Sergio Aguero grabs the match-winner against United as City win a fourth straight Manchester derby. United’s worries at the back continue as injury and suspension hit Louis van Gaal’s side. Nacer Chadli grabs his fifth of the campaign and Harry Kane stakes a claim for a starting role as Spurs come from behind to get the better of Villa.

Aguero Wraps Up Win Against Rivals

Sergio Aguero took his tally to ten for the season with the winner against Man United in the Manchester derby. The Argentinian now has seven goals and eight bonus points from his last six appearances in a run of form that has seen him emerge as an ‘essential’ pick right now. Notably, the City striker’s goal yesterday came in a week that saw the likes of Diego Costa, Graziano Pelle and Saido Berahino all blank, allowing him to open up a five-point lead at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forward standings. Aguero still has ownership under 25%, though with City set to roll up to Loftus Road next weekend, that level of interest is surely set to increase over the coming week.

Derby Day Blues for United

The 1-0 loss to their local rivals was the first time in seven outings that United have failed to score, as Louis van Gaal’s start to life at Old Trafford continues to stutter. Angel Di Maria now has just one assist to show for his last three and has lost ownership in each of the last two Gameweeks, with the current of form of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez proving too tempting for many. However, United have three excellent home fixtures in their next four (CPL, HUL, STO) and Di Maria will have the chance to rediscover the form that saw him collect three double-figure hauls between Gameweeks 4 and 7.

Defensive Concerns Build for Red Devils

Attack is certainly likely to be the best form of defence for Van Gaal’s outfit, with their problems at the back showing no sign of abating. Rafael was injured in training prior to yesterday’s encounter, whilst Marcus Rojo dislocated his shoulder during the derby and is looks certain to miss the Crystal Palace clash this coming weekend, according to his manager. With Chris Smalling also suspended for that match after a catastrophic red card at the Etihad, and the likes of Jonny Evans and Phil Jones struggling with injury, Van Gaal is likely to have to stick with the partnership of Michael Carrick and Patrick McNair at centre back next weekend – it’s now no clean sheets in the last six for United, and a makeshift backline are sure to have their work cut out in turning that defensive form around.

Chadli and Kane Stun Villa

An inspiring comeback in the last ten minutes from Mauricio Pochettino’s side saw them clinch a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, with Nacer Chadli netting his fifth goal of the season and substitute Harry Kane scoring his seventh in his last seven appearances late on. With Erik Lamela sacrificed to the bench as Pochettino opted for a front two of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, and Cristian Eriksen hooked off at the break, Chadli looks the one regular Spurs player worth owning right now, as his eight-point haul at Villa Park took him up to fourth in the FPL midfield rankings. Kane, meanwhile, is yet to start a league match, though his manager has hinted post-match that he deserves more minutes. Spurs have decent fixtures ahead (STO, hul, EVE, che, CPL) and the 4.8-priced Kane may well be afforded further opportunities to show his capabilities across that schedule.

Villa Losing Streak Continues

Problems are mounting for Villa right now, who are without a win since Gameweek 4 and will now have to cope with star striker Cristian Benteke, who is suspended for the next three after being dismissed for violent conduct. Andreas Weimann scored his third of the season against Spurs – and his side’s first goal in 547 minutes of football. The schedule ahead is decent enough for the Austrian (whm, SOU, bur, cpl, LEI), but with morale so low amongst the Villa ranks, he is still unlikely to rival Diafra Sakho or Berahino for our affections in the budget forwards bracket.

Enner Valencia could be the next Sanchez.

Excellent fixtures going up to the Christmas period.

This should be a hot topic.

No idea if Sakho is going to play and not sure how Valencia compares. Downing looks good too but would upset my aim to get a midfield of Hazard, Sanchez, ADM and Siggy.

Sakho offers the best value for money based on price and threat. However, I sincerely hope that his shoulder injury doesn't effect his momentum. The big concern is Carroll working his way back to fitness. Of him and Valencia, I think it could well be Sakho who may make way but I sincerely hope not. Downing ibeing a mid is the most nailed.

Think I will go for Sakho, looking very good for the price and is an enabler for a quality midfield. Some good value up front and some great expensive midfield options.

Fitness news looking positive for Sakho:-

        1 of Downing/Sakho.

For me it'll be Sakho as a replacement for Berahino after international break. Would like Downing as a 5th mid but don't have the funds and don't want to lose Chadli as my 4th mid.

In essence, both should do well for as long as WHam remain on form, so the desicion lies with which player is easiest to lose out of your original line-up.

really hope sakho ulloas off the radar as it feels uncomfortable to be taken by surprise this much. even so it's a wave which looks like riding of those 3. just keep an eye that his little injury doesnt kill his momentum, i think that's a genuine possibility. long term though as long as he's starting every game this west ham team look to have goals as long as song is playing and carroll and nolan aren't

Sakho is in the form of his life, right places at the right time. Has a great desire to get on the end of crosses. He is likely to hit a run of poor form though.

Valencia can only seem to score great goals - no simple tap ins for him. He works the CBs ragged and creates the space for Sakho/Downing.

Downing is also in the form of his life. He is central to the majority of our attacks and if he was a little more composed he would have scored more this season. Is on some corners and free kicks.

As for FPL, I want both Downing and Sakho in my team. Valencia is great, but I'm not sure his returns will be as consistent as Downing's, and I'm hoping Sakho can keep to form for a few weeks more. Valencia is also the most expensive of the three.

    Lost on last page:

So, now that most people own Sanchez, what are you planning when Walcott is back? Can anyone enlighten us on what they think Wenger's first XI will be? I've been waiting for Walcott's return all season, but I really don't want to ditch Sanchez, and is doubling up on their midfield too much? Will they impact each other's game time?

The thought of Sanchez on one wing, Walcott on the other, and Ozil in the middle is mouthwatering, but Wenger's been talking about "balance", so he might be reluctant to play both.

    1. Irish Madridista ⭐
      • 15 Years

I'm getting in Walcott soon as I can't afford Sanchez so I'm rolling with zero Arsenal coverage at the moment but you'd have to think there will inevitably be some rotation going on at unexpected points throughout the season at the Emirates.

Impossible to say for now. Suddenly there is a new injury in the Arsenal team, which change the whole situation again.

IMO the smartest thing to do is wait until Walcott actually plays (starts) for a couple of GW's.
Maybe Wenger will ease him in, which could mean that he don't start him every match the next 5+ GW's.

Not owning Sanchez really hurt me over the last weeks especially this GW with Costa(C).
The offputting part was the rotation risk, really unsure about whether to get him now or risk Wally.
Having 2 FTs this week means I could manage either in.

I think Arsenal should play 4-3-3, with Sanchez, Welbeck and Walcott up front, Ozil as the central creative midfielder, and Ramsey and Flamini as the holding midfielders. But we'll have to see if Wenger actually does that or not!

ignoring until 2015. so many question marks over walcott, zero question marks over sanchez. with welbeck and chambers so cheap too i'd want walcott to be at least 2mil cheaper than sanchez to even consider.
found strachan's comments about falcao quite interesting on sunday morning, he said even when you return from that sort of injury he feels it takes 6-9 months to find your feet again. even though he looked fairly agile in his burnley cameo it will take a lot of convincing on theo

have an fpl crush on him too. it was a simple case of when fit you own for a good 2 or 3 seasons. the injury is the only factor, how theo looks and how much wenger plays him as a result

Been questioning this myself. I currently don't have Sanchez but do have Welbeck. This doesn't especially upset me as the balance in my team means I'm consistently scoring well, and indeed better than many of my Sanchez owning ML rivals. However, with Ramsey and Walcott (Giroud to follow) coming back I'm interested in how much game time many of the Arsenal forwards will get.

I can see Walcott, Ozil, Ramsey and Welbeck all getting rotational duties yet they all offer differential, cheaper options into the Arsenal frontline. I know Walcott is FF royalty in years past but if rotated how long will that continue? Ramsey and Walcott both offer cheap differentials into Arsenal attack.

Personally think the next couple of weeks will give us a glimpse into future line ups and game time without undue loss of points.

Left field shout here: Ozil to lose the most significant game time!

What to do with this team:

    Heaton (Mannone)
Clyne - Chambers - Baines (Wisdom - Duff)
Fab - ADM - Sanchez - Downing (Marney)
    Aguero - Pelle - Welbeck

1 FT and 0.7 in the bank.

    A) Welbeck -> ?

    C) Mannone -> ?
    D) SAVE

    Forster / Heaton
    Bertrand / Kaboul / Chambers / Duff / Moore
    Sanchez / Sterling / Eriksen / Sigurdsson / Boyd
    Aguero / Costa / Pellé

    1 FT, £0.0 ITB

Southampton have conceded 5 goals and kept 6 clean sheets in the first 10 games. They have faced just two of the 'top seven' though (Chelsea, Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and Spurs).

Last season, Southampton conceded 4 goals and kept 6 clean sheets in the first 10 games. They had also faced just two of those 'top seven' sides at this stage. However, from GW11, they failed to keep a clean sheet for 7 games in a row, managing only 2 CS in their thirteen matches from this point until the end of January.

It will be interesting to see if history continues to repeat itself...

That was due to a number of key players getting injured at the same time for Saints if I remember correctly, didn't Lovren, Clyne, Wanyama and Schneiderlinn have problems around that period?

Saints went shaky for a bit, but it wasn't due to the fixtures.

Lovren and Schneiderlin both missed a couple of games, Clyne's absence opened the door for Calum Chambers who then held onto the spot for a while. Wanyama did have an injury at that pointz , though its worth noting he's not been a guaranteed starter this season. I think Southampton are better than last year, but I wouldn't expect them to keep up their defensive form at all.

only concern over him is what formation LVG will play with rooney back and it not being a really tough fixture. di maria has been nice and advanced for a while now but it's also been 5 games since rooney wasn't suspended and man utd were playing someone other than man city

Yeah there is the unknown to consider but I think any one of the systems LVG has employed against Palace will see some attacking returns. Also considered about goals going the other way but that may only help ADM's return as they go on the hunt for more goals.
