As we head towards the Gameweek 15 deadline, our thoughts turn to another handful of overlooked options for your morning perusal. We look to QPR’s in-form midfielder and a couple of London-based forwards who’ll both be desperate to take advantage of home fixtures later this afternoon.

Leroy Fer

While Charlie Austin hogs the headlines for QPR, the Dutchman has been quietly ticking over in midfield. An ever-present under Harry Redknapp, Fer picked up a trio of assists in the first 10 Gameweeks before finally opening his account in the R’s previous home match as the hosts overcame Leicester 3-2 in Gameweek 13.

In recent weeks, the 5.5-priced midfielder seems to have upped his attacking intent as Redknapp’s side look for goals to fire them out of trouble. Over the last four Gameweeks, Fer has registered eight attempts on goal and created eight chances for his team-mates – with five shots inside the box over that period, he’s starting to suggest more returns could follow.

Having scored at least twice in each of their last five at Loftus Road, it’s clear that if Redknapp’s side are to survive, they need to take advantage of home comforts – all the more so given that they’ve lost all seven road trips so far. Fortunately for the Londoners, they now have four matches in front of their own fans over the next six (BUR, WBA, CPL, SWA) to aid their survival bid and if Fer can maintain his current form, he could prove a canny budget option, with less than 1% ownership.

Roberto Soldado

Dropped to the bench as Mauricio Pochettino opted for a 4-2-3-1 at the Bridge on Wednesday, the Spaniard looks in line for a recall at home to Crystal Palace later this afternoon. The Spurs boss seems set to go on the attack against the Eagles and, having grabbed his first goal of the campaign in the previous match in front of his own fans, Soldado’s confidence will be on the up.

In spite of their midweek setback, the north London side have been in decent form and are seeking a third win in four this weekend. Neil Warnock’s side have been anything but resilient this season and roll up to the Lane on the back of a run which has seen them collect a single clean sheet in the last 10 Gameweeks. Available for just 7.6 in FPL, Soldado fired more shots inside the box than any Spurs player in their previous home encounter and with matches against Swansea, Burnley and Leicester to follow, may well offer a valid short-term alternative to Harry Kane in Pochettino’s starting XI over the festive fixtures.

Andy Carroll

A home clash against Swansea offers the Hammers target man the chance to atone for his dismissal in the corresponding fixture last season. Carroll tormented the Welsh club that day and his aerial menace served up a pair of assists, with sidekick Kevin Nolan notching both strikes in a 2-0 win before the big Geordie saw red for lashing out at Chico Flores.

Sam Allardyce will be more than aware of Carroll’s previous against the Swans and he may well retain his services in the starting XI as the Hammers look for a third successive league win. Granted, the Hammers boss is set to have Diafra Sakho available but his comments in yesterday’s press conference suggested he may well ease the Senegal striker back into action – given his side’s recent form, there’s no great rush for his return.

As Allardyce’s options increase in the final third, it’s certainly likely that Carroll will succumb to rest and rotation over the packed festive schedule. For this afternoon, though, he still looks in pole position to wreak havoc on a Swansea backline devoid of two of their first-choice back-four and, at a price of 6.9, could appeal to those on the lookout for a weekend flutter.

        That was the first week of those 4 (24, 15, 22, 16). I'm counting Aguero's 16 as his start.

All of them are likelier to do that against weaker than stronger opponent. I would rather have the choice of good players than having a sure 0-2 pointer from bench in case someone doesn't play.

It's never a problem that you have points on bench. The problem is if you don't have points on field.

When you have a 4.5 midfielder (playing one), it leaves you a extra 1-1.5 mil to spend elsewhere.

You have good points, i admit.

Who to play today in Ultimate FPL Wellbeck or Jelavic? The anytime goalscoring odds favour Wellbeck (15/8) v Jelavic (21/10). However in a game thats increasingly hard to gain ground near a top Jelavic is a nice differential. He is owned by 1 out of the 17 managers above me where as Wellbeck is owned by 10 out of the 17. Flipside is obviously the potential to lose ground.

The more detailed rule adds that you can captain him for 15+pt hauls and bench him for his 1/2pters.

    Would you:
A: double up on SOT defence or B: bench Bertie for Boyd? Thanks

I would play Boyd....! Hope for a Southampton CS, but don't think it will happend. So spread the risk and pray for some attacking return from Boyd.

I was sure that this football scout originally had Costa down as suspended until the hull game, I i transfer him out and got bony, then did bony for Benteke, and was going to get Costa back for the hull game. I felt like doing a crazy short term shuffle but never would've if I'd know it was just one game.

Siggy. More consistent, and I see goals from both teams in that match. Think Spurs will beat CP fairly easy today...unfortunately.

If you're buying a Chelsea defender now, who would you get?

    A) Azpili
    B) Terry
    C) Cahill

Doos I posted this the other day, I think you must have missed it

      @Doosra: Belated Happy Birthday,sir! 😀

      Mind having a look here?

      Fabianski
      Ivanovic/Baines/Hutton
      Hazard/Fabregas/Alexis/Siggy
      Kane/Austin (vc)/Kun (c)

      Foster/Boyd/Clyne/Moore

      2 FT's,1.2 million banked.

Is Ivanovic to Azpi the best move I can make this week?

Not in my eyes, it's not. But I am in a small minority. I would do Moore to Dummett, or someone else if you don't like the figures. Naylor, perhaps?

Otherwise, you are still well on top of it. Great team!

          Thanks a lot.

Ivanovic is due a fall soon, maybe today or tomorrow, so that might sway might decision. Ideally I'd like a like for like replacement for Moore (like Yun) in the same price range, because I would hardly be playing the 5th defender anyways. However, Yun is off to the Asian Cup soon so I'm a bit reluctant on that as well.

          It's a tough one, isn't it!

He will play. Who should come in? Arsenal is in a situation where they need every point they can get. So why bench their best player? And besides; he will have 7 days of rest after this match. He wont feature against Galatasaray....

Wenger has said he won't be travelling to Turkey. Arsenal are in no position to rest their only goalscorer in the league.

Would I be crazy to consider Sanchez -> Mirallas to accommodate Pelle -> Aguero?

My team at the moment is:

    Guzan, Foster
    Janmaat, Clyne, Baines, Caulker, Williams
    Sanchez, Chadli, Siggy, Hazard, Larsson
    Pelle, Austin, Costa

Has Giroud's return damaged Sanchez's appeal?

    Cheers

I would rather have Sanchez and Aguero than Aguero and Costa. Can you do Costa -> Aguero? You could also try to downgrade your defence if you want to keep both Sanchez and Costa.

    A) Azpi, I just bought him in to double up Ivan. Just realised Mikel will play, which might weaken the defence though.

You have a little green arrow below your grav. If you like a post up vote it. If it gets a few up votes it brings it to the attention of the mods in case it's been missed. It could then be changed into a hot topic if deemed appropriate.
