Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Arsenal
Jack Wilshere was forced off with a knee problem in the weekend draw with Hull. Post-match, though, Arsene Wenger allayed fears over the midfielder’s fitness by insisting he’ll be available to play in the midweek Champions League encounter against Benfica.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker deputised for the injured Philippe Senderos away to Everton but was forced off after sustaining a “pretty bad” hamstring injury, Paul Lambert has confirmed. The Villa boss has since revealed he is optimistic that Senderos will return for next Monday’s trip to QPR.

Crystal Palace
The club’s official match report confirmed midfielder James McArthur was withdrawn just before the hour-mark after picking up a muscle injury in the narrow home loss to Chelsea.

Hull
Nikica Jelavic is set for scans later today after sustaining a twisted knee during the warm-up prior to the Tigers’ draw at Arsenal. Elsewhere, Steve Bruce has concerns at the back – the Hull boss revealed keeper Steve Harper was forced off with a damaged muscle in his arm, whilst Michael Dawson also had to be replaced at the Emirates after picking up a late injury. Speaking to the club’s official website, Bruce explained:

“Jelavic has unfortunately twisted his knee and he will have a scan on Monday. Dawson has an ankle problem and Harper looks as if he has ruptured his bicep, which is a horrible injury. We are probably going to have to recall Mark Oxley from his loan spell at Hibernian.”

Liverpool
Daniel Sturridge was missing yet again as the Reds squeezed past QPR at Loftus Road yesterday. After the 3-2 win, Brendan Rodgers rolled out an update on the injured striker, who has now failed to feature since Gameweek 3 for the Merseysiders:

“’He was returning from his thigh injury and medically everything was fine with that. Then, on his very first morning, he was jogging around the pitch in the warm-up – there was no action, no striking of a ball. He was jogging around the field and then in the actual warm-up, he felt his calf a little tight. The scan shows that there is a little bit of damage in his calf. So the medical team tell me it’s probably between two to four weeks, which is a huge disappointment for us. But we have enough players now.”

Manchester City
Frank Lampard was stretchered off within half an hour of City’s home win over Spurs with a muscle injury. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed after the match that the midfielder will miss tomorrow’s Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow. Pablo Zabaleta was omitted from the squad entirely but this was purely down to rest – he’s travelled to Russia and is expected to start tomorrow.

Newcastle
Paul Dummett was withdrawn after 72 minutes of the weekend win over Leicester after suffering a recurrence of the hamstring problem which forced him out of international duties. Mike Williamson missed out altogether due to injury, the Magpies have confirmed. Cheick Tiote was forced out of the Magpies’ starting XI after picking up a knock during the pre-match warm-up.

QPR
Rob Green missed yesterday’s clash with Liverpool due to illness, allowing Alex McCarthy his first start of the season. Elsewhere at the back, Nedum Onouha was replaced at the break against the Reds after picking up a hamstring injury. Sandro was also replaced midway through the second period after picking up an injury, according to the club’s official Twitter stream.

Stoke
Reports suggest Victor Moses was subbed off midway through the second  half of yesterday’s win over Swansea due to injury. Phil Bardsley picked up a knock late on but, with the home side having made all three substitutions, stayed on the field.

Swansea
Defender Ashley Richards missed the trip to Stoke due to injury.

West Ham
James Tomkins was sidelined for the weekend win at Burnley after picking up a thigh problem, whilst Mauro Zarate also missed the match due to a minor knee problem.

I have 2 FT's. What do you guys think of my following plan?

    1. Wanyama out - Obertan in
    2. Silva out - Tadic in
    3. Costa out - Aguero in.

Is this plan worth taking a 4 point hit?

With Clyne and Pellé I want Tadic to be my third Southampton-player
so that's why I'd nee to change Wanyama. Not sure about replacing him
    with Obertan though.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

i wouldnt do a hit to bring in a player you not even gonna play. can you afford costa to aguero if you just do wanyama to obertan?

No, that's the problem. I have 0,5M in funds and Obertan is 0,1M cheaper than Wanyama. 0,6M in total and I need 1,3M for getting Aguero instead of Costa..

Why wanyama to obertan? They're the same price right? Or no?

I can't bring Tadic in with Clyne, Pellé and Wanyama already in my team. Wanyama looks the obvious choice to replace of this three I think. Don't know if my plan is smart though.

In order to get Aguero, I need more funds. Now I have 0,5M, but I should have 1,3M. That's why Silva to Tadic looked a great option.

Don't know if there are many other midfielders in the lower price bracket that can even Tadic' return in points? He's also an upgrade on Silva right now.

At the moment I have Di Maria, Sterling, Chadli, Silva and Wanyama as my midfielders.

I'm sure many are stuck with the following dilemma.....

Own three excellent FPL strikers - Pelle, Welbeck and Costa (with value stored).

    Really want Aguero.

    Four excellent strikers. Three spaces.

What do you do? And when? 😕

        This.

If you've owned Costa from the start (10.5) & he sits .7mil up (11.2) then you can take a .1mil drop & not *actually* experience any effect on his selling price.

          • 12 Years

This is me. But Aguero's won't stay this price for long. I take your point though.. waiting is an option.

I have Falcao instead of Welbeck but I'm tempted to just not bother with Aguero if Costa's injury isn't serious.

No brainer for you. Falcao out. (In my opinion!) 😛

Falcao's pretty much guaranteed to play and could be as prolific as Aguero once he gets used to the PL.

Aguero's more likely to be rested due to the key CL matches Man City have coming up. Also Aguero's gonna get injured tomorrow night.

            • 12 Years
            11 years, 4 months ago

I agree Falcao will be a top pick, but not quite yet for me.

Agreed on Aguero... a cold, cold night in Moscow! 😛

Work out how much Aguero will rise and Costa drop...probably a 0.3 swing at least in the difference between the two right now...then flog Aguero back for Costa if that's still who you want. Worst possible case scenario is you end up with Aguero instead of Costa...no problem...

        • 12 Years
        11 years, 4 months ago

Very tempted by this... and then by the time I want Costa back, I wont want Pelle for much longer? 😕 The only spanner is Costa vs QPR?

This is the thing. If I get Aguero, I'll be keeping him for weeks and weeks... probably until the Jan WC............. fitness permitting. 😉

But to be fair, he seems to have found his fitness at last. 🙂

Find a way to do costa to aguero asap whether he fit enough imo ....pelle and welbek amazing value with fixtures could easily keep pace with costa in short term, but costa wont keep pace with aguero, aguero will outscore him by some distance imo with more goals assists and bps as he is the far more dynamic player imo a goal poacher like costa but far more dynamic beyond that.

    Forster - Foster
    Cahill - Naylor - PvA - Coloccini - Wisdom

Costa is out for the Maribor match and is doubtful for the Man Utd match, but it's hard to know http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/oct/18/chelsea-diego-costa-manchester-united

I think Aguero, Pellé, Tadic, Bertrand and Baines rose while Ulloa and Lovren fell.

    Mannone Krul
    Baines Clyne Vlaar Wisdom Naylor
    Fabregas Hendo Siggy Sterling Marney
    Aguero Costa Naismith

Have 1 FT and 3.5 in the bank

    What should I do?
Thinking of doing Naismith to Welbeck
Should I do it now or wait (because of Costas injury concern) or do you have any better idea?

Just a word of warning...we are all assuming Mourinho is playing mind games with some sort of fictitious injury...what if he's not ?...Aguero could be edging towards 13.0 by the time we realise and Costa might only have 10.6/10.7 of selling value...That's an awful lot to find.

I think those who don't have Aguero can make a good case for making a swap (Even if Costa does turn out to be healthy) but surely you have to wait until after the Champions' League fixtures?

If he survives mid week I think Aguero in for Costa is a good move.

I can't see any alternative...Aguero > Costa is easy then if that's who folk really want...Tje other way around could become a real problem.

Right, how the hell do I get Aguero into this team?

    3.7m in the bank

    Bego/Myhill
    Terry/Bertrand/PVA/Hutton/Chester
    ADM/Siggy/Sterling/Fab/Chadli
    Costa/Pelle/Vardy

Pelle/Fab -> Tadic/Aguero works but I'd rather get rid of Vardy but...
    Vardy/Fab -> Aguero/Downing is .1 too expensive.

Could downgrade Terry too, but then I'm heading into -8 territory.
