Leighton Baines rescues a point for Everton away to the Black Cats. Alexis Sanchez’ goal streak continues, Gylfi Sigurdsson notches for the first time since the season opener, Nacer Chadli grabs his sixth of the campaign, whilst Newcastle’s defence bring home the points once again.

Baines Delivers Yet Again

Leighton Baines was amongst the points once more yesterday, with a 76th minute penalty earning Everton a point on the road at Sunderland. The left-back has notched attacking returns in seven of his last nine, and despite teammate Seamus Coleman earning an assist at the Stadium of Light, Baines continues to look the one premium defender worth investing in right now: indeed, only Alexis Sanchez now has more points than the 7.3-priced Toffees’ full-back, even though Roberto Martinez’s outfit have only managed three clean sheets up until this point.

Black Cats Forced into Rearguard Rotation

The big news on the teamsheet yesterday was that Costel Pantilimon kept his place ahead of Vito Mannone between the sticks, and subsequently frustrated the visitors with a total of six saves across the 90 minutes. Elsewhere, with Patrick van Aanholt ruled out for up to three months with a shoulder injury, Gus Poyet opted to shift Anthony Reveillere to left-back, allowing Wes Brown a route back into the centre of defence after being dropped against Crystal Palace last time out. However, the pecking order in the Black Cats’ rearguard remains to be seen once Billy Jones returns and, with four tough fixtures to come after their trip to Leicester (CHE, MCI , liv, WHM), few will be looking at their assets in spite of their recent upturn in form.

Perez Form Continues

Newcastle recorded their fourth straight league win with a 2-0 victory over West Brom at the Hawthorns yesterday. With Alan Pardew continuing to be cautious with Papiss Cisse’s knee problems, the 4.8-valued Ayoze Perez grabbed the headlines yet again after scoring for the third game in a row – the manner of his finish certainly suggest a striker high on confidence right now and with showdowns against QPR, West Ham and Burnley in the next three, it’s difficult to see the youngster being dropped to the bench, given his fine form.

Magpies Rearguard Holds Firm

Newcastle are mainly demanding our attentions at the back, though, with yesterday’s clean sheet ensuring that it’s only one goal conceded in their last four. Daryl Janmaat was the main man in defence after earning assists for both his side’s goals in addition to the maximum bonus points, whilst skipper Fabricio Coloccini arrived on the radar with a goal before being withdrawn late on due to a knock. Intriguingly, Paul Dummett moved to centre-half to cover for the injured Steven Taylor in spite of the availability of Mike Williamson – at 4.1 to Janmaat’s 5.0, the versatile Dummett now seems to be nailed-on and has started each of the last seven.

Chadli Strikes as Kane Stumbles

Mauricio Pochettino handed Harry Kane his first league start after moving back to a 4-2-3-1 formation at home to Stoke yesterday. Whilst the youngster was unable to grab the opportunity and drew a blank, Nacer Chadli again scored for Spurs as he continues to look their one viable option at the moment. The Belgian is now up to third for midfielders after grabbing his sixth of the season in the 2-1 loss and, at a price of just 6.6, continues to prosper in spite of his side’s struggles. With five excellent fixtures in their next seven (hul, CPL, swa, BUR, lei), Chadli is surely set to earn further investment, with only 15% of FPL managers currently owning the in-form Belgian.

Bojan Finding His Feet

Mark Hughes chose to hand summer signing Bojan a second consecutive start, and was rewarded as the Spaniard finally opened his account for the season with a mazy run and finish, suggesting he’s now starting to settle in to his new surroundings. Jon Walters, meanwhile, grabbed Stoke’s second and has now managed a goal or assist in three of his last four. However, though the visit of Burnley to the Britannia in Gameweek 12 could prove prosperous, the Potters then face five tough clashes in their subsequent six (liv, mnu, ARS, CHE, eve) and managers are unlikely to be tempted by their assets for the long-term.

Sanchez Still Firing Despite Gunners’ Form

Alexis Sanchez’s unrivalled vein of form continued as he scored once more as Arsenal stumbled away to Swansea. The Chilean has now totaled six goals in the last four Gameweeks, picking up maximum bonus on each occasion, and with Angel Di Maria struggling over that same period, we could see a big swing in investment over the international break. Danny Welbeck continues to tick over, too, with a goal or assist in three of his last four now after setting up Sanchez in yesterday’s defeat. Though the former Man United man is clearly still being overshadowed by his team-mate, at 7.3 he is looking very good value, with the Gunners’ forthcoming schedule in mind (MUN, wba, SOU, sto, NEW).

Sigurdsson Back in the Goals

Gylfi Sigurdsson is back up to fourth in the Fantasy Premier League midfield standings after his unstoppable free-kick set Swansea on their way to a comeback win over Arsenal. That was the Icelander’s first goal since Gameweek 1, and having been sold by over 90,000 in the last two Gameweeks, the 6.7-priced man served up a timely reminder of his ability to produce regardless of the fixture – a trait that is sure to come in handy when the Swans visit Man City in Gameweek 12. With three home encounters in the next four after the Etihad clash (CPL, QPR, TOT), and Wilfried Bony’s minutes now surely under threat from match-winner Bafetimbi Gomis, owners of Sigurdsson are now likely to scrap their exit route plans as Garry Monk’s side look to take advantage of those kind Liberty fixtures.

It's incredibly knee-jerky, but I have no other transfers I need to do or would prefer to do. Plus, Carrol's return slightly worries me, along with Sakho's accuracy over the last few. Austin is in blazing form and has slightly better fixies in the next 3...have downing as well.

Really just creating reasons to make stupid transfers. 😆

Same here...captained Graziano-bloody-Pelle over Kun! Managed a 64 but it was pretty disappointing considering the armband mess up, my Siggy--->Downing(-4) transfer and benching Duff for Wisdom. 😕 😆

At least you're in the top 10k...down to 133k now! 😆

Cheers mate...that looks like what I'll do, unless I get tempted to swap Chester out this week for Cresswell/Chambers. Not sure I fancy playing Wisdom+Foster away to chelsea or Foster + Duff(stk)

Team's nicely set up in attack...hopefully that pans out nicely over the next few.

Personally, I'd keep Sakho and the rest of the team. 2 FTs next week when fixtures swing = Pellé to Bony and get a swans defender in (fixtures!!)

There's very little between Sakho and Austin and we all saw Ulloa disappear off the fantasy radar as quickly as he blasted his way on.

Austin's run of games are good enough for you to sit back another GW and still not miss the bus.

You have Agüero, Sanchez and Baines - the three closest to essential - and Hazard and ADM who are potentially next to explode.

              FWIW 😉

Most under the radar players right now? Sturridge and Sterling.

When together to start the year Liverpool were a threat to score. Provided Sterling doesn't get hurt over the international break they could both provide a differential in coming weeks given their fixtures.

Yeah definitely hold, almost the perfect team for next week. I would personally recommend holding Bertrand since I'm guessing you have some value tied up in him now - they're the best defence in the league and the stats back up their clean sheets, so I still think he'll be worth the price tag despite the fixtures. Who are you going to get for Tadic and Pelle?

The only person I'd consider is Sanchez but not for a hit right now, he won't keep scoring forever.

Mane is very frustrating to own but he could be VERY explosive with his points, he looks to be getting in goal scoring opportunities, tempting to hold for now for at least 1 more gw, thanks

    Hi guys,

Going to try and put together a few community articles over this international break. I wondered if you had topics that you would like me to cover. Will be using the members area, comparing stats of either players or teams.

Was thinking of a promoted team analysis to uncover some potential bargains, or a comparrison of the overachievers (Who in my mind are swansea, southampton and west ham), or perhaps some stats regarding the top scoring players in the FPL game so far.

Let me know if you like any of these, or have any suggestions of your own!

Di Maria always has and always will run hot and cold. There are times he's special, others the worst player on the pitch.

Is this a bit over the top?

    Krul / Given
    Baines / Bertrand / Chambers / N. Taylor / S. Taylor
Sanchez / Fabregas / Di Maria / Sigurdsson / Boyd
    Costa / Aguero / Zamora

Obviously Zamora and Krul aren't great but the rest of the team compensates I think. Currently got Chadli and Berahino instead of Di Maria and Zamora.

Wildcard? Can't have Boyd and Zamora. One of them has to play. Downgrade ntaylor and Bertrand to get a proper 3rd striker. Best off rotating some defenders than 2 blanking attackers

Also given males no sense unless you also go guzan

Given is just a 4.0 keeper to save the cash - had him in since the start for that reason and don't want to waste a transfer changing it. It would basically mean rotating the two Taylors and Zamora for the 10th spot in the team (given the other 9 pick themselves). I can live with that, but not sure about running Krul out every game.

Ask yourself do you think krul Zamora and ADM/Fab will outscore a midpriced keeper mid and striker combo like Fabianksi Chadli and Sakho? If you think so then go for it.

Looking at Arsenal's average position heatmap from their game yesterday, it's clear that they operated with 2 defensive midfielders, one of them being Ramsey. I don't know if this is a direct result or whether it's just due to them not managing to break down Swansea, but Ramsey failed to register any shots from inside the box.

Would take a massive wide berth on Ramsey, he's on zero form, Wenger has come out and said he needs to get his form back before he can think about getting forward and score goals, with Arsenal in awful form also, can see him getting deeper and deeper for the time-being

I wonder if Giroud returning will see Arsene switch to a 4-2-3-1 with Giroud linking up play more and Ramsey playing the more attacking role of the two defensive mids.

Not sure on this, I watched the game and Ramsey still looked pretty dangerous despite lying deeper. Two of those longshots went very close...

interesting. If he makes the runs into the box at the right time then he could still threaten I guess, but if he is limited to long-shots then I think that kills his appeal at 8.8m

He played brainlessly again yesterday, same as in midweek. After last season he thinks he's Zidane, still bombs forward even when Arsenal are a goal up and under pressure. Wenger has said he needs to think a bit more and focus on getting on the ball and passing it over scoring so if he takes that on board he doesn't look like getting near Sanchez at the moment. I think he'll offer value at some point in the season, but steer clear for now.

Sanchez ((ManU) / Hazard (WBA) / Chadli (hul) / Downing (eve)

Aguero (SWA) / Pelle (avl) / Naismith (WHU)

    (Bolasie / Wisdon / PVA)

Really want Costa this WK - already did Tadic to Chadli just now, hoping for the price rise plus coz of Hull + his price)

    Krul (Elliot)
Baines // Clyne // Moore (Hutton) (Wisdom)
Alexis // Cesc // Chadli // Sigurdsson (Boyd)
    Aguero // Costa // Pelle

    FT = 1
