There’s no shortage of topics for us to monitor ahead of this weekend’s fixtures. Diego Costa’s expected return for Chelsea, Wayne Rooney’s effect on the United formation, Arsenal’s midfield set-up against Burnley and Liverpool’s much-maligned frontman are all amongst this lunchtime’s menu.

Costa’s recovery…
Back in training yesterday, the omens look good for a return to action at home to QPR. With Didier Drogba playing all but 16 minutes of Chelsea’s last three matches over the last week or so and Loic Remy still injured, Jose Mourinho has even been candid enough to admit Costa is likely to feature against the R’s. It remains to be seen just how many minutes his manager will afford the Spain international but, having scored in each of his four home appearances, he may well be given enough time to wreak havoc against a backline that has conceded more away goals than any other team so far.

Martinez’ use of Ross Barkley…
After starting back-to-back matches in all competitions upon his return from injury, the Everton youngster was utilised as a second-half sub in last weekend’s win over Burnley. With Samuel Eto’o staking a claim for more minutes by bagging a brace, though, Roberto Martinez has decisions to make as the Toffees entertain Swansea, with the Cameroon international potentially restricting the minutes of Barkley or Romelu Lukaku, as evidenced by last week.

Kane’s opportunities at Villa…
It’s eight goals in 12 appearances now for the Tottenham youngster after he struck in last night’s cup win over Brighton. Despite his side’s toils up top – just six strikes in the last seven Gameweeks – Kane has been used sparingly by Mauricio Pochettino in the league, with Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor handed a start apiece in the last two Gameweeks. Given his form, though, it seems a matter of time before he’s finally entrusted with a first league start – at 4.8 in FPL, we’re keeping an eye on his pitch time as the north London side roll up to Villa Park.

Aarons and Obertan as budget prospects…
Back-to-back wins at Spurs and City will have filled Newcastle with confidence ahead of the weekend home encounter against Liverpool. The Reds’ porous backline looks there for the taking right now and with the fixtures improving after this one, Newcastle’s budget wide men have the chance to stake a claim for our attention. Obertan has a goal and an assist in the last three now, whilst Aarons notched on his comeback at the Etihad last night – more of the same and they may well find themselves on our watchlists.

Balotelli’s reaction at St James’ Park…
Emerging from the bench to notch against Swansea in the cup, the Italian relieved some of the pressure after a woeful start to life on Merseyside. Nonetheless, Balotelli is still awaiting that first league goal and with Daniel Sturridge still injured, he looks set to lead the line at St James’ Park again – will his midweek strike against the Swans be the shot in the arm his season needs?

Wenger’s shuffle of his midfield assets..
A 2-0 win at Sunderland brought Arsenal a second clean sheet of the season last weekend. On both occasions, Arsene Wenger has moved away from his 4-1-4-1 formation and utilised a 4-2-3-1 – last weekend saw Alexis Sanchez benefit from the central role behind Danny Welbeck to fire both his side’s goals. With Aaron Ramsey set to return to the starting XI against Burnley, though, Wenger must decide whether to utilise the Welshman in the double-pivot and allow Sanchez to retain his position through the middle or move the summer signing back to the flank against the Clarets, thus allowing Ramsey more freedom to bomb forward and join in his side’s attacks.

The United shuffle on Rooney’s return…
Available after a three-match suspension, the United skipper is expected to shake off a foot problem in time for Sunday’s derby trip to the Etihad. In Rooney’s absence, Louis van Gaal has moved away from a midfield diamond and switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation, with the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj earning increased pitch time. With Radamel Falcao also in line to recover from injury, though, Van Gaal has options aplenty – West Ham caused City problems aplenty with a 4-2-3-1 last weekend and the Red Devils’ boss could well retain his recent system, with Falcao and Juan Mata on bench-warming duties.

Zaha’s return as a mid-price differential…
After grabbing an assist off the bench against Chelsea in Gameweek 8, the on-loan youngster seems to have finally convinced Neil Warnock he’s worthy of a starting role. Zaha ousted Jason Puncheon from the Palace XI for last week’s clash with West Brom and looks poised to keep his place out wide at home to Sunderland this Saturday. Certainly, the situation is worth monitoring for now – Zaha is ineligible to face parent club United in Gameweek 11 but if he turns on the style against the Black Cats, at 5.3 he could be worth considering after the next international break is out of the way.

I did a comparison on Siggy GW1-4 vs GW5-9 and the score slightly favoured his recent performances. But look at shots and the downturn is obvious. Even so, 6.4m is cheap.

How about a bold predictions thread?

Players you think people will actually consider getting into their team in a month that noone even thinks about now, players that are in half the teams now that will stop getting points, goalkeepers that suddenly gets alot of clean sheets etc.. Could be fun to look back at come christmas..

I'll start: Many will swap out Pelle/Welbeck with Balotelli a month from now

Have had a full week off before Burnley. Defence is very light so no real rotation there. Welbeck to start as no real alternatives, and sanchez is arsenal's best player atm.

Apparently he's been playing poorly lately and Kane is obviously waiting for his first premier league start.

Also his stats have deteriorated quite a bit from gw 2-5 to 6-9. Playing quite a bit deeper, fewer shots.

    Considering shipping him.

I got him last week for Nathan Dyer, which now seems a bit like swopping pneumonia for Legionnaires disease.

Trouble is, if I sell him I only have £7.2m to play with.

I`m no longer an owner, was thinking about getting him back....but everyone I know either has chadli or erikssen.
so I took a punt on mason, which helped me afford sanchez.

I think kane deserves a start, but I suspect chadli might be moved to the right, but the manager seems to be a lamela backer.

don`t be worried yet until the Europa game,if chadli or lamela starts and kane does not, then maybe he`ll(kane) start next league game

So every weekend afternoon (and occasionally Monday evenings) since the middle of August, I have walked to my preferred coffee shop (one of the famous chains), and enjoyed a delicious beverage. Everything was rosy, I was enjoying the service and product.

Problem is, in late September, the shop closed unexpectedly due to a problem with some equipment in the cafe. Originally, there was a notice on the door from the café manager saying that this was only temporary. However, a couple of weeks passed and still the shop was closed. I rang the National head office to find out more, and they were unaware that there was an equipment fault and saw no reason why the café was closed.

A couple more weeks passed, and an updated notice on the café door was provided last Friday, which suggested that the café might be open. So, I toddled along at around 4pm on Sunday, but was disappointed to find the establishment still closed - particularly as I ended up having a tepid tasteless replacement cuppa at a cheap place on the way back home.

A further notice was pinned yesterday that stated that there was a good chance that the café would be open – a neighbour also told me he looked through the window and could see that the faulty equipment had indeed been repaired.

So my quandary is that I have a loyalty card for my usual place that is nearly complete, so I am somewhat tied into continuing to purchase steaming hot beverages from them. However, I know there is a smaller café round the corner run by a tall Italian chap called Graziano that also has a loyalty scheme. My suspicion is that the coffee in this smaller outlet, although good, will not be of as consistently high quality as the original place, but at least that place seems to be consistently open.

Any ideas on what I should do?

(ok, so it’s not Animal Farm….)

I think you may be over-rating the quality and more importantly the consistency of the chain's coffee. The smaller cafe sounds like it might be the real deal and possibly much cheaper per cup! (thus allowing you funds to purchase a much nicer cake to go along with your coffee.)

Hey guys hoping for some advise on how much game time people think Barkley will get against Swansea. Have Chambers on the bench and thinking if Barkley will only come off the bench its best to give Chambers a start against Burnley.

I'm and arsenal fan and he also has the much better fixture especially when City just lost to the Hammers and Newcastle would not be surprised if united shock city and win but then again city could destroy the terrible united defense all depends on what Pelle does if he plays 2 up front at the weekend they are done for the need to play Aguero up tool in his own and he needs to start Milner who has been one of their best players recently

Imo if Sanchez plays in the hole against Burnley then he'd get similar returns, or better, as last last week. I'm not too sure about Aguero(c) and wasn't last week either. #gut choice always prevails.

Also, if you take out the spurs game then that leaves kun with 1 goal in 3 app(Liv,sto, che) at home. Hardly great.

This may truly be a daft idea... but has anyone ever tried to play FPL for the lowest possible score? FPL lowball if you like.

I know we have a dead team league and other variations of the game, but can you imagine trying to pick players that get 1's or 2's and even - (negative) scores - red cards, missed penalties etc?

Only able to use your FT once a week or two if you have them saved, maybe a rule on having to pick players that at least started a certain number of games (so you dont pick non starters and consistently get 0 points) - I don't have a real idea around the rules right now, but just the concept intrigues me.

If this is just my own warped idea of 'fun" - please don't ridicule me too much, I draw a line at insults directed at my mum.

I would do it if you got points for being bad. Like, if Caulker scored an own goal while the defense gave up four points, he would get 10 points. I set up a league last year in this Unfantasy format just to keep track. It works best with defender and goalkeepers but it's not than fun with midfielders and forwards.

        Begovic

Baines - Bertrand - Moreno (Haidara - Bartley)

Sterling - ADM - Tadic - Sigs (Zaha)

        Kun - Pelle - Welbs

Worth an 8 point hit to do Sterling, Tadic, Haidara >> Mane, Hazard, Yun???

        HELP???

It's almost never worth 8 points, 4 maybe with a bit of planning you can get who you want in in two weeks

        Good grief!

Just noticed that Rob Green has as many points as Begovic and more points this season than Szczesney, Adrian, Krul and Howard.

        Weird!

            Bonus points too, bless him.

2 CS and Baps is not bad for £4.5m keeper really. Like ADDS04 said below, this is why you don't need to spend tons on a keeper.

I'm just playing Foster every week these days, I can't even be bothered to rotate with Schmeichel anymore.

That's why I never spend money on a keeper!
