[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

A 2-0 win over QPR handed Swansea a sixth clean sheet of the season but Tuesday evening’s triumph came at a cost for Garry Monk’s side as ever-present Neil Taylor toppled off the Suspension Tightrope. After earning his fifth caution of the campaign, the left-back is one of four players who are set to serve a one-match ban this weekend as he sits on the sidelines for the Welsh club’s trip to West Ham.

Chelsea are once again deprived of a first-team regular due to suspension ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s trip to Newcastle. This time round Jose Mourinho needs to make do without Nemanja Matic after the midfield enforcer earned a fifth yellow in last night’s home win over Tottenham.

Andi Weimann and Wes Morgan will both miss Villa’s home clash against Leicester. The former earned his fifth yellow in midweek, while the latter received his marching orders against Liverpool. Morgan’s absence offering Liam Moore the chances of a rare start for the visitors but, up against Christian Benteke, he may well struggle to bring in the points as Nigel Pearson’s side attempt to improve upon a run of one clean sheet in ten Gameweeks.

Taking stock of the Tightrope after the midweek matches, we now have 22 players sitting just one caution away from a ban. Essentially, one more yellow card in the next five Gameweeks (until the extension kicks in on January 1) for any of them will trigger an automatic one-match suspension. From a Fantasy perspective, Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas (sitting in 51% of sides) is the most high profile, though owners of the likes of Graziano Pelle, Vincent Kompany, Morgan Schneiderlin, Daryl Janmaat and Ryan Shawcross also have cause for concern.

Stoke, Southampton and Hull are most affected here – each of those sides have a trio of players teetering on the Tightrope as we head towards Gameweek 15.

As Fantasy managers are more than aware, Diego Costa is back for Chelsea after sitting out last night’s clash against Spurs. There’s no doubt his disciplinary record on the road is a worry, though – having been booked in all five away appearances, he’ll need to curb his enthusiasm for fear of facing another suspension later in the season.

Newcastle welcome back a couple of midfielders for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s side, with Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko looking set to return to first-team duties. City’s defensive worries also ease a little as Everton roll up to the Etihad. With Vincent Kompany expected to remain on the sidelines, Eliaquim Mangala is available once again, after sitting out Wednesday’s trip to Sunderland.

Finally, Gaston Ramirez and Claudio Yacob will serve the last of three-match bans this weekend as Hull welcome West Brom to the KC.

so benteke scores his first goal since coming back 4rm injury and lots of pple are already jumping on him

you dont learn 4rm mistakes. first of all, benteke is a bad piece of business, villa are not scoring much.
2nd i don't think one goal is enough to say he has hit form. that is 1 bandwagon that is sure to fail
as i once said tadic bandwagon will fail,
i would like to say the following bandwagon's will also fail

    yaya
    benteke

Hmm. For me Tadic scored 5.71ppg, not a fail for purchase price of 7.5 and value gain of 0.2 at selling.

Predicting Austin wagon to fail is more than risky, since his price means that a couple of goals is enough to make it good, and he already started out well. Notice that people probably will not play him in every match and he started already to deliver in the first expected match, against Leicester. I do expect a decent return also at home against Burnley, WBA, Palace and Swans, and probably will just not play him in the other matches. At his price, he doesn't have to score like Aguero not to fail. >5ppg in those 4 and we should be well satisfied with our less than 6.0 investment.

Benteke is another thing. Nobody can doubt his class, but that of Villa is a doubt.

well, I did Pelle to Benteke and think its reasonable.

Pelle is dropping tonight and Benteke has Leicester defence to stroll through this weekend with nice fixtures to follow.

You were probably still in your egg when Benteke scored 19 goals in a season, so I will help you understand his potential. Hes strong, decisive and very difficult to contain when on form and confident and could easily have a 4 goal month.

If not, I've protected my team value and taken a reasonable punt. If he explodes with only 0.5 ownership then I'm laughing, at you.

Can anybody explain me why Spurs keep starting Loldado and Lennon? And why Stambouli can't get a start in PL? He has been cracking in EL, and even those 20 minutes he got in PL, he was outstanding.

Lennon is the only winger that stretches a defence and doesn't come inside.

Soldados hold up and link up play is brilliant and Kane can't play lone striker.

Mason, Bentaleb, Dembele, Capoue are all better than Stambouli

      1. Camp No No
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 4 months ago

Loldado's hold up and link up play is surely not brilliant. It exists, but it is so far from brilliant, so amazingly far from brilliant that that cannot be the reason why he's on field.

I would like to hear how the guys you listed are better than Stambouli. I bet that statement is coming to haunt you in future. He is by far the best and most tenacious tackler and pass interceptor in the team, and more comfortable with the ball than Mason and Bentaleb.

Lennon, I can half accept. But what do you do with a winger who does little with ball and doesn't defend at all?

    2. Not Irish
      • 12 Years

Soldado and Lennon have been two of their better players lately. Why Lamela continues to play is the big mystery. Not really all that impressed by Stambouli though.

Costa showing as protected on 0% on FFF. (Oddly, it did say he's rise tomorrow though, earlier.. now >2 days.)

Good timing. Both FFF and FPLStatistics have him down as being protected. I'm not 100% sure I understand it myself as the protection rules are certainly different to last season, but these two sites seem to be the best for price changes this year, so I'm going with what they say. I don't expect Costa to rise before deadline. But FFF has a 'Next Gameweek' flag for next price change so, if he is protected, I'm not really sure why they don't use that instead of '> 2 days'.

Actually, i remember them completely missing out on a Costa rise earlier this season as he was price protected in their site. Might be the same case again

          11 years, 4 months ago

Yeah, I don't really understand why he'd be protected. He wasn't even injured.. it was suspension. Doesn't make much sense to me.

            11 years, 4 months ago

I don't think it matters if it's injury or suspension. I remember hearing that after red flag player is protected for something like 8 days

              11 years, 4 months ago

Let's hope you're right. 🙂 It's reassuring both sites are saying it. Thanks Chambo.

Indeed! 😀 Spotted your name in the live comments, so thought I'd ask. Thanks as always. 🙂

It did say "Tomorrow" on FFF earlier which is strange. His transfers have slowed since then. The guy above says FPLS is showing protected until the middle of next week, which I doubt. However, if he's even protected just in this GW, that's good for me. 🙂 Ta very much!

The thing is both have been in great form lately and I am not sure they will be dropped as soon as Debuchy and Kolarov are back. Which one would you pick? Clichy has the fixtures but Chamber plays for more solid team and gets BAPs. Any thoughts?

First post on here and think I replied to another comment first time round!

    My Team:

    DeGea Manonne
    Clyne Baines Chambers Wisdom Bruce
    Wanyama Sig Chadli Fab Mata
    Aguero Costa Austin

Suddenly it feels terrible! Thinking of either a -4 to Baines > Azi and Fab > Sanchez - then look to take further -4 to regain Chelsea mid coverage next week with Hazard?

The other option I have is a WC play to get in the likes of Azi, Sanchez, Hazard, Fab, Downing e.t.c? My usual tactic is to save the WC for the run in though so a bit uncomfortable doing it now!

Doesn't look terrible at all. I would get rid of Mata and try to bring in Haz or Sanchez. Other than that, pretty solid. Not sure about DDG and Mannone, I prefer a single cheap keep.

Selling and never looking back. Downgrading him frees cash to get other decent picks

    Team for this weekend:

    Adrián
    Terry - Chambers - Hutton
Yaya Touré - Alexis - Hazard - Siggy
    Kun - Bony - Ings

    Elliot - Boyd - Wsidom - Dummett

1 FT and 0 in the bank. Any changes necessary or save the FT?

As far as I can see azpilicueta got rested for one game during December
The Boxing Day game v Swansea
Not sure if rested to give cashley a game or a farewell chance or slight injury, but it is hardly what I Would call rotated.

And that was when they had a decent left back to fill in

Cole wasn't exactly at his best last season. Luis a better option.

He has played in five games in league and yet to get CS

Point was people were saying azpi got rotated last December , one game isn't really rotation

Fair enough. He's probably the best fullback in the league. Frustrated I didn't go for him a few weeks ago.

    Thoughts on this;

I know I need rid of Bego ASAP.

    ------------------- Begovic -------------------
    ---- Cresswell ---- Baines ---- Azpi ----
    Sigurdsson -- Downing -- Sanchez -- Fabregas
    ----- Costa -- Austin(C) -- Aguero -----

Myhill - Chambers - Bruce - El Ahmadi

None probably, unless you want to spread cover, in which case Oscar.
Eriksen would be a good replacement

    What's the consensus on Cissé?

Thinking about Sterling + Welbz to Haz + Cissé (or any other >6.1 striker)
