With double Gameweek 16 behind us, we refocus our attentions on the key stats in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game. As always, we cast an eye over the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends before taking a look at the Scout team and our plans for Gameweek 17.

Gameweek 16 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
West Brom vs ArsenalSanti Cazorla
Burnley vs Aston VillaDanny Ings
Liverpool vs StokeRaheem Sterling

Swansea vs QPRRobert Green
Crystal Palace vs Aston VillaBrad Guzan
West Brom vs West HamKevin Nolan
Arsenal vs SouthamptonFraser Forster
Chelsea vs TottenhamEden Hazard
Everton vs HullJames Chester
Sunderland vs Man CitySergio Aguero

Three goalkeepers, two defenders, ten midfielders and five forwards picked up the accolades this week. Eden Hazard earned his fifth MoTM over the double bringing him to within two points of fellow midfielder Cesc Fabregas – those who stuck with Hazard (like myself) are slowly reaping the rewards. A special mention goes to Danny Ings and Sergio Aguero, who caught the reporters’ eye in both fixtures to reward their owners – Aguero now has four MoTM awards, just one behind Hazard.

Gameweek 16 Bonus Points

Six goalkeepers achieved bonus points from collecting five or more saves. Brad Guzan was the man to have between the sticks over the double – the American conceded only one goal, kept a clean sheet, grabbed a MoTM award and picked up save bonus to earn a total of 15 points. Robert Green still leads the way for keepers with 14 bonus points.

In defence, 17 players grabbed bonus, 12 for tackles and eight for passes completed. Sylvain Distin, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling all collected bonus twice over the double with the United centre-backs picking up passing in both – testament to Louis Van Gaal’s new style of play. Liverpool centre-backs Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel are the top performing defenders in terms of bonus with 14 additional points so far.

In midfield, there were 33 beneficiaries in total: 22 for tackling and 23 for passes. A number of midfielders earned bonus twice over the double but a special mention to Cesc Fabregas and Marouane Fellaini who picked up bonus three times in the two fixtures to earn themselves an extra six points. Morgan Schneiderlin is still bossing the bonus points overall with 28 extra points.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
CostaChelsea9.513%
di MariaMan United8.611%
SchneiderlinSouthampton6.66%
PelleSouthampton7.43%
SterlingLiverpool7.82%

Diego Costa’s suspension at home to Spurs spelled the end for 13% of Fantasy managers, although the Chelsea striker has been confirmed to start by Jose Mourinho away to Newcastle tomorrow lunchtime. Angel di Maria and Morgan Schneiderlin were absent due to injury and look like missing the coming weekend’s action once again. Graziano Pelle and Raheem Sterling have been short of form recently, though Sterling did pick up a MoTM and an assist over the double, perhaps hinting to a return to his best.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AgueroMan City9.88%
SanchezArsenal9.55%
HazardChelsea8.93%
BonySwansea8.23%
SigurdssonSwansea6.43%

It’s hard to argue against any of these players finding their way into our Fantasy teams. Sergio Aguero, Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard are, of course, the heavy hitters in real form at the moment and look primed to continue their run of points. Swansea’s deadly duo Wilfried Bony and Gylfi Sigurdsson have also been in good form and have clearly been targeted for their good run of fixtures.

ITB: 1.1m
Transfers remaining: 25/40
Last week’s points: 131

Notes
A decent haul at last for my team, largely due to Eden Hazard, Raheem Sterling and, of course, Sergio Aguero. As my captain, Sterling picked up MoTM in the first encounter then an assist in the second before my armband switch to Aguero for his 20-point haul at the Stadium of Light worked wonders.

As for future plans, I have my eye on Wayne Rooney, Aaron Ramsey and Yaya Toure. Rooney has always been a Sky favourite and has been in great form in between his injuries – if he can keep himself fit, I can see him racking up a lot of points in the near future. Ramsey and Yaya have both started to up their game in recent weeks and a check of the member stats will help to back up that argument – both also regularly contribute passing bonus to help them tick over.

Captain plan
For Saturday, I’m sticking with Sergio Aguero at home to Everton. Although there are a number of decent options that day, I don’t think you can look past his form at present.

On Sunday, I’m considering handing the armband to Stewart Downing for his home tie against Swansea. Although I’m not expecting fireworks from the Hammers midfielder, the fact that he features on the first day of Gameweek 18 (away to Sunderland) plays a part in my planning.

The other option is to just keep it on Aguero and go with only one captain. On the upside, this would mean he’s my skipper for a plum away fixture at Leicester next weekend, so it’s a question of quality over quantity. I’ll most likely make the decision based on Aguero’s Everton performance.

If you fancy the three captains option and want to take advantage of Monday night’s match, then a Saints player looks the best option considering they play on Saturday in Gameweek 18.

I'm selling chambers for Yun after this weekend. He's a rotation risk now that Debuchy is back, plus I'm using the cash to finance Fabregas to Hazard.

Considered doing Cesc and Naylor to Sanchez and Dummett for a -4 for GW8. Talked myself out of it since I had Welbeck already and Newcastle were pony at the back. Ended up captaining Welbeck over Aguero too and didn't get the double 19 point haul.

Aguero ahead by 5 goals with 66, Rooney ahead by 7 assists with 26.

      87-85, Rooney.

I knew it would be close but I expected Aguero to be just ahead. Though on current form I think he could easily be at season's end if he stays fit.

Aguero 66 PL goals 26 Assists
Rooney 61 PL goals 32 Assists

      Looks good until

      Aguero = 7092 minutes played
      Rooney = 8157 minutes played

Difference of 1065 minutes = Rooney has played approximately 12 full matches more than Aguero.

That they would but then we get into talk of is his goal scoring better from a support position or an out and out striker position, who is supporting them etc etc.

Aguero is better in my view, better player overall and a much better attitude but there's no doubt that Rooney is a top footballer.

Better attitude? How do you figure?

And Rooney is a better footballer. I don't care what anyone says. Seen Aguero have little to no influence on matches a fair few times for City. And the one season Rooney was run out up top consistently he scored more goals than Aguero ever has in the PL.

It's because people are so thick and biased when discussing Rooney. It's ridiculous.

The stats being what they are with everything else Rooney does for United and the consensus is Aguero is superior.

Rooney has twice threatened to ditch United for a bigger paycheck (going to PL rivals such as City and Chelsea no less), he has had disciplinary issues in the club and has been a general shit many times. Maybe I'm wrong but I've never heard of Aguero telling City to pay him more or he'd leave for Chelsea/United. That has a big impact on the attitudes of the other players around you.

Rooney's control and touch aren't better, instinct is right up there with Aguero's though. Same argument can be made for Rooney, I've seen United need a man to dig in and get them out of trouble many times and plenty of those times he hasn't delivered.

As for the front man thing, you're right but we may get to see this season Aguero remain relatively injury free, play similar minutes as Rooney did that season and can see how many goals he gets. Even then, it won't matter because the comparison is flawed to begin with.

See, you're just spewing hate. That first paragraph is nothing more than your personal angst against Rooney, which is very typical.

How do you think Aguero would react to playing second fiddle to anyone? Think he would put a shift in wide left or in CM for City without growing tired of it?

                Didn't think so...

Well I am a United fan so I don't see how it is typical, it is the absolute truth. Rooney has threatened to ditch the club a couple of times for more money. I have no angst against him at all, I don't know him and he's an important player for the club I support. If you can't accept that United players have negative qualities as well that's fine, but that's your issue.

I have absolutely no idea, we'd have to see if that situation ever arose but I can guarantee you that you have absolutely no idea either. All I am presenting is what we know so far, Wayne Rooney has threatened to leave United a couple of times previously. That is it.

It is typical. United fans are almost as bad as Pool fans as they feel he's "disgraced the club" or summat. He was never getting more money anywhere else. He wanted to leave the first time firstly because he was tired of being shunted all over the pitch and he thought he was on a sinking ship, which he was I might add. Wanted to leave again because just when he was set to play in his favored position with Kagawa in the hole Fergie went for RvP. It's always been about his position. I don't know why people are so thick when it comes to Rooney that they can't see this.

And as far as attitude goes I don't care about it unless it hinders the clubs or hurts us on the pitch. And Rooney's been nothing but a team player all the way on the pitch, to his personal detriment as a player.

And you're kidding yourself if you think for one second Aguero would even entertain the prospect of playing OOP for City. Few footballers of his quality would, which is what makes Rooney all the more special.

Well then why did he cite financials? Why did he specifically demand wage increases if it was solely about position? Such as when he demanded the increased wages from Moyes in his new contract? Because he threatened to leave then as well.

Second, you can stop attributing your issues with United fans to me, I don't think he has disgraced the club, I don't think anything like that and I've followed his proposed moves away from United intently because I do follow the team. Now as for not damaging the players on the pitch or the club, it is hard to know. I can't say if he has damaged us on the pitch or not certainly.

Finally, you are making the statement that Aguero is poorer because he wouldn't entertain the prospect of playing OOP but then are saying Rooney is special because he will play OOP. However your first paragraph directly says that the reason Rooney wanted out was because he was being asked to play OOP. So essentially he's a special player because he will play OOP but will occasionally demand to leave the club for doing so. Got it.

Because he deserved it? Is it so shocking that he would demand to be paid as the top footballer he is? He's not out of line when you consider the "brand" he brings to the table which few footballers in the world do.

And if you're asserting that he's damaged the confidence of other players then those players should've never been at the club in the first place. And I doubt I'd disagree with him on most as we've had some real dross on the books for a while.

Apologies on that last point. I meant to write that few players could rather than would. Although the point that most if not all wouldn't even entertain it still stands.

There's deserving huge wages and then there's deserving wages on a level of Messi and Ronaldo. Personally I don't think Rooney brings to the team or club what Messi or Ronaldo do to Barcelona and Real but that is just me. He is paid very similarly to them (especially with the other part of his contract that lets his PR firm take a big chunk of branding worth multiple millions a year) and as such he is going to be compared at that pay scale.

Not damaged the confidence but it is poor for some of the younger players to see a senior figure in the club acting in such a way, at least that is my take on it but I will readily accept that could be entirely wrong.

The issue here is that you are stating as fact that Aguero would not entertain the idea etc. but the real point is we simply do not know. What we do know is that Rooney will do it but demand to be paid equivalent to Messi or Ronaldo and occasionally threaten to leave. Would Aguero respond worse or better? I don't know, my gut feeling is better but that's just a gut feeling. I will probably never know.

Probably did but 12 PL games worth of a difference is big. Then you have all the other stuff such as what opposition etc. Too many variables.

Yeah but you can't hold that against Rooney for being more resilient, it's a Kun detractor that he's fragile, not an excuse.

But it doesn't impact the quality of the player. Talent has little to do with injury issues.

I'm not holding it against Rooney that Aguero has fewer minutes but I don't think you can say that Rooney scored only 5 fewer than Kun from positions other than striker and then turn around and say that Kun missing 1000 minutes of gameplay isn't fair to bring into the equation.

Overall impact is certainly hindered if a player can't stay on the pitch.

But we're talking about the better player, the one with more quality. As I say above you may even get a chance to see this season, if Aguero gets similar minutes to when Rooney had his highest scoring season, what he produces.

Maybe so. But then if we were to actually sort our team out, give Rooney top quality service and play him up top consistently maybe we'd see the best of him eh.

Well then we'd have to have exactly equal service to both Aguero and Rooney. Once again a reason this entire comparison is utterly flawed.

If anything Aguero's service has been better, clearly.

Okay I won't cop out so. Rooney's top level for United has been 26 and 27 goals.

Aguero's has been 23 goals his first season for City. For 26 goals Rooney played about 200 minutes, or 2 full games, more than Aguero, for 27 he played a little under 3 full games.

                        Rooney goals per game (27) = 0.85/game
                        Rooney goals per game (26) = 0.86/game
                        Aguero's goal per game (23) = 0.8/game

                        Rooney wins both seasons.

                        Now assists
Roo got 5 assists in 09/10 (26 goals) and 7 assists in 11/12 (27 goals) while Aguero got 10 assists (2011/2012) all according to Transfermarkt showing that in this situation, Aguero provided more direct assists to team mates than Rooney did.

Perfect comparison, if Aguero stays fit of course, will be this season. He is 26 now, Rooney was 26 when he scored the 27 goals. At the rate Aguero is going currently he's on 1.2 goals per game, superior to Rooney then but it is a long season. If he remains injury free, you'll probably get the best possible comparison you ever will between the two.

Kun would have to score a fair few more goals and assists to be considered on the same level as or better than Rooney. After all he doesn't offer what Roon does for United in defense or buildup play. If he stays fit and is the main man firing City to a title I wouldn't have such a problem with the "minutes per" argument. But until then...

The point I was more making was basing it on when Rooney played much more frequently in the striker role, in 2011/2012 he was the main man up top for United and got his highest ever goal tally though he didn't fire them to win the league (finished 2nd iirc).

That would be the best comparison, Rooney played up top most of that season, he was 26 years of age (same as Kun) and he had his best season. If Kun can get similar minutes this season playing in the same position at 26 we can see how he does, closest you will get if you want to compare.

I'm hoping we get a chance to see Rooney's best in the future. With the team we're building ATM he could score more up top for sure.

It is the concern with the likes of Falcao hanging about (though if United could get Falcao into the same type of form he's had in other leagues, that would be outstanding).

Roo's biggest issue now is age I guess, 29 now so he'll have to get himself reinstated up top soon enough or we may unfortunately never see him there again.

I think it;s now Panti's to lose, same as it was Mannone's at the start of the season.

I think at home to teams in the lower half Sunderland will do well, they've only taken hidings to Saints when everyone was off colour, and City where they were knackered snd up against a rampant Aguero
