Charlie Austin grabs both goals and Eduardo Vargas bags an assist as QPR see off Villa 2-0 at Loftus Road. Paul Lambert’s side fail to score for the fifth successive league match as popular budget option Alan Hutton misses out with an ankle complaint.

Austin at the Double
The R’s frontman was partnered by Bobby Zamora and scored twice as Harry Redknapp’s side climbed off the bottom with a vital home win over Villa. Owned by just 0.3% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers heading into last night’s encounter, Austin’s brace underlined how increasingly influential he’s becoming in recent matches – that’s three goals and an assist in his last four, compared to a single strike in the first five Gameweeks. With back-to-back showdowns against Chelsea and City in the next two, it’s fair to say few will be looking at the R’s right now, but with Newcastle, Leicester, Swansea and Burnley from Gameweek 12 onwards, the 5.7-priced Austin may yet persuade some he could be worthy of the outlay.

Vargas in the Points Once More
Having emerged from the bench to notch twice against Liverpool, the Chilean was handed a starting role on the right last night before moving up top in light of Zamora’s withdrawal. After teeing up Austin for the second, Vargas took his tally to two goals and a pair of assists in his last three appearances, but at 6.4, few will be willing to consider him over Austin, given that the latter also has spot-kick duties to bolster his appeal.

Ferdinand Benched Again
The centre-half was a sub against Liverpool last time around after sustaining a minor groin problem prior to the match. Despite his availability for last night’s encounter, Redknapp continued with Richard Dunne alongside Steven Caulker and was rewarded with a second clean sheet of the season, suggesting Ferdinand’s pitch time is in real danger, with his 4% of FPL owners looking for a way out.

Another Blank for Villa
The signs look ominous for the Midlands outfit after they failed to score for the fifth successive Gameweek last night. To some extent, it was understandable that Paul Lambert’s side had drawn blanks against Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Everton but hopes were high of a turnaround at Loftus Road, given that their hosts had conceded at least twice in six of the previous seven. Christian Benteke and co. once again failed to impress, and with Spurs, West Ham and Southampton in the next three, Fantasy faith in Villa’s main men is unlikely to pick up anytime soon.

Hutton Worry for Lambert
An ever-present over the first eight Gameweeks for Villa, the right-back was sidelined due to an ankle problem last night. Hutton is the most popular cut-price defender in the FPL game – now up to 4.2, he currently sits in over 13% of sides after serving up three clean sheets in the first four. Having conceded 13 goals and earned his owners four points in the subsequent five, a possible spell on the sidelines could be the ideal opportunity to part company with the Scot as Villa’s toils continue.

    Toying around with the idea of getting a front 8 like this in a couple of weeks.. including Baines and a 5.2m defender, the rest would be 4-4.5..

        Unless his hamstring gets a 100% healthy status with no worries for the future, and he starts scoring more than 1 goal and get more than 0 bonus points relatively often, I will try to avoid..

    Thinking of bringing Sanchez in, already have Welbeck. So which one would you prefer?

    A) Sterling + Moreno --> Sanchez + Tomkins
    B) Sterling + Siggy --> Sanchez + Downing
    C) Sterling + Welbeck --> Sanchez + Valencia/Sakho

        If you've got Cesc, no need to take a hit for Hazard IMO. Those of us who got Hazard instead of Cesc in GW1 are left ruing that mistake.I've cut my loseswith Hazard and sticking with ADM.

            Well....when you put it like that.

            But I guess it's all about perception. It was agonizing owning Hazard and watching Cesc seemingly get an assist every gameweek. Come the end of the season, Hazard could very well prove the superior player but the difficulty is balancing patience with the need to earn points now.

      I think all three of them have the potential to have explosive GWs - just depends on form, fixtures, and prices(who you have to sacrifice) as to who you play for a spell of games.

      I'm planning Clyne > Azpilicueta, unless Filipe Luis keeps that spot, in which case I'll keep the change. Bertrand will either go from a weekly starter to a bench/rotation player, or be downgraded to free up funds elsewhere. Don't have any attackers.

    Alright, got a few questions that I could use answering over this lunch break...

    1) Mannone will probably be dropped, should I switch, and if so to whom?
    2) Should Falcao be my other priority to get rid of? Is the best idea to wait on Costa's fitness and do a straight swap?

    Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Team is:
    Mannone (McCarthy)
    Clyne Bertrand Chambers (Hutton Moore)
    ADM Silva Sterling Siggy (Boyd)
    Aguero Falcao Welbeck

      cheers all. i was giving northern ireland's S Davis a 2nd look, given he's nailed in that midfield along w/ Schneiderlin. that 3rd mid spot in midfield, is btn wanyama and cork it seems.

      It seemed to me S Davis playing slightly more in front than Schneiderlin, more offensive minded,given sou in form state, could be great value at 4.8, no?

      Jedi is in pens so slight edge there, but a weaker team. boyd's team just cannot score for the life of them, even tho hes offensive mid. Moses starts are erratic. Diame tough fxitures but in form, maybe he can defy the fixtures. Obertan might loose spot it seems to Cabella.

    Thinking of holding onto my FT this week....what do you reckon? 2FT next week seems more valuable than anything I could potentially do this week.

    Krul
    Baines - Clyne - Chambers
    Sterling - Fabregas - ADM - Siggy
    Costa - Pelle - Welbeck

    Green - Chester - Boyd - Jones

    1FT and 0.6m in the bank.

      Have a shockingly similar team and in the same place. My plan was to dump Siggy or Sterling but there was no one that jumped out this past weekend as a 'must have'.

      Was thinking Mane, but feels like I am a week late on that one.

      Patience always seems to pay-off...

        Absolutely, patience......Sterling and Siggy are both good picks and I'm happy to hold onto them.

        Jones is the other obvious immediate problem for me, but my defence is solid this week so happy to wait and see what I can do next week with 2 moves in my pocket.

      Yeah, the only way to improve the team significantly would be to get Aguero, and that would mean to take a hit etc, so I'd save FT

      Nice team Dr,
      Lacks Aguero but IMO v hard to have Baines/Costa/Aguero/Pelle.

      Thanks All.

      Aguero is the big name missing of course, but I'm not close to being able to get him without a WC or major hit.

      Gonna hold for sure now pending injury news of course.

    Is it time to ship out Milner?

    A) Sterling + Jags -----> Sanchez + Bruce (-4)
    B) Sterling + Jags + Milner ----> S.Ameobi + Chambers + Sanchez (-8)

    leaning towards A

      Benched for Navas, Nasri to come back... I'd probably get rid, unless he's a bench player for you. Not keen on Sammy Ameobi, has done well off the bench, but far from guaranteed a long run in the side.

              Guzan (Krul)
              Baines Clyne Wisdom (PVA , Dummet)
              Di Maria , Schneiderlin , Siggy , Sterling (Cattermole)

    Want to get rid of Siggy as upcoming fixtures aren't too good. Don't really want Tadic as I'm looking for a differential.

    Should I:

    A) Get Eriksen ( I know spurs are playing crap but he's looked quite lively)
    B) Get Mane (also looked lively very low ownership)
    C) Forget the differential and just go with Tadic
    D) Keep Siggy

    Thanks - any other suggestions welcome

    Are rats fleeing from the good-ship Sigurdsson this GW? Was always my plan and the groin niggle (though he says it is okay) almost cements that move.

    Liking the look of Mane as a differential. Stats show Tadic as better, but watching them both for the last few weeks Mane just looks more dangerous. Lots of off-side calls that once he gets his timing right will be goals.

    Steering clear of Spurs (Chadli, Eriksen) and Downing for the moment, I think.
