Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

A four-goal blitz against Tottenham last time around has ensured Sergio Aguero is this week’s runaway leader, with almost 50% of the votes cast. Up to nine goals for the season, the Man City forward has netted in six of his eight appearances so far, and up against a West Ham side with a single shut-out all season (at home to QPR), Aguero has already risen 0.2 in price heading into the weekend deadline.

Graziano Pelle is some way back in second spot. The Southampton striker has earned just under 16% of votes cast as he prepares for the visit of Stoke – bearing in mind his last three appearances at St Mary’s have returned 13, 9 and 15 points in the FPL game, though, the Italian looks a viable option. Team-mate Dusan Tadic earns 4% of votes after serving up a goal and four assists at home to Sunderland – the playmaker has now produced 34 points in the last three in front of his own supporters.

Diego Costa remains in contention for the league leaders’ trip to Old Trafford. Only 4% are considering the Chelsea forward with the armband due to Jose Mourinho’s mind games, but if given the chance against United’s dodgy defence, he has to be considered, having netted in all but one of his seven appearances.

Raheem Sterling is an armband option for some as Liverpool prepare for a home clash with Hull. Having scored or assisted in five of his seven starts, the youngster has remained a consistent option – after moving to the lone forward role against Real Madrid in midweek, he’s persuaded 3% of Fantasy managers to hand him the captaincy. Gylfi Sigurdsson is similarly backed for Swansea’s home encounter with Leicester, though is struggling for form, having blanked in four of the last five.

Further down, Arsenal and Spurs are overlooked ahead of enticing showdowns with Sunderland and Newcastle. Danny Welbeck (3% of votes) and Alexis Sanchez (1%) face a Black Cats backline that shipped eight to Southampton last weekend, whilst Christian Eriksen (1%) and Nacer Chadli (0.8%) will be looking to take advantage of a Magpies defence that have kept out their opponents just once in the last six.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anybody got one eye on the Roonster ?..2 goals and 2 assists in his last three (one of which was reduced due to his sending off)..isn't too shabby.
United have three home games in four coming up in a run of CPL ars HULL STOKE..any takers ?

Aye..I have a feeling this Costa thing is going to be a regular feature...great player or not..He's been injured going right back into last season...I might do Roonster for the solidity and fixtures after the next two (dovetails nicely with Pelle)

Costa could end up being a little like Aguero last year. You want him in and scores when playing, but you end up losing points doing the transfer hokey-cokey.

I have 318 with a strong team. 326 sounds great.

I don't read to much into those values though tbh, as I manipulate them with FT's to find better fixtures anyways. Anything between 53-55 for a GW is pretty good though

mourinho knows the next few months are vital, big christmas period coming up and he needs costa to have a rest now

until I know he is out long term then yes. I strongly believe mourinho is resting him mainly due to costa feeling tightness. Yes, he had a bug but the tightness needs a few weeks rest and I think he may get another week rest off this week but will be back for qpr

    Costa, Kun, Berahino.

    Milner, Mahrez, Duff. (Mannone)

    Was thinking maybe either:

    A) AdM to Sanchez
    B) Forster to Howard, Costa to Pelle (-4)
    C) Nothing. If Costa/AdM don't play, then got a decent bench.

Correct. Tough decision as they want him to develop and play but also they knew Sturridge would miss his fair share of games. He seems like the closest thing to Sturridge they have in their stable with his pace and movement. They would look a lot better with him in there instead of Balo I think.

10.8 is a lot of money to have sitting idle in your team for any prolonged period of time. If he looks like he may only miss Utd then I'll probably keep. An injury prognosis any longer than that then he's gone from my team.

If he drops 0.5. Then he's probably missed at least 2 GW's...on top of the last one.

      Keeping.
If he plays he'll demolish Utd.
If not he'll be back in time to tear QPR a new arse.

Only one I would replace Costa with for more than one week, is Aguero.
But already got him and looking forward to have both next GW.
