Gameweek 10 begins at St James’ Park for a fixture that, a few weeks back, would have looked decidedly one-sided. Today, however, Newcastle host Liverpool off the back of two unlikely away wins at Spurs and Man City, while the visitors limp to the North East nursing indifferent form and fragile confidence.

Bizarrely, the match will be compelling viewing for all the wrong reasons. Many will want an uneventful encounter, with little or no contribution from Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling. Having suffered heavy sales going into today’s Fantasy Premier League deadline, the 19-year-old will undoubtedly provide the biggest threat to a Magpies rearguard that, despite recent form, has failed to convince. Sterling is without a goal in his last four outings and many Fantasy managers will be hoping that run is extended further, watching today’s match from behind the sofa.

The early kick-off is followed by six three o-clock encounters: sadly, we’re without a tea-time clash to see us into Strictly this evening.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just logged in on the 7th page so apologies if this has been covered:

Newcastle started the match with three 4.4 midfielders, plus a 4.0 and 3.9 defender. Is this some kind of FF record?

Suppose all the "LOL @Sterling sellers" have had their mouth shut. Liverpool and Sterling look nothing like scoring, and this has been the trend for a long while. And i say this with a kind eye, as i am indeed a fan of the club. We`re just way off our game, assuming we even have a game at this point.

I said it a few weeks ago, when people were suggesting kind fixtures for Liverpool, tasty fixtures don't equate to points when the team your investing in is playing awful.

I'm in the opposite position, I'm a Utd fan but have been keeping patience with Sterling. I thought this game against Newcastle would be just what Raheem needed to redeem himself. It's not looking good though...

The formation leaves so much to be desired. Balotelli is quite useless as a lone striker (yes i know most people on here despise him anyway), but this way we`re all clumped up in the middle, and at the same time have nobody in the box. Actually quite surprised that Borini hasn`t gotten more gametime, even with the obvious desire to relieve him of duty. Sterling/Liverpool have decent fixtures, but the team and the player are in no form at all, and until Sturridge returns and the team shows some attacking prowess again, i`m staying clear of all Liverpool assets.

I think it's a bit ridiculous (the YC). He's done it for she's, he's done it for ages and never been pulled up. If the ref really doesn't like it then give him a warning.

      S. Taylor is a proper deuchebag, i assume very few people would object to that. Pretty sure he got a warning from the ref on the last FK, pull that sh*t again and you`ll get booked.

I can understand that it might not be the best game as a neutral, but as a toon fan I'm reasonably happy with that half. Defended well and limited Liverpool to just the single attempt in the whole half.

A few very promising free kicks and set pieces have been wasted, but on the whole, we have been more likely.

Good manager, but he's trying to get too fancy with this flexible formation depending on possession, reminds me of when Barca started doing it with 433 and 343 and it didn't improve them at all.

Looking more and more like the latter. How he's still persisting with Balotelli as a lone striker is bewildering.

Ofcourse not the latter. BR made Suarez into a world class player, which he was not before his arrival. He`s made some exellent signings and developed quite a few players into class acts from virtually "nothing". Everybody`s allowed a struggle, and he`s just finding his way.

Having Baines, Ivan, Costa and Aguero is hard on the value of the rest of my team, if I had to sacrifice one I think it would be Ivanovic.

    Anyone else in this position?!

I had Ivan and Terry for the Arsenal and CP games....getting rid of them freed up a lot of cash and improved my team vastly.

Yeh but not Ivan. He's due a couple of goals against team who will park the bus and not attack.

Hands up if you wish you'd taken a hit to dump Sterling

Depends on how the other players do. I would've brought in Eriksen, so if he blanks it's not that big a deal imo and I can just do it this week.

Already have Sanchez so there didn't seem much point in selling. If this slump continues I've no idea what my plan B is.

Surely Rodgers is going to move him forward/central for the second half.
