Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again as Fantasy managers prepare for a quick turnaround in fixtures ahead of tomorrow’s 7.30pm deadline. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s home encounter against Spurs, Sergio Aguero is the standout armband candidate according to the votes cast so far. Despite failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the City talisman has earned over 35% of the votes cast as the champions travel to a Sunderland side that has conceded just two goals in the last four and kept the league leaders at bay on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney is next in line as United look for a fourth straight win under Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils’ skipper has netted in successive league matches and is up against a Stoke defence that has been breached in each of the last seven – he’s persuaded over 16% to give him the nod. Robin van Persie remains a real differential for the Potters’ clash, with just 3% looking to the Dutchman to carry on from last weekend’s goal and assist at home to Hull.

Swansea are heavily backed for the visit of QPR – understandable, given that Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded more goals on their travels than any other team. With six goals in his last seven, Wilfried Bony earns 11% of the votes, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is next in line, having played a part in eight of his side’s 11 home goals so far.

Eden Hazard (7%) and Alexis Sanchez (5%) are also amongst the favourites. With Costa sidelined, Chelsea will be looking for the Belgian to score for the fourth successive home match as Spurs roll up to the Bridge, whilst Sanchez’ owners will be hoping for a return to form – he’s now blanked in each of the last two since being moved back to the flank.

Heaton, Baines, Taylor, Chambers, Alexis, Sterling, Hazard, Siggy, Ayoze, Kun, Rooney - Gilks, Dugg, Cork, Yun

Already did Di MAria and Costa to Sterling and Rooney for -4. If Ayoze doesnºt start, would you do Ayoze to Austin?.

Currently standings for my captain option:

    1. Rooney - Captain, so should play full 90 mins, next match on Monday, in form, on corners, maybe on penalties?
    2. Siggy - What to say about him? Blanked only once at home, safe choice, vs poor QPR's defence
    3. Kun - Safest option as all gonna captain him, but don't like tradition - City haven't scored there in last 4 matches. City can't play vs bus, we saw that vs Stoke and Sunderland got similar CBs as Stoke.
    4. Hazard - Would be higher, but no Costa means less chances for asisst. Only 1 goal and 1 asisst in 4 matches vs Spurs.

I've heard a lot of folks say about the standard of opposition/level they were playing at and it's a fair point no doubt. But this could do an awful lot of good for women's footie and arguably be one of the biggest moments of her life, for someone like James it's just going to be another award (he'll have an entire career chock full of picking them up.) Though his goal was an absolute screamer as well of course.

I remember playing my wildcard right before the deadline, and my oh my did I pull my hair out...Think FPL ended up giving people 5 additional minutes to finish their teams because of the downtime. I managed to save my team seconds before it started updating!

Despite his form before his injury I really can't see Chadli returning to the starting line up for Spurs on Wednesday. For that reason I'm getting rid. Just looking at the way they played it was possibly their best performance of the season, would be foolish of Pochettino to switch things up.

So who to switch him to? Downing or Bolasie?

What would you do with this team? 2 FTs. All players bought at v low prices so selling anyone (except Ulloa) and I'll lose £££. Currently 20k rank

    Fabianski / Green
    Baines / Clyne / Chambers / Naylor / Duff
    Sanchez / Fabregas / Siggy / Chadli / Wanyama
    Aguero / Costa / Ulloa

You wont lose £££ by transferring players out...team value and spending power are different things, spending power is what matters.
Cash in on the guys that rose in value for you when they hit crap form and/or fixtures, dont hesitate.

But if you want a good bencher (or possible starter) whose price is rising then Kane is the man, he'll be at 5.5 by Christmas, Ulloa out.
Duff to Clichy too if you can afford it
