Leighton Baines rescues a point for Everton away to the Black Cats. Alexis Sanchez’ goal streak continues, Gylfi Sigurdsson notches for the first time since the season opener, Nacer Chadli grabs his sixth of the campaign, whilst Newcastle’s defence bring home the points once again.

Baines Delivers Yet Again

Leighton Baines was amongst the points once more yesterday, with a 76th minute penalty earning Everton a point on the road at Sunderland. The left-back has notched attacking returns in seven of his last nine, and despite teammate Seamus Coleman earning an assist at the Stadium of Light, Baines continues to look the one premium defender worth investing in right now: indeed, only Alexis Sanchez now has more points than the 7.3-priced Toffees’ full-back, even though Roberto Martinez’s outfit have only managed three clean sheets up until this point.

Black Cats Forced into Rearguard Rotation

The big news on the teamsheet yesterday was that Costel Pantilimon kept his place ahead of Vito Mannone between the sticks, and subsequently frustrated the visitors with a total of six saves across the 90 minutes. Elsewhere, with Patrick van Aanholt ruled out for up to three months with a shoulder injury, Gus Poyet opted to shift Anthony Reveillere to left-back, allowing Wes Brown a route back into the centre of defence after being dropped against Crystal Palace last time out. However, the pecking order in the Black Cats’ rearguard remains to be seen once Billy Jones returns and, with four tough fixtures to come after their trip to Leicester (CHE, MCI , liv, WHM), few will be looking at their assets in spite of their recent upturn in form.

Perez Form Continues

Newcastle recorded their fourth straight league win with a 2-0 victory over West Brom at the Hawthorns yesterday. With Alan Pardew continuing to be cautious with Papiss Cisse’s knee problems, the 4.8-valued Ayoze Perez grabbed the headlines yet again after scoring for the third game in a row – the manner of his finish certainly suggest a striker high on confidence right now and with showdowns against QPR, West Ham and Burnley in the next three, it’s difficult to see the youngster being dropped to the bench, given his fine form.

Magpies Rearguard Holds Firm

Newcastle are mainly demanding our attentions at the back, though, with yesterday’s clean sheet ensuring that it’s only one goal conceded in their last four. Daryl Janmaat was the main man in defence after earning assists for both his side’s goals in addition to the maximum bonus points, whilst skipper Fabricio Coloccini arrived on the radar with a goal before being withdrawn late on due to a knock. Intriguingly, Paul Dummett moved to centre-half to cover for the injured Steven Taylor in spite of the availability of Mike Williamson – at 4.1 to Janmaat’s 5.0, the versatile Dummett now seems to be nailed-on and has started each of the last seven.

Chadli Strikes as Kane Stumbles

Mauricio Pochettino handed Harry Kane his first league start after moving back to a 4-2-3-1 formation at home to Stoke yesterday. Whilst the youngster was unable to grab the opportunity and drew a blank, Nacer Chadli again scored for Spurs as he continues to look their one viable option at the moment. The Belgian is now up to third for midfielders after grabbing his sixth of the season in the 2-1 loss and, at a price of just 6.6, continues to prosper in spite of his side’s struggles. With five excellent fixtures in their next seven (hul, CPL, swa, BUR, lei), Chadli is surely set to earn further investment, with only 15% of FPL managers currently owning the in-form Belgian.

Bojan Finding His Feet

Mark Hughes chose to hand summer signing Bojan a second consecutive start, and was rewarded as the Spaniard finally opened his account for the season with a mazy run and finish, suggesting he’s now starting to settle in to his new surroundings. Jon Walters, meanwhile, grabbed Stoke’s second and has now managed a goal or assist in three of his last four. However, though the visit of Burnley to the Britannia in Gameweek 12 could prove prosperous, the Potters then face five tough clashes in their subsequent six (liv, mnu, ARS, CHE, eve) and managers are unlikely to be tempted by their assets for the long-term.

Sanchez Still Firing Despite Gunners’ Form

Alexis Sanchez’s unrivalled vein of form continued as he scored once more as Arsenal stumbled away to Swansea. The Chilean has now totaled six goals in the last four Gameweeks, picking up maximum bonus on each occasion, and with Angel Di Maria struggling over that same period, we could see a big swing in investment over the international break. Danny Welbeck continues to tick over, too, with a goal or assist in three of his last four now after setting up Sanchez in yesterday’s defeat. Though the former Man United man is clearly still being overshadowed by his team-mate, at 7.3 he is looking very good value, with the Gunners’ forthcoming schedule in mind (MUN, wba, SOU, sto, NEW).

Sigurdsson Back in the Goals

Gylfi Sigurdsson is back up to fourth in the Fantasy Premier League midfield standings after his unstoppable free-kick set Swansea on their way to a comeback win over Arsenal. That was the Icelander’s first goal since Gameweek 1, and having been sold by over 90,000 in the last two Gameweeks, the 6.7-priced man served up a timely reminder of his ability to produce regardless of the fixture – a trait that is sure to come in handy when the Swans visit Man City in Gameweek 12. With three home encounters in the next four after the Etihad clash (CPL, QPR, TOT), and Wilfried Bony’s minutes now surely under threat from match-winner Bafetimbi Gomis, owners of Sigurdsson are now likely to scrap their exit route plans as Garry Monk’s side look to take advantage of those kind Liberty fixtures.

I think we are seeing the 2010-2013 Yaya that many of us owned again. The 2013/14 Yaya was a statistical anomaly.

I will probably own him again this winter as I can't avoid cool looking players who boss games but don't get FPL points.

Aye, this. As overvalued as i think he was last season, and for the lazy bugger i think he is, there have been signs of his "normal" class in the past few games. Hes an exellent footballer, but the things he did last season just arent sustainable. You cannot score on 2/3 of your shots every season, thats just not possible.

Totally different scenario; Sanchez and Hazard carry a threat game in game out that Toure simply doesn't have. Fabregas might be a better comparison.

I don't believe it. The position on the pitch has all too often been a fallacy people fall foul of.

Haha I was a couple of years ago, but I put that down to Everton bias. It's not just position, it's the threat that is clearly visible just from watching the matches. Watching Sanchez recently, he looks like he could score every time he gets the ball. I just don't see that with Toure.

*a couple of years ago clearly denotes at least twice last season.

Sanchez didn't look like that at the start of the season, and if he gets tired/rotated due to competition or CL, and Toure steps up, I'll be leading the Bandwagon!

I had a ghost team last season, and 2 years ago I finished 296 - so having Mirallas briefly didn't do much harm!

Lol, that statement. Everyone who scores a goal every other game will be essential, yes. Yaya just wont ever reproduce the kind of numbers he had last season, ever. And his price is atleast 1.5 too high. The only reason i would ever get him this season is if/when City would have a dgw. And even then, im not so sure.

Haha, If he's achieved more than a goal every other game before why can't he again? The team's the same and he's more mature, he hasn't really lost pace. A goal a game for two games and some decent fixtures and the bandwagon will roll again 😉

I hear you Ab, but by Christmas he'll drop a little more and we're not tied into leaving money in Suarez or punting on the likes of RVP like last year so 1 mil more is doable.

Also, Aguero will probably have been injured 3 times by Christmas.

Have you seen any City games this season? Yaya has looked fat/lazy in almost all of them, barring maybe the last two. Last season he had less than 30 shots on goal, and 20 goals, You really think thats ever achievable again? If you do, youre mistaken. Team might be the same on paper, but theyre not playing even remotely close to how well they did last season.

think he's in the same form this season as last season and the 3 before that still. same sort of playing position too. difference last season was purely 6 pens, insane free kick ratio, no afcon, and being part of a confident team who scored 100+ goals (see lampard in 09/10 too). i'm sure if man city are still in the mix comes the spring he will produce a couple of rampant surging run goals too like last season but otherwise i think it's just classic 6 goal 6 assist yaya

Put it this way. How many Barca players would you want to have in the Real squad over players they have today? Probably only Messi, if youre 100% honest? Maaaaaaaaaybe Busquets over one of Modric/Kroos, but only maybe. Suarez over Bale, again maybe. Neymar over Ronaldo? No way. Perhaps any GK over Casillas, but Navas is pretty damn good. Alves is shit now, and Marcelo is as good as Alba, if not better.

I'm presuming this isn't FPL?! As a real life, best Prem XI, I think I'd go for Cahill over Koscielny, and Baines on the left/Azpi on the right, but other than that it's pretty spot on!

Yep, real life. Found defenders tricky, but just think those two CB's at their best are far better than anyone else. Koscielny has flourished with Mertesacker mainly though, so would be interesting to see how he fares with a different cb.

    Current mids:
    Sanchez/Adm/fab/Siggy/Marney
    Current def :
    Bertie/Chambers/Wisdom/Hutton/Moore.
    (Have Costa/Aguero/Sahko)

    Options:
    A - adm/Moore > Chadli/Baines. 1.4 itb
    B - AdM/Bertie > Oscar/Baines 0.9 itb
    C - Fab/Moore > Chadli/Baines 1.0 itb
    D - fab/Bertie > Oscar/Baines 0.5 itb

Evening all, would you do much with this lot?
Is it worth a WC to sort out the defence and get in Sir Leighton?

    DDG. (4.0)
Clyne - Dummet - Taylor (PVA - Moore)
Sanchez - Fabregas - Tadic - Downing (Boyd)
    Costa - Aguero - Pelle
    .1 itb. - 1ft

Might I suggest Coleman as a cheaper alternative to Sir Leighton? You could save the FT and have 2 for GW13 to make your moves. Tadic + Cesc + PVA out for Byod, Chadli/Siggy & Baines/Goalman.

(Haven't checked the prices but hope it adds up)

    Krul - Foster
    Baines - Clyne - Chester - N Taylor - WIsdom
    Hazard - Sanchez - Siggy - Tadic - Marney
    Aguero - Pelle - Berahino
    2FT, 1.7 ITB

Things I might want to happen sooner of later:
Tadic, Pelle, Berahino -> Downing, Costa, Austin

Tadic has to go to fund Costa. So is Berahino (che) to Austin (new) worth -4 this week? It's a move I'll probably make the week after anyway and will mean I can then look at my GK/defs/Marney.

Or I could ignore Costa and his potential suspension and get ADM and Sakho and Austin.

    Hmm.

    Thanks for any advice.

No I have Boyd. With the form he has and fixtures he seems a good punt for a few weeks.

Ayoze is a huge punt and risk. You'd have to commit to playing him for 4GWs then ditching if the 'Ayoze experience' fails to deliver. 2-3 goals will be more than worth it as he frees up funds for major squad improvements IMO.

The trick might be having a good escape plan when you done with him so as to not dismember your team to get him out.

Going to guess Poch feels having him and Lamela on at the same time is having too many players of the same ilk who like roaming into the same spaces. Until the midfield can show some solidity, he's probably not going to risk playing two players who are defensive liabilities as whiles they offer a lot [or are supposed to] going forward, they kinda do little to help when it comes to the defensive side of the game.

      My wild guess.

Eriksen doesnt work as a winger, needs to be in the #10. Poch probably just felt they lacked some decisiveness, Eriksen can be pretty slow on the ball at times.

I do feel a Sakho+ Hazard combo will outscore a Costa+Wanyama pairing but I guess Costa presents a more clear-cut captain option so that swings it in his favor? Wanyama will be your 5th MID option yes?
