With a quick turnaround in fixtures, we take time out to assess the Premier League treatment rooms this evening and cast an eye over those players who picked up injuries over Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures.

Arsenal
Arsene Wenger’s injury troubles continue to mount as he lost both his left-backs to problems in the 1-0 win at West Brom. Nacho Monreal picked up an ankle knock before his replacement, Kieran Gibbs, suffered yet another issue. Wenger gave us an update on that pair, post-match, whilst also revealing that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has concerns over a knee injury ahead of the visit of Southampton on Wednesday…

“Gibbs struggled a little bit with an ankle problem and Monreal with a knee problem. Oxlade-Chamberlain also had a knee problem.”

Aston Villa
Paul Lambert’s defensive worries continued at the weekend. With Ron Vlaar, Philippe Senderos and Nathan Baker already sidelined through injury, the Villa boss is sweating on the fitness of Ciaran Clark after the centre-half was forced off during injury time of yesterday’s draw at Burnley.

Crystal Palace
Dwight Gayle was withdrawn just 21 minutes into the weekend draw at Swansea with a leg injury, though other sources also state he’s sustained a back problem. Gayle can be considered a doubt for Tuesday’s home clash with Villa, having started the last two league outings.

Hull City
Robbie Brady was replaced on 75 minutes of the Tigers’ loss at Old Trafford having sustained a knock, according to match reports.

Manchester City
City are sweating on the fitness of skipper Vincent Kompany after the defender suffered a hamstring injury in this afternoon’s win at Southampton. Post-match, Manuel Pellegrini – who also has Eliaquim Mangala suspended for the midweek trip to Sunderland – went on to say:

“We cannot know the situation at the moment. He has a problem with his hamstring. We will see with the doctor how important it is but at this moment, I cannot tell you exactly what he has. We will see.”

Man United
Angel Di Maria is almost certain to miss tomorrow’s home encounter with Stoke after being forced off just 13 minutes into the win over Hull with his own hamstring injury. Wayne Rooney is also nursing a calf complaint ahead of the Potters clash, though Louis van Gaal is a little more optimistic on his captain’s chances of being available:

“Angel shall be out for Stoke, I think. Wayne, I don’t know. He has already told me he wants to play against Stoke, but Rooney always says that. We will know in 48 hours..”

Newcastle United
The Magpies are sweating on the fitness of right-back Daryl Janmaat, who was forced off with a hamstring injury in the 1-0 loss at West Ham. Alan Pardew has also confirmed Rob Elliott will take his place between the sticks “for the next four or five games” due to Tim Krul’s ankle injury.

QPR
The R’s budget left-back Yun Suk-Young was replaced on 51 minutes of the 3-2 win over Leicester after sustaining a knee injury. Bobby Zamora missed out altogether with a slight back injury.

Southampton
Jack Cork was unavailable for today’s home loss to City due to illness, whilst Morgan Schneiderlin was forced off after sustaining a leg injury. After the match, Ronald Koeman rolled out an update on the midfield pair ahead of the midweek trip to Arsenal:

“He [Morgan] had an injury in his upper right leg, we have to wait, maybe we will know tomorrow [Monday] about if he will be okay for Wednesday. Jack I hope will be back, we need the players.”

Stoke City
Mark Hughes also has worries in central midfield ahead of the trip to Old Trafford. Steve Sidwell was withdrawn during the first half of yesterday’s loss at Liverpool with a knee problem, whilst replacement Glenn Whelan was subbed off at the break with a calf complaint. After the match, the Potters boss was pessimistic on both players’ chances of making it in time for the trip to United:

“We’ve got a game on Tuesday and it’s highly unlikely either will be available. Whether it was because he didn’t have an opportunity to warm up prior to coming on I don’t know, but he (Whelan) has pulled his calf unfortunately.”

Tottenham Hotspur
Vlad Chiriches limped out of this afternoon’s home win over Everton and was replaced by Erik Dier midway through the second period. Kyle Naughton is back from suspension for Wednesday’s trip to Stamford Bridge so the Spurs right-back situation is a little cloudy to say the least.

West Brom
The Baggies left-back Sebastien Pocognoli was forced off with a leg problem towards the end of yesterday’s home loss to Arsenal. Alan Irvine rolled out an update after the match:

“Seb has a dead leg, we think. He and Chris Brunt slid in at the same time and it seems he came off worse. All we can do now is assess him and see how he is. Dead legs can be a problem because you never know how quickly they will settle down.”

    Foster Schmeichael

    Clyne Bertrand Naylor Duff mcnair

    Sanchez Siggy Oscar Chadli Boyd

    Aguero Costa Rooney

    0.3 in the bank

Considering Costa Chadli Bertrand to one of

    A) Austin Baines Cesc(worried about 4 yellows)
    B) Austin Azpi Hazard

    Both would be -8.

Yolo. It's more of a LM/RM that track backs rather than wingbacks tbh.
Lahm and Marchisio do most of the cleanups.

Yeah got to do it else the Chemistry wouldn't be at 10.

I can swap them back but gotta lose one of the Bayern / Italy combo to ThiagoSilva-Willian-Ramires.

    Baines and Mirallas

I know Baines will be affected by Mirallas but didnt know Mirallas totally kept Baines out of play last night...

Dammit this is so frustrating...is like watching Ramsey not passing the ball to Sanchez!

Anyone sharing the same view as me?

Isnt Mirallas supposed to be good for Baines. Him cutting inside and Baines overlapping and all?

Mirallas doesnt pass the ball to Baines at all!

I think Baines only managed to cross twice for the entire first half

Should I do Clyne -> Azpi (-4) and take out one of Wisdom/Boyd?

    Current team:

    Fabianski
    Baines - Naylor - Wisdom
    Hazard - Sanchez - Siggy - Downing - Boyd
    Aguero - Austin

    (Duff - Clyne - Costa)

Aguero has already said many times he is at City for the long haul. Think he would go to Madrid again? After being wonderkid at Atl Mad???

Yaya is past it, well just about, and we should have probably sold in the summer. Now we lose 15-20m.

    Hey guys

Taking another -4 hit this week. Which one tickles your ivories..?

    A. ADM Bertrand -> Erikson/Miralles Baines

    B. ADM Alcaraz -> Erikson/Miralles Jagielka

With Costa Duff and Alcaraz on my bench, choosing A. leaves me exposed if others don't play.

Forget about the TV, IMO. Who outscores who for these upcoming GW's is more important, Rooney has 8 goals in the last 9 games in total. Streaky player, I'd opt to jump on trail

Streaky player but bbenefited from Falcao being injured, might have to drop back now so they can all fit in.

Great pick but not sure he's captain material until we see if Van Gaal shoehorn everyone in again.

      1 + 6 + 6 + 2 + 7 + 6 + 1 = 29
      29 / 7 = 4.1ppg

So now that we're in times of need.
For all you seasoned veterans here (of FPL), going into December & still in the 100k mark.
What advice would you give to a rookie to climb up the rankings?

Plan ahead, keep point hits to a minimum and make the most of your January wildcard. As the season goes on, you'll find yourself overtaking dead teams as people get bored and other managers taking bigger risks with point hits to recover mini league deficits.

Play it cool and you'll go up the rankings.

...especially casuals who miss midweek gw's like this week!!

Although the problem is when many players and teams alike, have back to back decent fixtures on paper like this week, those who at least check on a Friday night, will still have a good enough base of a team, and probably a captain to boot, who will do well midweek!

Check your opponents, predict who will or won't know there is a midweek gw, and try and plan accordingly!!!

Great point Stup, yeah it seems those captain pick during DGW's can make or break your team's chances

There is a long way to go. Make sure you plan well in advance to hit those DGW's hard while minimizing hits to do it. Make sure you have 15 playing players in the Jan wildcard because weather can play mayhem with the fixtures after that. Don't be afraid to start losing value later on it really doesn't matter

Thanks for the tips Cheese 🙂
Yeah that Jan WC looks so crucial to hopes of a good finish, my WC will be there for the DGW's though. Hoping it makes a big enough difference to climb substantially

Does anyone else ever have problems with the FPL site? It never loads properly on my laptop and I've tried with Firefox, Chrome and IE. Must have something conflicting but I've no idea what.

Pages take forever to load and even then aren't laid out in a way that I can use. The transfers page has a blank pitch and no players.

If it wasn't for the Fantasy Football Manager app I'd be screwed completely.

Is it just a problem I have?

Yeah, I guess. He frustrated the shit out of me earlier and to be honest up to the Jan WC I prefer Costa based on fixtures. Then it changes.

        Bony's fixtures are amazing.

Can you see Costa surviving the Christmas fixture pileup? Looks a massive problem for him. Rooney on the other hand should be fine.

So should be Bony. Playing up top. Better fixtures. Penalties. Better stats.

Makes it possible for me to get Hazard.

    Looking at Chelsea's upcoming fixtures...

Does it seem reasonable to assume that Terry will be involved in all premier league games but possibly rested for Sporting (11th) and Derby County (17th)?

And in the two fixtures mentioned above, Luis will start over Azpi? The one thing about Azpi is I see those three game weeks in seven days just after christmas and feel that Luis may start one?

I know it is hard to predict what Mou will do, but from what I said above, do you think its about right?

          I got you...

Well, I said this earlier somewhere:
          Get Terry, spend .3mil & know he's starting 98% of Chelsea's matches.
Get Azpi, save .3mil & know you might suffer from a bit of rotation.

In the end, what's that .3mil worth to you?

Yeah, true. I don't really need the .3 (I guess it would be nice to upgrade Mannone), but I'd prefer buying a defender that is 100% nailed on with goal threat too

0.3m for me allows me to the option of buying Costa back if I sell him for Rooney this week, that is priceless...

If I get Terry, I can't do that...
