Fantasy managers are on red alert this evening after Sergio Aguero was forced off after just six minutes of City’s 1-0 home win over Everton. Clearly distraught, the Argentine left the pitch in tears amid fears he’s set to spend a spell on the sidelines and post-match, Manuel Pellegrini could offer little to reassure us.

When quizzed on his star striker’s injury, the City boss could only offer:

“Sergio has a knee ligament problem and we will see tomorrow how serious it is. It is not good news and we will see tomorrow when he [visits the doctor] but he won’t be able to play next week. We must wait for the doctor to see how [bad it is] but the important thing is he won’t be fit for the Roma game. We will see tomorrow, but at the moment, we’re not sure [about the length of the injury].”

City travel to Roma on Wednesday in the Champions League and we can certainly expect an early-week prognosis from Pellegrini, affording us time to re-assess our three-man frontlines ahead of the weekend.

Clearly, if Aguero has indeed suffered ligament damage, our worst fears will be realised and could force him out of contention for some time. The South American has lit up the Premier League with 14 goals and three assists and proven the most reliable captaincy contender around – with a goal or assist in 10 of his 15 appearances, Aguero’s explosive potential has seen him serve up hauls of 19, 13 and 16 points in the last eight Gameweeks.

In spite of his displays for Chelsea, Diego Costa, by comparison, has produced a top score of seven points from Gameweek 5 onwards. Whilst the Blues striker is the obvious alternative if Aguero is ruled out, his inability to earn bonus makes him a less appealing captaincy contender. Indeed, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez suffering since moving out wide and Eden Hazard yet to score away from home, Aguero’s possible absence would make the armband conundrum that little bit more difficult in any given Gameweek, as our heavy-hitters struggle for consistency.

Up front, Aguero’s withdrawal came on a day that eight of 14 teams failed to find the net – underlying the paucity of options for our three-man frontlines right now. Charlie Austin’s fine form continued only for the R’s frontman to be sent off against Burnley, leaving the likes of Wilfried Bony, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie the chance to stake a claim for consideration over the next couple of days’ action. Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic could prove unlikely heroes for City but bearing in mind that Aguero has played a part in 65% of his side’s goals when on the pitch this season, the pair have big shoes to fill.

Perhaps we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves but Aguero’s previous when it comes to injuries has many owners understandably on edge. Given that City now face Leicester, Palace, West Brom, Burnley and Sunderland in successive matches, we’ll hold fire for now in the hope that Pellegrini’s initial prognosis was wide of the mark but exit plans will be tentatively penciled in as we eagerly await the next update.

If I already own Costa and Austin, is Rooney the only real Aguero replacement? Tempted by Benteke/Lukaku but can't see them keeping up with a fit Rooney..

Need opinion on this. Have to do the transfer ASAP since it barely fits my budget

    A) Aguero + Sterling -> Rooney + Yaya Toure (-4 pt hit + already have Di Maria + 0.2 ITB)
    B) Aguero + Di Maria + Azpi - > Rooney + Yaya Toure + Azpi (-8 pts hit + keeping Sterling + 0.1 ITB)

    Cheers

Seams almost too simple to put Costa in for Kun (Rooney already owned).

I agree with the comment up above about Costa not being in form and Drogba capable of playing in that position to cover.

It's a lot of money to spend for average production.

Tricky though because on the other hand you will getting Costa in on a plum fixture, where he might recover his form 😐

Although I think it could pay to grow some balls and opt instead for someone like Lukaku or depending on how he plays tomorrow, Benteke.

am thinking this so much. Either player, or any other form striker other than Costa and use the cash to upgrade 5th mid.

for that price to bring back in, he better darn well deliver!

If Costa didn't have HUL it would be quite simple to go with someone else but with that fixture and no Kun to captain, it seems almost necessity.

Completely stuck, lads. Want to get rid of Chadli and Aguero. Maybe Albrighton, too. (So I can play 352 this GW with Austin out & be ready for Christmas)

    Best combo for 19.5?

    Courtois
    Baines, Wisdom, Hutton
    Sanchez, Hazard (VC), Siggy, ***
    ***, Rooney, Austin

    4.0, Naylor, Dummett, Albrighton
    1FT / 0.8 ITB

    ::::: Dead Team Challenge - GW14 Leaderboard Updated :::::

Meant to get this out last night after work and before the game's started, but then I started drinking... but anyway...

Well well well, he's only gone and closed a 23pt gap IN ONE WEEK... huge congrats to Mull, whose dead team is now coming alive with another big scoring week... (or is it?)

He moves onto 781pts and now shares the bragging rights with our perennial contender The Casual, but in a week where there were some big scores in FPL, the dead team's overall ranks really suffered... as this only equates to a rank of about 37k now... still pretty decent but the 10k holy grail now seems a pipe dream...

With Aguero(c), Mull was really making a mid season charge on The Casual, who has Rooney(c) defaulting to Sanchez(c), every time Sanchez gets a haul 😉 very accommodating of Rooney I must say... this is a BIG blow to the title aspirations of Mull it must be said... unlucky mate...

The dead team's are taking blows all across the board now, further proof that it's better to be lucky than good when riding business class on the dead-train...

Congratulations to AnfieldDad and Kalmoffit, who blew the competition out of the water this week, each with an impressive 81pts and a GW rank of around 15k...

In other news, I jumped up to 20th place with a decent 60pts, but with Innsie always managing to stay above me, my next goal is to get and stay above him...

Please click on this link for the latest GW14 leaderboard:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1raAyvT8NYalwe4_-1EqJZBOOcbwjmixKpFu18ySKGVQ/edit#gid=105897223

You can also click on the 'teams' tab and scroll through to check your team individually... the teams are listed alphabetically so that should make it easier to navigate...

And finally, a huge thank you to Billy for his continued work behind the scenes, without his ongoing tech support I doubt I'd be able to do any of this in a timely manner, if at all...

    Thanks...

Alot of people looking at Rooney/RVP to replace Aguero.

Fair enough on paper they may seem good choices, but I cant help but thinking there are better and much cheaper strikers around. Often people see all that money in their bank and feel like they need to spend it.

It's only one week, unless they get Kane.

Will probably keep. Getting Aguero out if he's seriously out for that long with my FT.

Keeping. Home fixture after. Didn't fancy him against Everton (A) anyways. Was considering of benching him, even if he wasn't banned.

Another Aguero option is Cisse with Newcastle on a roll & Cisse proving his quality.

    Aguero out, Cisse in
    Boyd out, Y. Toure in

Thoughts on this for a -4 hit. Will give me:

    Guzan (Elliott)
    Baines, Ivanovic, Hutton (Moore, Chambers)
Sanchez, Hazard (c), Y. Toure, Siggy, Downing
    Bony, Cisse (Austin)

    Thanks in advance.

    Already did -4 for Fabregas+Aguero-> Hazard+Costa.
I was planning to get rid of Berahino(but those reds priority)
Am seriously thinking of -4 more...If sell Berahino then it can be max 9,2 striker.
If I play 2 strikers and wait then I have to play Dummet who is facing Arsenal(also have Chambers but can live with bench him next week.)
    A) Lukaku
    B) Bony
    C) Benteke
    D) Wait one week and then get rid of Berahino

Are people really considering ditching Aguero before you know how bad the injury is? What's best case and worst case scenario here?

Best case is a few weeks probably.

I think he'll miss at least two games, worst case is he misses the season. But that is unlikely.

Well ligaments are never good so think the minimum will be out is a month, plus he will go down almost certainly 0.3 this week along. so if you bought he early enough he will cost the same to get back.
