Ahmed Elmohamady faces a race to be fit for Hull’s trip to Arsenal. West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate could be back in time to face Burnley, Sunderland’s Emanuele Giaccherini may be sidelined until December, while Nigel Pearson talks up Riyad Mahrez’ prospects after the wide man served up a goal and assist against Burnley.

Elmohamady Withdraws from Egypt Squad

Ahmed Elmohamady has dropped out of Egypt’s squad for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers with a back injury and returned to Hull for further monitoring.

The Scout Says: The Egyptian picked up the problem in the final minutes of the weekend win over Palace and reports suggests he also sustained an arm injury in the incident. Having played 64 consecutive matches in all competitions for the Tigers, his loss would be a bitter blow as Steve Bruce’s side roll up to Arsenal, with Liam Rosenior on standby to deputise if Elmohamady fails to make it. Bruce’s shift to 3-5-2 last weekend brought James Chester back into the first-team, though regardless of formation, Andrew Robertson, at 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, still seems the safest option in the Tigers’ rearguard. With Liverpool, Southampton, Spurs, United and Everton also on their agenda in the next seven Gameweeks, clean sheets look very much few and far between for Bruce’s team.

Pearson Praise for Mahrez

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has talked up the recent performances of Riyad Mahrez after the 23-year-old winger bagged a goal and assist at the weekend, describing the Algerian as a “match winner at both ends”.

The Scout Says: Having been dropped in Gameweeks 5 and 6, Mahrez was one of the main beneficiaries of Pearson’s move to a 4-4-2 set-up against Burnley, as he returned to the starting line-up on the right flank and earned his first attacking points of the campaign. The Algerian now sits atop the Leicester midfield rankings in FPL with 21 points, and at just 4.9 could prove an outstanding budget midfield option if he can hold down a starting role ahead of the Foxes’ kind upcoming agenda (new, swa, WBA, sou, SUN, qpr). Mahrez’ gain may be David Nugent’s loss, however, after Saturday’s change in formation saw the English forward left out of the line-up for the first time this season, with Jamie Vardy the man preferred alongside Leonardo Ulloa up top for the Foxes.

Giaccherini Concern for Sunderland

Reports in Italy suggest that Emanuele Giaccherini could be out until December with an ankle problem, after the Sunderland midfielder paid visit to his national side’s training camp in midweek.

The Scout Says: Yesterday’s news will have come as a blow for Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, though will be welcome news for Connor Wickham’s slender band of owners with the England Under-21s man’s start on the left wing now looking assured for the next couple of months. Some may feel that Wickham’s potential has been dented by his move back to the flank to accommodate Steven Fletcher in the central forward spot, but last weekend’s 11-point haul illustrated the 5.8-priced forward is still capable of delivering from out wide. With Wickham back on the flank, competition for the Black Cats’ right wing berth is intensifying – Will Buckley has now started each of the last two but Adam Johnson will be hoping to oust the summer signing, after being dropped to the bench against Stoke at the weekend. A horrendous run for the Black Cats from now until Gameweek 15, in which they face all of last season’s top five, should give Fantasy managers plenty of reasons to steer clear of their midfield assets for now anyway.

Kouyate Pushing for Quick Return

West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate could be back in the frame for the Gameweek 8 clash with Burnley after making a rapid recovery from a groin injury. The Senegal international had originally been ruled out for up to six weeks after sustaining the problem against Liverpool in Gameweek 6, but is now on course to make a return at Turf Moor.

The Scout Says: Kouyate’s return could be great news for owners of Stewart Downing, after the former Liverpool midfielder was moved to a deeper role against QPR at the weekend due to injuries. That didn’t stop the 5.6-priced man picking up his third assist of the season, however, as he continues to deliver on his underlying stats. With encounters against Stoke and Villa also on the Hammers’ agenda in the next four, Downing’s appeal as a budget midfield option seems unlikely to diminish any time soon.

PIENAAR READY TO PRESS ON

Everton’s Steven Pienaar believes he is still far from full match sharpness after returning from a six-week absence with a thigh injury against Man United last Sunday. The South African was handed a start by Roberto Martinez at Old Trafford, but was subbed off just after the hour mark, and is aware that he will require more pitch time to build his fitness:

“For me, it was a great feeling just to be back on the pitch after almost six weeks out. I didn’t expect to start but when you get this type of opportunity, you have to grab it with both hands. For me, it’s important to stay focused and stay fit now. You can do all the graft and the running, but the thing I’ve missed is playing. It’s different from just running in training and I need more games under my belt [to get back to 100 per cent].”

The Scout Says: Ruled out since Gameweek 2, Pienaar’s return to the fray coincides with an excellent run of fixtures for the Toffees. The South African’s words should also allay fears over any injury, after initial reports suggested he was withdrawn due to a recurrence of the problem in the 2-1 defeat. Coupled with the continued absence of Kevin Mirallas due to a hamstring problem, this should mean that the 5.8-priced midfielder is likely to feature in the Toffees’ starting line-up in two weekends’ time when they face Aston Villa. The Merseyside outfit have been struggling for form recently, with just one win in their last five league fixtures, though they have an attractive schedule ahead of them (AVL, bur, SWA, sun, WHM) which may well provide Pienaar the platform to impress as a real under-the-radar option.

People don't value consistency and they don't rate players who score their points through assists.
As of yesterday Baines has become 'essential' according to this site, so people are downgrading Fab to fit him in.

Ox is a proper sicknote so I doubt he'll ever have a decent run in the team.

Hmm. Im just musing. I liked his link up with chambers. Wilshire looked good too. But this was all against Villa maybe looking at it trough rose tinted glasses lol missed the cuty game. Heard they were dire but most of that was Ozil. And the opponents will be a lot easier

Ox is generally Arsenal's most dangerous player going forward. The only one who's able to dribble his way past players. His close control is not Hazard's but he can muscle his way past players and his passing ability is way above average. He'll do well if he gets a run in the side.

I'm in a similar position. Have 2 FTs but no obvious moves. You could downgrade Scheiderlin and upgrade Ulloa to Welbeck? Depends if you think he's worth it

      1. WipWapJaws

Was thinking of Ulloa -> Cisse and Scheiderlin -> Chadli

Moses is an option and I could upgrade my keeper to a 5.5 option

        1. Galfadez

Hey guys I could do with a bit of help trying to get a better defense. I have had Colocinni for a while and he is really like having 1 man less, so I'd like to get rid of him quickly. Here's my team:

    Szczesny

    Kompany - Ivanovic - Colocinni

    Siggy - ADM - Fab - Chadli - Sterling

    Costa - Pelle

    Subs are all just fillers

    1. The Kolarov Mane ⚔
      12 years, 27 days ago

Downgrade Sczcesny - keepers hardly get BPS - use that cash to upgrade Colo to someone like Bertrand/Clyne/Dier or even Chambers to get Arsenals cleanies if that is what you are after. Attacking wingbacks.

Don't waste cash on a keeper, my max is 4.5/4.5 or 4.5/5.0 max.

      1. AidanOS
        12 years, 27 days ago

what good keepers would you recommend to allow Colo to bertrand/clyne? 0 ITB

        1. The Kolarov Mane ⚔
          12 years, 27 days ago

It isn't really about a good keeper, the cash invested there is not wise really.

Cheap keepers are often shot at as frequently as a looter in riot... so they get save points. In the event that they manage a shut out, the cleany is a bonus. I have Mannone - Krul as a rotation pair - 4.5/4.5 - that will save you 1.0mil to work with by ditching Sczcesny.

There are plenty 4.5 options maybe a little more pricey now, just google rotation pairs to get an idea of which work well.

Some folk go for a 4.5/4.0 pair so that they only really have one playing keeper.

          1. AidanOS
            12 years, 27 days ago

I will then have enough for Bertrand/Clyne, any recommendations?

            1. The Kolarov Mane ⚔
              12 years, 27 days ago

I have Clyne - but Bertrand is somewhat favoured with more crosses into the box... for me either or really. Bertrand is also .2 cheaper which I guess makes the choice easy for you.

Any suggestions? Need to upgrade my defence (and GK) but limited money ITB means I would have to downgrade elsewhere.

      gw8 Fabregas>Mahrez/Jedinak, Moore/Duff>Baines; gw9 Krul>Lloris.

        Interesting, cheers! 🙂

Definitely looking to get Baines and likes to Lloris. Fabregas performing very well know but likes of Sterling could make way.

Do i really need to have any of clyne/Betrand when i already have forster in goal? ma other defenders are azip, baines, Naylor, duff & Chambers

With Azp and Baines in there already then I would say no.

Just went over to a colleagues computer - a colleague who takes part in our work mini-league - and he had this website open. I'm outraged. Cheating little sod.

Monitor his PC closely... when the FPL site is open, shout *fire* and press the fire alarm - as everyone runs out of the building screaming... make some adjustments to his team.

I can guarentee you that the same fab owners who were saying he was a better fpl pick than hazard will sell him for hazard at some point as the season progresses 🙂

Obviously - always go for the players scoring the points.
Getting the changeover done at the right time is the crucial bit!

After 7 weeks they've got more points for 1M less though so they won't be swallowing their words too painfully.

if fab blanked last match he would have 3 blanks on a row nd people would have started the sales already. Hazard is a season keeper and i feel he's in for a great season in fpl nd it would be a tight contest between ADM for 1st in midfeild rankings

Anybody looking at Silva? I don't usually, but his shots in the box are unusually high, so far ...

          😀

Highlighted Silva in my Rambo-Rooney replacements article...I like him as an option and can see him racking up the points in the coming weeks. Looks like him and Kun are slowly rising in form.

    2. Kirby
      12 years, 27 days ago

Aguero is enough cover for me. Silva isn't getting near enough points for me to consider him at his cost.

      1. Epic Fail
        12 years, 27 days ago

Don't limit your team by thinking about 'cover'. Just think about points. Fair enough you don't think he will bring in the points though.

        1. Kirby
          12 years, 27 days ago

True, I just mean cover in that there are many midfield options with higher points potential than Silva. Plus don't like to get lured into the 'City can be amazing when they play well' so the necessity to get in one of their attacking players.

He typically would be in my team but he's just not getting the points.

2 great articles on Baines (got him in 2 weeks ago) but it means I'm short on the cash needed for Di Maria. SO I have the following line up dilemma to aim for over next 2/3 transfers:

This weeks transfer is Vardy > Aguero but then....
    A) Aguero, Pelle, Fabregas, Ivanovic 0.1m spare - but no Di Maria but I can sort out Krul/Foster with GW9 transfer.
    B) Aguero, Pelle, ADM, Bertrand 1.2m spare - takes 2 transfers and stuck with crap goalies.

Really don't want to get rid of Fab, but stats say he's perfomring above average and fixtures take a turn for worse and ManU's are improving and lot's of returns from injury to help with that single CS point for mid's.

Chelsea, City and Arsenal in the next 5 for ADM.

He has had a great start, but he's had 3 promoted sides, West Ham who often struggle away, and Everton who haven't had a great start, also at home.

Yep I got in Baines with intention of ditching Ivan the week after to free up funds, but still have both and this week already have enough for Vardy > Aguero, so funds will stay locked up in Ivanovic another week at least.
