEI, avl) and our faith in the likes of Tadic, Pelle and Sadio Mane, as well as their plethora of defensive talent, still remains strong for now.

Di Maria Delivers Yet Again
Angel Di Maria produced a goal and assist for the third time in four Gameweeks as United climbed into fourth spot. Snapped up by over 163,000 FPL managers last week, the Argentine now sits in 35% of sides but is set for significant investment over the international fortnight after averaging over eight points per appearance for Louis van Gaal’s side. Radamel Falcao finally found the net for the first time since arriving at Old Trafford but with Chelsea, City and Arsenal in the next five, few will be willing to load up on United options – with Di Maria’s exploits earning him plenty of interest, the Colombian is likely to remain off the radar for now.

Tough Times for the Toffees
Despite missing a penalty in the Premier League for the first time in his career, Leighton Baines comforted his 17.6% ownership by contributing the assist for Steven Naismith’s headed strike against United. The left-back continues to look the one Toffees player worthy of investment right now, though Naismith’s first goal in four could signal a return to the form shown in the first few weeks of the season. Sitting in 17th in the table, Everton’s form is undeniably poor, but their upcoming fixtures (AVL, bur, SWA, sun, WHM) should help them improve their position and also regain our Fantasy faith in their assets.

Sakho and Downing in Fine Form
Diafra Sakho scored for the fifth consecutive match in all competitions as the Hammers saw off QPR 2-0 to further cement his credentials as one of the best budget forward options around. Stewart Downing was also in the points once again with an assist and two bonus points, despite being shifted into central midfield to accommodate Mauro Zarate (making his first start since Gameweek 4). Sam Allardyce’s outfit secured their first clean sheet of the season against the Rs, and with decent fixtures to follow (bur, MCI, sto, AVL), the West Londoners are currently encouraging investment in all areas of the pitch.

    Mannone / Heaton

    Ivan / Bertrand / Wilson / Wisdom / Naylor

    Siggy / Chadli / ADM / Sterling / Fabs

    Welbz / Costa / Pelle

£1.7M in the bank. 1 FT.

    What would you do?

The thing I'm finding most tempting is Ivan > Baines... Or switching one of the keepers.

my worrry is just that Baines won't keep many cleanies. I wouldn't mind keeping Moreno as I'm confident Liverpool will keep a clean sheet soon. Obviously I'd rather have Ivan than Wilson, but will he outscore him more thna Aguero will Pelle? I might end up going with B in the end, but agree A looks better

Everton Arsenal Southampton L'pool have very good fixtures for next 5 weeks, my concern with Aguero is injuries. With A you'll still be able to free up more cash as well (Ivan + Baines) for upgrades.

I'm going to object and say B. Don't get me wrong, A is a good team, but B seems more of a differentiator with Kun and I'm personally not a fan of having more than one heavy hitter in defence.

A seems a pretty template team at the moment, so I wouldn't use a wildcard to create a template team.

I\m 50k overall but very close to the top of my mini league. Got to decide if I will get captain Aguero much or go safety first with Costa. IMO if you're not prepared to (c) Aguero then he does not nearly justify his price. Over the next 6 weeks there will be some very tough captaincy calls if I have both him and DC in the team

Well yeah, but if you captain Costa and Aguero scores well, it will still be very good for you as Kun's ownership is only around 12%, e.g. still a big differentiator.

And as you said, he is also captain material and reliable.

Cheers. He is still a differential I agree, but without the (C), I think the money is better spread around and that he doesn't really justify the price tag. With the (C) he could be worth it though

Yeah. He is due for a big game, as he has been very impressive lately. If you aren't willing to captain him, maybe don't buy him though.

tricky. That debate will rage all season. Fabs is more consistent, chipping away with assists a plenty, whereas Hazard is a bit more explosive. Doubt there'll be much in it over the course of the season. So I suppose it might come down to having whichever of them is 'in form'

Anyone worried about Sterling's fitness? I'm concerned that he'll play 180 mins for England (because y'know we might lose those games) and be burnt out before week 10.

Seeing as Liverpool rely heavily on him as well as England I think he's potentially a fading star.

Get used to it I'd say boy. Its just getting worse. People can say its the end of templates every other week but we all know the story. Its been 3+yrs now of the same problem. It's coincided with this and many other sites growing. We're all using the same data. Even 'diff's' will only be fpt a game or 2 before they're largely jumped on.
Think they're trying to curb it with the transfer market but it's just making it worse imo

It was this time last year where I started my 'Who wants to be a millionaire?' league. For those of you who dont know this was a league for managers who were ranked outside of 1,000,000 after GW7. The purpose was to see which of the 67 (i think) participants could get the highest come the end of the season and how many could break the top 100k.

The winner of this league finished well withing the top 5k with 4 others finishing in the top 10k. I was a bit further out along with around 20 odd more who finished in the top 50k.

So even if you have had a bad start then do not fret. This is a marathon not a sprint, take your time and dont make any rash decisions and always go with your gut even if the masses on here tell you not to.

Cheers for setting this up btw KOL. I joined your league last season when I was ranked 2.5mil after a shocking start, but this was a good league to get motivated again seeing managers in the league who have a good history. Didn't get as high as I would like, but happy enough with how I climbed to top 100k then fizzled abit out as I tried a punt too many to close the gap in the last GWs.

Thankfully i've had a better start this season and seems like most on here had a decent start as well!

I'd consider Chadli...still unsure about Downing when Nolan is back...I'd like to see WHU for another game before deciding.

There's not a lot of good options in that price bracket.

Henderson maybe. Sterling to Henderson may work out well.

Do you think Hendo will anywhere near match Sterling for points over the season though? I think his points so far may be deceptive. Good points though, when is Nolan likely to be back?

If Liverpool score a few goals Henderson will grab the odd goal and an assist. He wont' get as much as Sterling...but I think he'll still get points. It's a case of will Baines plus Henderson get more than Sterling and Ntaylor. I think that's a very real possibility.

Indeed. Yeah I am tempted to do that, would be for a hit this week so will probably save, then re-assess after the int'l break - gives me a chance to see if Everton look like capitalising on their kinder run now, and whether Sterling picks up the pace again

the main benefit would be having a better gk than Krul and swapping Terry for Baines. But it would have meant a weaker midfield.

In the end I just swapped Silva for Di Maria, accepted that the little Spaniard has Modricitis and went for the talented Argentinian. Team already looks miles better with that move.

I think Baines is great for the next few weeks and he was a save away from a monster haul. I'd love to get him but it ruins my current team to do so.

      ADM, Sterling, Siggy, Fabregas
      Costa, Aguero, (Pelle or Welbeck)

If you have that, or a -4 away from getting it then no need to WC (unless you badly want Baines).

That's basically the same as me. I'd like to swap Terry for Azpi or Baines, I'd like a better goalkeeper and I worry about Wisdom with Gamboa on the scene. But basically I can play three decent defenders most weeks.

If I can last out until next yrs dgwks it will be a momentous achievement for me. First time ever I've managed to do that.

The beauty of having Aguero is that you always make money on him when he's fit. He always scores when fit. And when he's injured you can get any striker you want to replace him as he's so expensive. If Aguero gets injured, which is likely, then the move to Welbeck, Sturridge even frees up valuable funds to get Baines in anyway. This is why I'm never keen on cheap strikers - really hard to get rid when their form dips.

What about both Pelle and Welbeck + Baines? The fixtures for all 3 should help minimise any damage Aguero does, at least for the next 4 or 5 weeks.

I agree. Terry will keep getting the odd clean sheet. Its not like I'd be holding a 2pt every week player.

Lack of Liverpool could be an issue....but then again, it could be an odd game where Henderson and Lallana get the goals, in which case no damage done.

Not having Di Maria anymore was getting to me. I realised that my rank each week rested on Silva - as my key differential. If he scores and Di Maria and Fab don't do well I'm ok. But as soon as di Maria and Fab get points and Silva blanks its a big fall in the rankings. Silva, as much as I love him as a player, is just not getting those regular pts that Di Maria and Fab are getting.

In replacing Rooney with Sakho last week, I now have 4.9 to play with.

This allows me to upgrade Evans --> Baines, Moreno --> Kompany and Zaha --> Chadli and I still will have have 1.4 in the bank as it stands.
