Alexis Sanchez scores yet again as Arsenal let a three-goal advantage slip at home to Anderlecht. Brendan Rodgers makes a number of changes as Liverpool lose narrowly to Real Madrid. Diafra Sakho is set to return for West Ham’s home clash with Villa and Aleksandar Kolarov is set for a spell on the sidelines with a calf complaint.

Sanchez Strikes Again in Gunners Draw

Arsene Wenger made two changes to the side that faced Burnley at the weekend for the Champions League clash with Anderlecht last night, as Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both earned starts. The latter, along with Mikel Arteta and Alexis Sanchez, helped his side move 3-0 ahead, before the Gunners blew their lead to end up drawing 3-3 with the Belgian club.

The Scout Says: Though last night’s events may have dented the confidence of Wenger’s side, and raised question marks over their resilience against tougher opponents, they did at least exhibit the sort of attacking flair in the first 60 minutes that will fill owners of their offensive assets with plenty of confidence ahead of the weekend trip to Swansea. Sanchez has now notched 11 goals in his last 13 appearances, and has already acquired 170,000 new owners since his brace against Burnley last Saturday. Danny Welbeck, meanwhile, earned an assist last night, and having been withdrawn with ten minutes to go at the Emirates, continues to look nailed on for starts until the return of Olivier Giroud, at least. Now available for 7.4 in the Fantasy Premier League game (FPL), the former United forward continues to look a viable prospect for our frontlines, albeit at a far less explosive level than his in-form strike partner.

RODGERS RINGS THE CHANGES IN REAL LOSS

Brendan Rodgers made numerous changes to his starting line-up for last night’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid. The likes of Kolo Toure, Lazar Markovic and Fabio Borini were all handed starts at the Bernabeu, and, despite a valiant effort in defence, Liverpool slipped to a 1-0 defeat , leaving them on just three points from four outings in Europe.

Post-match, Rodgers confirmed that the plethora of changes was due to his normal first-choice side’s recent lack of form:

“The Newcastle game we lost and we were disappointed with the result and the performance. We might have lost 5-0 if we started with those players. We are not a team on the back of five or six wins and my selection is made easy because of performance. Anything but that and there are so many positives from tonight.”

The Scout Says: Many may have viewed last night’s teamsheet as an indicator that Rodgers is prioritising his side’s efforts in the Premier League over their European commitments, though the Anfield boss moved quickly to deny such allegations. Indeed, it now looks like a number of places in the starting XI are up for grabs when Liverpool face Chelsea this weekend, and although the likes of Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling will surely return to the side against the table-toppers, it’s clear that Rodgers won’t be taking any prisoners from here on in –a scenario that may well place further question marks over his starting line-ups across all competitions.

SAKHO SET FOR WEEKEND RETURN

West Ham have confirmed that striker Diafra Sakho will be back from a shoulder injury for their encounter with Aston Villa this weekend.

The Scout Says: The former Metz forward has tallied a sensational 48 points across his six starts for the Hammers, though continues to fly under the radar with an ownership of just 5.5% in FPL. His absence last weekend allowed strike partner Enner Valencia to step in and take the plaudits with a goal and an assist against Stoke, and Sakho will now be eager to reaffirm his position as the forward option of choice in Sam Allardyce’s side. With a price tag still of just 5.8, the Senegal international is sure to rise in value if he can now take full advantage of his great fixture list (AVL, eve, NEW, wba, SWA, sun) and perhaps even begin to challenge the likes of Sergio Aguero and Graziano Pelle at the zenith of the FPL forward standings.

YACOB IN LINE FOR BAGGIES START

Alan Irvine has revealed that he is likely to play Claudio Yacob in place of the suspended Craig Gardner when his West Brom side take on Newcastle this weekend.

The Scout Says: Having only made three appearances from the bench so far this season, Sunday’s clash with Newcastle will represent a huge opportunity for Yacob to secure himself more minutes across the rest of the campaign. The knock-on effect of the Argentine’s selection should also mean that Chris Brunt continues on the flank against the Magpies. The 5.4 priced midfielder has earned an assist in each of his last three home appearances and will be tasked with providing the creative threat from the left once again this weekend – with an ownership below 1%, Brunt looks an intriguing differential option for those looking to free up budget to get the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero in elsewhere.

KOLAROV ABSENCE CONFIRMED

Manuel Pellegrini has disclosed that left back Aleksandar Kolarov will be out of action for a month with the calf injury he sustained during the warm-up prior to the Manchester derby last weekend.

The Scout Says: Kolarov’s injury blow does at least provide Fantasy managers with some more assuredness over City’s starting backline. Up until now, only Vincent Kompany has started every league match, and thus has looked the only viable option in their rearguard, despite his hefty 6.5 price tag. However, with Kolarov sidelined, Gael Clichy now blinks onto our radars – the Frenchman is available for 5.3, and has earned maximum bonus points on the two occasions he has earned a clean sheet. The former Arsenal man now looks assured of starts over the next month, and with City facing a superb schedule in that time (qpr, SWA, sou, sun), could be set to reap the benefits of Kolarov’s absence.

Who would you play/captain?? (Bare in mind I am in a draft picked league so players aren't readily available)

    Fabianski (Mannone)

    Bertrand, Wisdom, Shaw (Dummett, Mangala)
    Sanchez, Sterling, Downing, Mané (Matic)
    Bony, RVP, Sakho

    Team for this week

    Heaton
    Trippier, Bertrand, Clyne
Di Maria (c), Fabregas, Hazard, Sanchez
    Pelle, Costa, Sakho

Currently 40,000th but took a 16 point hit this week for some unknown reason!

Baines, Sigurdsson, Welbeck, Sterling + Larsson out for Tripper, Di Maria, Hazard, Sakho + Ameobi

    Was this madness??

          Sorry I should've clarified.

When you once bring Baines in, it's hard to find a week where you don't feel nervous about taking him out and missing the week where he scores a penalty or free kick. That's what I meant. I brought him in and can't see a week where I'll feel safe to take him out for someone else barring when he plays away to Chelsea and even then I would be unsure.

    Hi all,

Would appreciate some thoughts on my team. I've gone for the unthinkable, transferring out Costa and not yet grabbing Aguero:

    Krul (wba)

Bert (LEI), Chambers (swa), Baines (sun)

Downing (AST), Tadic (LEI) (VC), Sanchez (swa), Fab (liv), Di Maria (CRY)

    Sakho (AST), (C), Pelle (LEI)

    Bench: Guzan, Duff, Dummett, Vardy

Crazy or reasonable? Costa playing Liverpool away so I don't expect him to go crazy. Couldn't afford Aguero at that point and am still two transfer away from that (Tadic needs to go for a cheapo first if that were to happen). I am confident Sakho will score. The West Ham attack is just too good at the moment and he's in form and their spearhead.

All those who got Chambers in this week. What are your reasons for it?

swa, MUN, wba, SOU, stk, NEW, liv - I don't see many clean sheets from this run of games. I'm thinking about getting rid this week as I'll bench him for the next 2 anyway

Presumably for price rise. I brought him in for a hit last gw, believing he would defo get a clean sheet against the 'might' of Burnley. I was right and then some.

I'm keeping. An Arsenal defender for 4.7 is to good to throw away. They could feasibly keep a CS in any of those games.

Arsenal got clean sheets against a poor and out of form Sunderland and Burnley sides. But the teams they are about to face have been performing well and should score against them. Will they win or lose is another matter

Didn't get him this week but with kos coming back arsenal will be back to being at least a top 6 defence

Then you factor in his price and he's pretty much a bargain. Can't think if anyone better for less than 5. Maybe naylor with his fixtures

City defence usually ends up with a lot more clean sheets than the Arsenal defence. Also fixtures are playing a part in my thinking

Also , keeping cleanies away from home has never been a problem for arsenal given they're not against any if the top 4. Some decent away games there

This! Arsenal's defence has always been better away from home against mid/bottom half table teams than at home.

Fair point. But they got 2 CSs against out of form sides and 1 against an illness hit Villa side so far, apart from that no clean sheets and their defensive form in Europe has been woeful.

    Current team:

    Heaton (Mannone)
Chambers - Coleman - Wisdom (Naylor - Moore)
    Hazard - ADM (c) - Tadic (v) - Downing (Boyd)
    Kun - Costa - Welbz

    1 FT, 0.1 ITB.

Thinking about saving transfer if no (European) injuries come up. Mannone and Moore may need to go soon but maybe not yet. Kind of like the idea of having 2 FT's for the international break. What do you think? G2G?

Ya I have Sanchez, Siggy, Chambers and Naylor. Which defender do I play? I don't see either keeping a cs.

anyone else ship Costa a few weeks back, then got Sanchez, and now can't afford to get Costa back?

I'm thinking of ultimately shipping Siggy (for Downing - this week), Clyne (for a cheapie next week), and Pelle (for Costa next week)...

Do you think that Chadli and Sanchez will outscore Sterling and Ramsey by more than 4 points over the next 4 GW? Not sure if this move is really worth it with Pool's upcoming run of fixtures. Ramsey should also pick up some form, but Sanchez is really a beast atm. I'm trying to convince myself that Sanchez isn't essential short term as Arsenal's fixtures aren't that great.

I've had around 5 mill in my bank for the last 3 GW's.
Gone from 200k to about 2.3k in those GW's
Point is if you have spent the remainder well it doesn't matter.

Little defensive conundrum this week. I have the following players:

    Azpi (liv)
    Clyne (LEI)
    Wisdom (NEW)
    Moreno (CHE)
    Chambers (swa)

Currently benched Moreno & Chambers but I can't work out if that's right or not. Clyne my only 100% starter there.

In front of them I have

    ADM, Siggy, Fab, Tadic

    Aguero, Costa, Sakho

    (c) between Aguero and Sakho. Am sitting just outside top 10k having dropped out this week, you guys always give good advice so appreciate any help with the defence and the armband.

Thanks mate, I think I'll keep the bench.

I'm a West Ham fan so it's not very often I get tempted to (c) one of our own. Heart over head maybe!

    Newbie seeking advice. Current team:

    Forster (Jakupovic)
Baines - Chambers - Clyne (Wisdom, Duff)
ADM (C) - Sanchez (VC) - Downing - Sterling (Siggy)
    Berahino - Costa - Welbz

0 FT 0.7 ITB - not enough to strengthen attack and midfield, so long term am I better off prioritising:

    A. Midfield:

    Sterling > Fab
    Welbz > Sakho

    B. Attack:

    Sterling > Diame/Hendo/Brunt
    Welbz > Rooney

      Sterling > 4.5
      Welbz > Aguero

      Possible?

      If not probably A

        Cheers.

        Welbz > Aguero
        Sterling > Diame
        Siggy > Wanyama

Is about the only way I can get Aguero in, not sure if that leaves me too weak in Midfield.
