Fantasy managers are on red alert this evening after Sergio Aguero was forced off after just six minutes of City’s 1-0 home win over Everton. Clearly distraught, the Argentine left the pitch in tears amid fears he’s set to spend a spell on the sidelines and post-match, Manuel Pellegrini could offer little to reassure us.

When quizzed on his star striker’s injury, the City boss could only offer:

“Sergio has a knee ligament problem and we will see tomorrow how serious it is. It is not good news and we will see tomorrow when he [visits the doctor] but he won’t be able to play next week. We must wait for the doctor to see how [bad it is] but the important thing is he won’t be fit for the Roma game. We will see tomorrow, but at the moment, we’re not sure [about the length of the injury].”

City travel to Roma on Wednesday in the Champions League and we can certainly expect an early-week prognosis from Pellegrini, affording us time to re-assess our three-man frontlines ahead of the weekend.

Clearly, if Aguero has indeed suffered ligament damage, our worst fears will be realised and could force him out of contention for some time. The South American has lit up the Premier League with 14 goals and three assists and proven the most reliable captaincy contender around – with a goal or assist in 10 of his 15 appearances, Aguero’s explosive potential has seen him serve up hauls of 19, 13 and 16 points in the last eight Gameweeks.

In spite of his displays for Chelsea, Diego Costa, by comparison, has produced a top score of seven points from Gameweek 5 onwards. Whilst the Blues striker is the obvious alternative if Aguero is ruled out, his inability to earn bonus makes him a less appealing captaincy contender. Indeed, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez suffering since moving out wide and Eden Hazard yet to score away from home, Aguero’s possible absence would make the armband conundrum that little bit more difficult in any given Gameweek, as our heavy-hitters struggle for consistency.

Up front, Aguero’s withdrawal came on a day that eight of 14 teams failed to find the net – underlying the paucity of options for our three-man frontlines right now. Charlie Austin’s fine form continued only for the R’s frontman to be sent off against Burnley, leaving the likes of Wilfried Bony, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie the chance to stake a claim for consideration over the next couple of days’ action. Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic could prove unlikely heroes for City but bearing in mind that Aguero has played a part in 65% of his side’s goals when on the pitch this season, the pair have big shoes to fill.

Perhaps we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves but Aguero’s previous when it comes to injuries has many owners understandably on edge. Given that City now face Leicester, Palace, West Brom, Burnley and Sunderland in successive matches, we’ll hold fire for now in the hope that Pellegrini’s initial prognosis was wide of the mark but exit plans will be tentatively penciled in as we eagerly await the next update.

Aguero Replacement Options- the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

    Morning all.

Obviously we don't know the extent or severity of Aguero's injury, but from initial observations and reports, it looks like he could be out for while. I've compiled just a few options to consider for replacing him in our teams (loosely based on form, fixtures and opinion).

The Good: Rooney, Benteke, Lukaku, Bony, Kane, Dzeko/Jovetic*

The Bad: RVP, Ings, Welbeck, Lambert

    The Ugly: Costa

    *game time dependent

Let me know your thoughts 🙂

Hah! Kane seems to be nailed and has good fixtures. Was unlucky not to get any points from the last two fixtures. Dzeko really depends on his game time. Pellegrini will look to him and Jovetic to step up in Aguero's absence and with those fixtures he could score big. One to watch closely IMO.

    foster --- krul
naylor (TOT) clichy (lei) chambers --- yun (eve) chester (che)
siggy eriksen hazard sanchez arfield (SOT)
    rooney Kun --- austin

    1) will debuchy def replace chambers? if so, i can ship him out even tho i have lots of value tied up in in him.

So best thing i can think of is Kun + chambers >> Costa/Bony/Dzeko + any def i want? (-4)

          Awaiting updates.
          All we have is speculation..

BUT all the evidence suggests at the very least a partial ligament tear... 3- 6weeks. and could be as severe as an ACL tear.

I really can't decide whether to do this -8 or not. I could get a decent team out with no hits potentially... What do you think?

    Fabianski

    Clyne, Baines, Hutton

    Downing, Sanchez, Siggy, Ox

    Bony, Benteke, Aguero

    4m, Yun Fabregas, Chambers

    Could do

    A) Aguero + Fabregas + Chambers > Costa + Yaya + Azpi/Terry.

    B) Or just switch Aguero for no hit.

I want to get Yaya in eventually, but can't do it w/o -4. (Sigurdsson -> Yaya, Pelle -> Bojan or 5.6m)

      Yikes - no WC?

I'd get whichever player/s you think will get you the most points regardless of filling positions at this point.

Forget the GK for now if you like.
Aguero replacement 1st, Fab is up to you.

I wouldn't forget the gk, if you see a gk that you like longer term that has a chance of a cs this week take the hit for him otherwise you could go 3 or 4 weeks by the time you spare a transfer for him in which time even with no cs a playing gk could have racked up 12pts or so. Wait and see how long eliott is out for though ofc.

Personally I think Chelsea look locked for a cs this weekend so once the worst is confirmed you could do kun to another forward chambers to Chelsea def and a new gk all for a -8. With dummet unlikely to get anything from arsenal away I'd be tempted by a -12 eve and do fab to hazard too

      Any cash?
Krul to Guzan/Foster, Chambers to Taylor and Fab to Downing/Oscar. You are sorted 🙂
      If AGUERO is OUT:
Aguero to Bony, Fab to Hazard and Krul to Fabianski/Guzan/Foster, Duff/Chambers to Hutton

    Guzan McCarthy
    Dummett chambers Azpi Baines naylor
    Fab Hazard Siggy Downing Wanyama
    Aguero Rooney Austin

    If Aguero out:

    A) Fab/Aguero to costa/yaya (minus 4)
    B) fab/Aguero to Sanchez/costa (minus 4)
    C) one of above and also chambers to clichy (minus 8)
    D) fab/Wanyama/Aguero to costa/erikson/mirallas (minus 8)

      Sanchez and Costa looks good.

Feel like there are other good strikers apart from Costa though. His price makes him an obvious switch for Aguero but I wonder if that blinds us to better, cheaper options.

True I have resisted him all season as I don't like his lack bonus and yellows but home against hull? Also top of my mini league and rest have him as obvious captain
I do like the idea of Rooney and two cheaper forwards and investing Kun money in midfield but that depends how long he's out for

Similar troubles Aguero to lukaku Chambers to baines maybe.

I think I might do my team intoxicated this weekend c if luck changes
