Yesterday we rolled out the first installment of our weekly perusal of the fixture list, shining the spotlight on those teams with the easiest opponents over the next four-to-six Gameweeks. Today we turn the tables and expose their luckless brethren with poor looking schedules to follow. We see that Man United’s easy ride has come to an end, while a raft of mid-priced assets from the likes of Swansea and Sunderland could struggle to maintain their Fantasy value.

Man United

“frisking

After an uncomfortable night at The Hawthorns on Monday, Louis van Gaal’s side now face a much sterner test over the next four weeks – a home match against Chelsea is followed by trips to Man City and Arsenal before the fixtures take a turn for the better.

Certainly, anyone who has gambled on the United defence so far needs no persuasion from the fixtures to abandon ship, though Angel Di Maria is an altogether different proposition. Three goals and four assists in six Gameweeks tells a Fantasy fairy-tale, but after limping off against the Baggies to have his thigh packed in ice, we’re yet to hear a prognosis from Old Trafford, with his owners facing a real conundrum. Further up the field, Wayne Rooney sits out the final match of his suspension this week but again, once he’s back the fixtures don’t look ripe for investment. Robin Van Persie looks horribly out of form anyway, while Radamel Falcao owners will be looking for an exit route if Van Gaal continues with the 4-2-3-1 set-up which saw the Colombian afforded just 19 minutes off the bench against the Baggies.

Swansea

“frisking

In spite of some favourable recent fixtures, the Swans have now failed to win in any of the last five Gameweeks. After this week’s home clash with Leicester, the going gets tougher for a while, with three back-to-back fixtures against Everton, Arsenal and Man City looking a real test of their credentials.

With three clean sheets and an assist, Neil Taylor has been good value but these fixtures may cause some owners to consider their options. In midfield, Gylfi Sigurdsson has been extraordinary value but the popular Icelander – who has now blanked in four of the last five – may find himself shedding owners after this week has passed. Wilfried Bony, on the other hand, is on the up with goals in each of the last two and, in contrast to his team-mate, showed himself quite capable of scoring against all-comers last season. Even so, the wise path may still be to wait out these tough opponents before hitching one’s fortunes to the Ivorian’s wagon.

QPR

“frisking

Rooted to the bottom of the table after conceding at least twice in six of the last seven Gameweeks, Fantasy interest could barely be any lower in Harry Redknapp’s basement-dwellers, with only Steven Caulker finding a place in over 5% of FPL sides.

With the R’s now set to face Chelsea and City in the next three matches, the omens don’t look good and with playmaker Joey Barton and the likes of Jordon Mutch still injured in midfield, there’s little to suggest a turnaround could be on the cards. Eduardo Vargas’ brace off the bench against Liverpool may have caught the eye but realistically, few, if any, will be paying 6.4 for a QPR forward at a time when so many budget forwards are firing on all cylinders.

BE WARY OF

Sunderland
Recipients of a thoroughly humiliating thrashing from Southampton, the Black Cats could scarcely have picked a worse time to lose form as the next six Gameweeks hold some nasty looking home encounters with Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea and Man City. Such fixtures mean that it is probably time to part company with the likes of Patrick Van Aanholt and John O’Shea, whilst Vito Mannone owners will be also mulling over a transfer out, in spite of his security of save points. In terms of attackers, Steven Fletcher and Connor Wickham had started to show glimpses of form but these fixtures will deter all but the most optimistic investment.

Crystal Palace
All things considered, The Eagles have fared surprisingly well under Neil Warnock. They could do with a few more points on the board, though, and while there are a few opportunities to do so, the next four Gameweeks contain a trip to Old Trafford and the visit of Liverpool, which make investment in this team somewhat fraught. Robbed of their chief allure – clean sheets – by the departure of Tony Pulis, the defence hasn’t been as porous as some had feared but managers would be wise to wait a few weeks before investing in Julian Speroni or Martin Kelly, whilst Jason Puncheon’s goal scoring seems to have dried up for the time being. Fraizer Campbell, on the other hand ,has quietly racked up three goals in four appearances to make a mockery of his budget price tag, but that rate will surely slow down in the face of tougher opposition.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce’s side have been something of a revelation this season. The Hammers’ handful of new signings have helped deliver their manager’s promise of more attractive, attacking football and the impressive results see them sitting fourth in the league. In truth, their long term fixtures are excellent, but there are a couple of upcoming flies in the ointment which may deter immediate investment, as they host Man City this weekend and roll up to Goodison a few weeks later. It may be best to hold fire on the likes of Adrian and James Tomkins – providing he recovers from a groin problem – for their likely clean sheets, then, whilst Stewart Downing and Diafra Sakho’s appeal will surely be on the rise before long.

that's what I meant, if you sell him now and his price doesn't drop, it's only .3, if he does drop (which he would if he's out a while) then it's less

Keep in mind that most of the people transferring Costa out for aguero are the ones who monitor prices and players during the week. The vast majority will make their moves on Friday night, when we could see an even greater flood of sales than the 120k who have sold Costa so far.

Think Costa sellers will be a lot more trigger happy if no more clarity by the weekend, think 0.2 this week is more than likely. I think we will see more of a shift the closer he gets to the drop to, selling at 11.1 before 11 means it will only cost 0.2 to buy back (not assuming further drops) making it more palatable to potential sellers

Yeah, plus whoever you buy - whether its Pelle, Aguero, or Berahino - should see price rises too that should off-set the trade-value loss on Costa, meaning that you probably only lose 0.1 or max 0.2. Worth it.

I own the first two already and missed the first rise with Berahino unfortunately but agreed with Costa in over 60% of teams that reinvested money has to be spent somewhere, catch that and buying him back (financially) may not be that bad.

Thanks for that. Great comment Shadow!

No thoughts on Rose? More of an attacking option plus points down the back?

If its still unclear my 1 ft will be Costa> Berahino
Next week will be to either reverse the move or Siggy > Hazard with the cash
Thoughts ? (Have Aguero, team is linked )

Seems good, If Costa is fit its back to Square 1, if still unsure you get Haz for QPR and get out of Siggy bad form fixtures

Lukaku is still a good option, i would have got Pelle no question but already 3 saints, and Berahino allows the Siggy>Haz option next week if Costa still unfit, where with Lukaku your kinda stuck

If you have Fab i suppose Lukaku is decent, im thinking ahead to QPR, costa is my only Chelsea cover atm, so Berahino allows Costa or Haz next week

One plus side to keeping Costa: if it is a poor decision then at least it will resolve itself within a couple of weeks and without costing transfers or hits. I'm glad I'm not taking some of the -8 hits I've seen mentioned here....

Having second thoughts about selling Costa , may just give Boyd another run out. Selling sets up a very stressful week before the QPR game , and with Remy injured Costa much more likely to play in that one

Sell him with 1 FT but don't use the 2nd FT or the cash, then can bring him back for a hit and at most you've lost 0.1. Also means you don't have to play Boyd.

If you don't already have Aguero it's a pretty straightforward decision i think. The risks of selling Costa are worth taking. If you already have Aguero then it's tough to weigh up whether there is a punt worth taking. I don't think Welbeck, Berahino or Sakho are gonna be worth selling Costa for. Lukaku is the one i'm looking at mainly because Burnley are toilet

This is right. I already have Aguero + Pelle so there'd be far less of as gain for me in swapping out Costa . At this stage keepingg him becomes worth the risk as I should be able to keep in touch with rivals even if Costa doesn't play, whereas I have a big advantage if he does.

Strength of the bench comes into it too, you really need at least a semi-decent option if you're sticking with him.

He's a good player (rugby league) but you'd think it would be very difficult to learn a new sport and be competitive against guys that have played it their whole lives. It will be interesting to see. I hope he does well.

  22. CCaddy

Just a thought on the risk/ reward of transferring costa.

You could keep him in and he doesn't play for a couple of weeks and loses a bit of value. But if you plan to keep him for the full season this really doesn't matter! If you transfer him out you will inevitably take a short term hit either in getting him out or getting him back In, as it's unlikely that his injury will be long term.

Think about it this way. If you -4 the striker you transfer in will need to score and the bench player who you could have played instead will need to blank and costa will have to miss out to justify the transfer. If your bench play in a bad scenario only gets 2 points, he will still have a +6 handicap over the transferred striker.

Costa could then return for the qpr game and you'd need to use more points to get him back in.

Makes sense to me, but most people just follow the pack and panic sell (or buy) without really thinking about the consequences for the long term.

But at the same time its a chance to gain rank against the teams who have 11m spent on Costa who may not play and at 50% ownership if you pick a good replacement then it will surely result in a surge in the rankings. Lots of striker options too, so the advantage of having 3 strikers over 11m on the bench seems like a good short term move. Plan B is get him back for -4, but if he misses the next two games then it will pay off.

The problem with trying to gain on people with Costa on their team is that you're dealing with Mourhino. For all we know Costa will play this weekend and possibly score a hat trick. Not only will you miss out on his surprise appearance, but now you've fallen behind those with Costa and you will have to get him in this burning another move, possibly taking a -4 and falling even further.

It's tricky....especially when dealing with Jose.

We don't have this problem in US sports. If you go to this much trouble to conceal an injury, it's assumed somebody will be using inside information to make a killing at the bookies, so all leagues require more transparency on injuries.

I agree TL. The way I'm dealing with it is to make sure you have Aguero and Pelle, arguable the other 2 biggest hitters for strikers right now and hold Costa. If your team is built correctly, you can weather the storm fir a week or two more. IMHO

Main problem is that low-life Mourinho. He's got the morals & conscience of a cheese sandwich and has climbed so far up his own erse he really doesn't see what a self indulgent and appallingly rude & disrespectful twat he's become.

I'd want to see Barkley play a few more games before he rises above Siggy. Think Eriksen and Sterling are very close, Sterling will probably grab a few more points but not enough to be worth the extra 1m or so.

When do subs for UCL fantasy get processed? I didn't touch my team this week and have 21 points benched... last week I had 6 points at 1st sub that didn't automate when Moreno should have dropped out.

Has anyone else had issues with points from auto-subs? 3rd week in a row that my subs haven't been added...

Need help with my team for this week.

Have 2 FT's and 1.6m in the bank

    Bego - (Krul)
    Baines - Clyne - Moreno - (Taylor - Duff)
    Schniderlin - ADM? - Sterling - Siggy - (King)
    Aguero(c) - Sahko - Costa?

    My problems:
Costa and ADM may be out?
City play West Ham. So Sahko's chances of scoring are low this week, which leaves me with 1 reliable striker.

What transfers would you make? If any
