Don’t get us wrong – we’re not labelling this latest droning session as “essential” listening. However, there’s no getting away from the fact that the concept of essential players has dominated the airwaves at Scout towers over the past week.

In this latest episode, Granville and I take on this meaty subject, whilst chewing over the importance of ownership and spit out the semblance of an opinion on both. Around that main course, we take on the usual bevvy of regulars with the usual haphazard panache.

Essential? Not quite, not even on a rainy Thursday night.

Grab this crucial slice of audio via this link or explore this necessary noise via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If he doesn't perform, you'll be looking at him and his measly score all weekend, regretting ever decision you've ever made, especially if others perform super well. You'll be like "why didn't I captain him instead!" and you'll be left to sit there, drinking away your sorrows

It's not based on stats although there is a perception the players aren't quite as sharp for the early ko.
It's more just that it's a downer on your gameweek if your cap fails at the first hurdle

The regular punts article in "Moving Up", and also a new “Budget Alternatives” article that might become a regular. Receiving some great feedback on it, so would love to see what you lot think 🙂

Apologies for the scrappy nature of writing for the “Moving Up” article, really haven’t had much time on my hands the past coupla days. Will give it a quick gloss up tonight when I have the time. 🙂

    1. Pasqualinho
      • 16 Years

So what? He's your 5th mid, his price doesn't really matter unless you're selling him.

      1. pompeyfan
        • 16 Years
        11 years, 2 months ago

but you'd want to be able to sell him at the same price during your winter wc either to pick a better option or a cheaper filler! Not the end of the world of course tho

When you're 0.1 short of a team you want in the Jan WC then you can complain - if it comes to that, which it probably won't. Far too early to worry about.

Most people must have bought Baines at the expense of Aguero/Fab/Ivan. Foward lines mostly have Naismith/Pelle/Welbeck/Berahinho and Costa. Suppose Baines toils for back to back one pointers, Aguero hits a hattie and brace in those two games, and Hutton/Duffy/ Moore etc nick a goal/assist, what would you do? Do you have an exit plan? Who are you gonna run to? Just food for thought.

But what if Aguero blows a hammy and Coleman gets two goals but Baines assisted them and Fab gets 3 assists but also an own goal and a red card and a missed penalty? 😉

Yeah of course. Its always good to have an exit plan in such a scenario mate. Such decisions have a great impact on your rank. Take for instance I sold Costa when Mourinho duped us and I could not bring him in for two weeks. This is because i had to take hits but was reluctant. We all know what happened.

I'm holding off. The fixtures are tough, and I think it's worth gambling over the next couple weeks on other options outscoring him to try to make up some ground. I will say that he does look like the best/safest elite midfield option long term though, which I didn't think would be the case when he first arrived.

    Current team:

    Bego, Krul
    Chester, Baines, Clyne, Hutton, Moore
    Silva, Sterling, Fab, Siggy, Catterhole
    Pelle, Welbz, Costa

    3.1 ITB

Looking to bring in Ivanovic for Chester. But looking at his stats, his goal threat was enormous the first 4 matches, but the last 3 gameweeks it has diminished a lot. I haven't watched whole games (only highlights). But anyone know if this is the case and why?

You could say that he's permitted to go all out against weaker teams but Everton was in the first 4 and Aston Villa in the last 3. So seems strange.

Worth bringing in as I also have Foster?

Consider chester -> dawson since I have 2FT and no other pressing transfers

I'm considering Baines. Depends on whether Coleman plays.

Morning all! 1.9m in the bank and two free transfers... Strongly considering the Baines option, but also pondering a swoop for Alexis Sanchez instead. Baines would have to be for Moreno, Alexis for Fabregas. Any views appreciated!

    Forster (McCarthy)
    Ivan Moreno Clyne (Moore Taylor)
    ADM Fabregas Sterling Siggy (Boyd)
    Costa Pelle Welbeck

Leaning that way, I think. For old times sake: didn't own him last season.

I do think Sanchez could be about to hit some serious point scoring form soon though. Those fixtures...

    Morning Gents.

Can I just clear this up, I bought Duff at 4.1 so if Duff rises to 4.3 tonight/tomorrow I still won't get an extra 0.1, correct?
He needs to rise to 4.4 before I get the price rise..?

you will get 0.1m if he goes to 4.3m. selling price will be 4.2m

click on transfers....then on data view above your team...it will show your selling price for each player

You will get .1 as your value would have increased from 4.1 to 4.2

    So basically, it's either:

    A) Baines & Fabregas
    B) Moreno & Alexis

While there might not be much between Fab and Alexis, I think Baines is a much better option than Moreno and ultimately that swings it to A) for me.

Aguero as city are at home and they generally score a few at home, chelsea away to palace who don't concede many at home
