Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again as Fantasy managers prepare for a quick turnaround in fixtures ahead of tomorrow’s 7.30pm deadline. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s home encounter against Spurs, Sergio Aguero is the standout armband candidate according to the votes cast so far. Despite failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the City talisman has earned over 35% of the votes cast as the champions travel to a Sunderland side that has conceded just two goals in the last four and kept the league leaders at bay on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney is next in line as United look for a fourth straight win under Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils’ skipper has netted in successive league matches and is up against a Stoke defence that has been breached in each of the last seven – he’s persuaded over 16% to give him the nod. Robin van Persie remains a real differential for the Potters’ clash, with just 3% looking to the Dutchman to carry on from last weekend’s goal and assist at home to Hull.

Swansea are heavily backed for the visit of QPR – understandable, given that Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded more goals on their travels than any other team. With six goals in his last seven, Wilfried Bony earns 11% of the votes, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is next in line, having played a part in eight of his side’s 11 home goals so far.

Eden Hazard (7%) and Alexis Sanchez (5%) are also amongst the favourites. With Costa sidelined, Chelsea will be looking for the Belgian to score for the fourth successive home match as Spurs roll up to the Bridge, whilst Sanchez’ owners will be hoping for a return to form – he’s now blanked in each of the last two since being moved back to the flank.

Here's an interesting (and probably quite provocative) stat...

So far, Costa has scored more than 6 points in only 3 gameweeks

I weighed up this and also the fact he doesn't like BPs and any of Hazard/ Fab/ Oscar can rob points off him. I was becoming more and more reluctant to captain him too and you need 11m to be captain material.
Had him since the start but dumped this week.

Who for, out of interest? Made a big -4 kneejerk last week which I regret already, to bring him in Sigurdsson back in. Such a poor move. Considering dropping him again for Rooney now.

Given his lack of BPs etc, 11 is quite a lot to pay unless he's banging them in.

All that matters is how many points he has...
And, he's 7th highest scoring player in the game despite missing 2 games.
Not to mention that many of his 70 total points have been doubled due to the fact he's only blanked in 3 of his 10 games.

Still - at 11m, he's the 3rd most expensive player in the game, so it's arguable he's not justifying that outlay. And you say "despite missing 2 games" - well we all know he's gonna miss more, either through niggles/suspensions. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get a red card or two.

There's the issue RCA raised about how decent a captain option he is.

          >3rd most expensive player in the game, so it's arguable he's not justifying that outlay

Costa has scored in 8 of his 11 games... that means he's an easy captain's choice & effectively doubles his points per million.
So, when we factor in that fact his total is much closer to 140pts...
Hazard, Sanchez, Baines do not offer that kind of security.
*It's more important not to blank with your captay than it is to hit a home run.*

          > And you say "despite missing 2 games" - well we all know he's gonna miss more, either through niggles/suspensions

Yes, but that's true of every player, right?
This speaks to more to his ability to put up a high avg pts/game.
And, when he's out I still get production from another player after all.

In the end, not having him as a captain's option against Hull & West Ham at home in the next few weeks is a proposition I cannot pass up.

Sorry for the re-post, last one before bed. Big decisions to be made, with so little time. You obviously have better things to be doing with your Monday night, but please could you kindly spare a couple of minutes to feedback?

    A. Costa to Rooney
    B. Chadli to Downing
    C. Chadli & Sterling to Downing & Sanchez (-4)

    Fabianski, Gilks
    Baines, Bertrand*, Chambers, Hutton, Wisdom
    Sterling*, Fabregas, Chadli*, Sigurdsson, Marney
    Costa*, Aguero, Austin

    1 FT, 2.8 ITB.

Sorry, I won't post another one. Just a little frustrating when you provide some options (which I didn't do previously) and then you don't get any responses.

I help others quite a lot I feel, so would hope to get a similar level of response back.

I realise it's frustrating sometimes but a couple a day is about the reasonable limit and more likely to get better responses.
I give out advice & thoughts but not to everyone nor everyday so you just have wait sometimes.
Anyhoo, for what it's worth, follow your gut, it's more fun in the long term.... & more frustrating. 🙂

            Ok Owd, my tuppence worth.
Team looks sound but if Chadli is the worry then B.
If you fancy Hazard at some point do A

If it was me I'd be getting Rooney to enable the Hazard transfer in the near future as I'm convinced Hazard will get a lot more gametime over Xmas than Costa.

    Hazard, Sanchez, Chadli, Sigurdsson, Boyd
    Aguero, Austin, Costa

    2ft, 0 mill

    Suggestions?

Chadli to Downing, Costa to Rooney maybe?

Baines Austin > Bartley Rooney ( alot wont agree with me but if its me i would do it) i think Mirallas and barkely wont create much chances for Baines to get pionts.

Interesting, but I'm not prepared to give up Baines and Austin for an injury doubt Rooney and Bartley who will eventually end up on Swansea's bench

QPR v Leicester was touted as a low scoring affair because of history, that didn't quite work out.

          Maybe it won't.

But Sunderland shut out Chelsea very well.

City looked poor until Southampton had to push against them...

Cities 3rd game in a week

          All adds up.

If Sunderland allow City the pocession the allowed Chelsea, with Agueros movement then they will concede. Bearin mind the team City beat 3nil last time out put 8 past Sunderland.

Heyup all, scratching my head over these transfers, any help would be appreciated:

    A) ADM > Oscar
    B) ADM > Eriksen
    C) ADM > Downing
    D) ADM, Clyne > Hazard, 4.9 def (-4)
    E) ADM, Bego > Hazard, 4.4 Gk (-4)

    Already own Alexis, Fabregas, Siggy

They did last year. And lost.

Same result 4x on the bounce isn't a fluke.

And no Kompany always screws city over.

I don't fancy Hutton and Villa keeping a CS any time soon with Vlaar and Senderos out. Which defender up to £5.8m is worth a hit? Am considering Chambers or Lescott, funnily enough.
