After taking a look at those teams with Strong fixtures to follow over the next four-to-six Gameweeks, we now assess those with tougher upcoming schedules. North east pair Sunderland and Newcastle face some testing times, whilst bottom two Burnley and Leicester also have little reason for festive cheer.

Newcastle

“frisking

The Magpies proved their mettle by putting an end to Chelsea’s unbeaten run last Saturday, but must now navigate a horrendous next six if they are to further their cause. Alan Pardew’s men face a tricky encounter with Everton at St James’ Park, as well as three of the toughest away trips around as they make their way to Arsenal, United and Chelsea.

With injury and suspension hitting hard, the Magpies are likely to struggle to rediscover the defensive resilience shown between Gameweeks 8-12 anytime soon, meaning that Daryl Janmaat will need to rely on his attacking raids down the right to earn his owners further returns. Further forward, those eyeing up striker Papiss Cisse after his weekend brace are advised to hold off for now whilst his minutes, and the schedule, look uncertain.

Southampton

“frisking

The Saints are struggling under the strain of expectation after their early season form, and the load could yet increase across the Christmas period. A trip to Burnley is next on the agenda and will at least afford them some respite, but beyond that things still looks unmistakably bleak – Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal make their way to St Mary’s in their next three home encounters, with a visit to Old Trafford lying in wait beyond that.

Without a clean sheet in their last four, owners of Ryan Bertrand and Nathaniel Clyne will have been weighing up an exit route, and that strategy is unlikely to change bearing in mind their imminent schedule. Graziano Pelle, meanwhile, found his scoring boots for the first time in seven appearances against United on Monday, but that return to form could be quickly curtailed, and the Italian will still be hard-tasked to reclaim the plethora of owners he has lost over recent weeks.

Stoke

“frisking

Saturday’s triumphant win over Arsenal brought a three-match losing streak to a close for the Potters, and a trip to Crystal Palace this weekend will offer them a chance to build momentum. That is sure to come in handy, however, as the fixtures then take a severe turn for the worse for Mark Hughes’ side, who meet Chelsea and Everton in their next two and also face consecutive match-ups with United and Arsenal in Gameweeks 20 and 21.

It would be fair to say that Bojan has finally found his feet at the Brittania, and the former Barcelona starlet – alongside fellow striker Peter Crouch – turned in a great advertisement for their budget forward services against the Gunners. However, both are now sure to be tested against some of the league’s tightest defences in the coming weeks, whilst the chances of the Potters’ own rearguard managing their first shutout since Gameweek 6 looks doubtful. Jon Walters’ recent renaissance – with three goals in four – may struggle to continue over that spell.

Also Be Wary Of…

Arsenal
The Gunners may have underlined their potential in last night’s mauling of Galatasaray, but managers should be cautious before jumping on board without a look at their next five fixtures, which contain three tricky away encounters at Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton. Owners of the suspended Calum Chambers will be even more tempted by the idea of getting rid of the young defender as Mathieu Debuchy returns to action, whilst the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck will have to be at their best for the Gunners to prosper over the festive spell.

Burnley
A 2-0 loss to QPR will have come as a bitter blow to Sean Dyche’s men, who had finally strung together a series of results prior to Saturday’s bottom of the table scrap. A potentially spirit-wrecking next four now awaits the Clarets, who visit Spurs and Man City on either side of home clashes with Southampton and Liverpool. With Christmas rotation on the cards, owners of George Boyd may be forced to call upon his services across those fixtures, though he is likely to struggle to replicate his timely Gameweek 14 strike. Up top, Danny Ings has fetched returns in three of his last four outings but his worth as a budget asset looks set for a stiff test.

Leicester
The Foxes are without a win since Gameweek 5, and their chances of turning that dire form around look slim over the upcoming schedule. Nigel Pearson’s side face a trip to West Ham sandwiched in between two home meetings with Man City and Spurs in their next three, and whilst Leonardo Ulloa has showed glimpses of his early season with a goal and two assists in his last three, the striker – who is expected to recover from a calf knock – will have his work cut out to maintain that form in the lead up to Christmas.

So Costa is price protected because he was suspended last weekend?

      11 years, 10 days ago

Apparently so. Its such bollocks that his price is locked for so long really. If it was a proper injury I could understand 10 days locked as there's mass-fluctuation in ownership, but a 1GW suspension doesn't warrant a 10 day lockdown..

    Bottomed last page

    A) Play Hutton (wba) - Derby so decent chance of conceding/YC/RC

    B) Chambers -> Zab (-4)

If Zab was assured a start this weekend I'd definitely do B, not sure if he will though having played away in Rome today

    Morning All,

Basically looking for validation as moves are done!

    Foster/Elliot
    Zabelleta/Clyne/Hutton/Yun/ Ntaylor
    Hazard/Fabregas/Sanchez/Downing/Siggy
    Costa/Bony/Austin

    - plan next week of Haz to Toure. I know this is against the general grain but leading my mini league and all have Fab and Toure and no one has Haz. Mini league is my priority.
    - Bony could become Dzeko later if needs to
    - I do now have benching dilemmas but with xmas rotation ahead happy to have a good 1st sub.

    Any thoughts?

Transfers done , team for this gw (-4)
      __________Heaton
      ____Ivanovic Hutton Baines
      Siggy Hazard Sanchez Yaya Boyd
      _________Kane Costa
      (Mccarthy Yun Austin Chambers )
      3.4itb
Next week looking at Heaton to Hart, seems the best way to tap into City's fixtures
Also thinking of getting Bolasie (Boyd) to rotate with Austin but QPR have quite easyish aways coming and I'm worried Austin could score in them anyway and I'd have him sitting on bench

I'm liking Kane (for now ) seems Adebayor has personal problems and fixtures are made for a Kane purple patch, it would be a lot in defense but if the funds are there I may aswell , Hart is the only reliable City back line option not to be rotated and with those fixtures even Heaton could keep CS, I would rather Bony over Siggy for Swans cover but happy with 3 forwards

I'm looking for some advise as I am struggling with my Aguero replacement strategy. I have 2 free transfers and am considering the following two options:

          A) Sell Aguero and Oscar and bring in Benteke and Yaya (but this leaves my 5th Mid as Boyd)

          B) Sell Aguero and Boyd and bring in Kane and Yaya (leaving me with Oscar)

          Thoughts?

Been thinking long and hard about a suitable Aguero replacement and have finally come to a conclusion. Its Dzeko 😯 purely on the basis of their fixtures and his ability to get massive scores on his day.

I have ruled out the other candidates for the following reasons.

Bony and Austin - I already have them

Benteke - Their next 3 games are straight up awkward, wba away might be alright but then its United then Swansea away. Not that easy I don't think unless there is a dramatic improvement in Villa's attack. I also feel its still a tad too early and Benteke might be a useful Bony replacement in 3 weeks time if Bony's form drops off.

Rooney - It was a bit of a close run thing but only RVP put up some shots against Southampton a worrying sign for Uniteds offensive form right now. At the moment I think Rooney is a bit expensive for what he offers right now

Sakho - I already have Downing but I wouldn't be adverse to doubling up if they had strong fixtures. The problem is however that West Hams fixtures are about to get tough. Sunderland away this week will be very difficult given Sunderlands defensive resilience of late, then after the Leicester game West Ham play Chelsea and Arsenal. Thats 3 tough fixtures in the next 4, so for that reason I'm not doubling up.

Kane - Seems nailed on with Ade back in Togo. The problem is he isn't that good. Not a bad option for the bench perhaps but I think I would prefer to have a stronger front 8. Tottenhams form of late hasn't been particularly good either.

Lukaku - Flatters to deceive as an FPL option, you never know which Lukaku will turn up, his points are very sporadic good fixtures or bad. I would prefer a more reliable option.

I went for Dzeko in the end purely based on fixtures, I own Bony and Austin already. Was strongly considering Benteke but will monitor. Ruled out Rooney based on stats and Costa as I prefer Fab and Hazard

Costa - I already have 3 Chelsea players but I am also of the belief Costa will be rotated for at least one game over the xmas period. Mourinho's recent comments basically confirm this. Costa's form is a problem as well.

            Ryan, agree with all that.
Kane, his number 1 appeal is price. You already have Austin
            Rooney is a close one
Lukaku has burnt me too many times, inconsistent
            Benteke- plays for Aston Villa
Sakho is also close, you have downing and now with Carrol back maybe the focus on play to him

It would be between Bony and Dzeko if i was in your situation and as you have Bony then all good.

            No outside plan for Costa?

Agree with most of this. I have Rooney and would take a switch to Bony if offered (already taken a hit this week). I have faith in Sakho, however. I feel like he is fixture proof; my only fear is rotation.

Yeah, I reckon you're right. I went Benteke because of no midweek game, but if Dzeko lights the world on fire I'll be quick to jump on that bandwagon. Conspicuous in his absence from your list is Costa. There are definite questions as to whether he's worth his price tag but the fixture this week is really scary as a non owner.

Good post. Allow me to counter with a couple of points -

            1. You ignored Costa, who had 61.5% ownership in the top 10k and should reach 80% by this weekend as he's the highest transfered-in player, and currently has 55% ownership overall. Its a minor risk given Drogba's and Remy's form, but if Costa plays then HULL stoke are two fixtures he could score well in.

            2. Dzeko looked lethargic tonight, while Jovetic looked much more lively in his 15-20mins at the end. With Silva and Yaya getting back into the team, and Milner and Navas in good form, I highly doubt that Pellegrini is going to play both Jovetic+Dzeko together, so you're taking a massive gamble there (and then there's also Pozo who might get some gametime, though thats unlikely). Dzeko hasn't scored in 10 games either, so even if he starts he's hardly on form.

              1 - see above, apologies

2 - you are right 😆 Its difficult as there are no easy options and Dzeko has no form to speak of. Its definitely a fixtures over form situation. Although I completely understand the reverse and backing the likes of Sakho and his form despite fixtures.

Yes Costa should see rotation, but the way I see it is that with no clear-cut striker to replace Aguero he's the one that i'd lose out most on not owning due to ownership. Its possible he won't score as much, but its equally possible he could have a hatrick against one of the leagues worst defensive teams away from home (measured in shots conceded in the box) 🙂

See at the moment I can't envisage Costa getting a hattrick, his form simply isn't good enough. I'm backing what I see and Costa doesn't look all that great at the moment. I won't let ownership get in the way of what I see when I watch him play.

If i'm not getting a 100% nailed-on striker I'd rather put my money on Costa for the next 2 gw's before getting bentekkers

The whole point of my arguement was Hazard will deliver on his promise. He has proved it for 2 seasons now. Even last season he started slowly but then had a terrific run fantasy wise until February. Tadic wasn't proven by any means & except that crazy haul he did nothing special. Bdw. he wasn't cheaper £2.5m than Hazard at the time. My point is you emphasize too much on underlying stats. Even I consider it but only to some extent. If you had seen the games then it's quite apparent Hazard was a class above Tadic.

I'll break up my argument for the sake of clarity (on my part): 🙂

            1. Hazard will most likely deliver, but up until then he hadn't.
            2. I got Tadic at 7.5m and Hazard cost 10m, thats 2.5m to me.
            3. I do emphasize underlying stats excessively, but that approach has gotten me to an 11.9k rank in my first season with a steady rise in the rankings (10 of 13 green arrows since GW2), so its an approach that seems to work 🙂
            4. I obviously agree that Hazard is a class above which is why I bought Hazard (and even went so far as to WC to get it done), but at the time he wasn't bringing the bacon home to justify paying 2.5m more over Tadic... or more relevantly - not 1.7m more than Oscar. As it happened Oscar got 17 points in the 3 fixtures i owned him for, while Hazard got 23 in those 3, so its a 50/50 debate really, though I'd argue that I got more than 6 points out of that 1.7m in those 3 weeks so I was right 😀

Re: 3, If this is your first season then don't start thinking you've found the magic formula. I say this from experience! In my first season I did well, thought I knew everything and then finished 250k the next season! Had to completely reevaluate my thinking, and now I've been a bit more consistent.

Stats are, IMO, a small part of the game, because some players aren't very good with their end product. Stats are good when you know a player is good enough and just want to check he is getting in the positions.

Haha fair point. I'm sure I'll learn my lesson, but of course I'm not using stats in isolation, but rather as one of many factors that guide my decision. I generally use these things:

                1. Stats (last 6gw's for defenders, 4gw's for attackers... learnt this from approach from Doosra actually, and it works well)
                2. Buying/selling trends - can guide what others think, and factor into my budget thinking
                3. The "eye" test from watching games
                4. Following advice from people here - both the "experts" as well as the others like me 🙂

No - I was slating Trigger for castigating and patronizing others based on his rank - there's a very big difference. I used my rank simply to highlight that the approach seemed to work for me, but didn't use it to condescend. I respect people's opinions no matter what their rank is, but that doesn't seem to be the case with him.

Fair enough. My part of arguement is you get points for future events. You can take past events as a guide but that can't be the ultimate judgement in anticipating players' potential in future. Tadic had amazing stats, I agree but I never thought he'd keep up pace with Hazard. As far as Oscar is concerned the debate was settled last season only so not sure how you fell for that trap again.

P.S. I finished just outside Top 1k last season & too much following stats cost me top 1k (Yaya Toure) 😉

Of course, but in this case I think I played it reasonably well with getting Hazard in just as his form took an upturn and Tadic's took a nose-dive (perhaps a week or two too late in Tadic's case, but that was hard to know since he had great fixtures and was unlucky for the most part, against leicester for example).

My judgement has failed me on several occasions too btw, i'm not saying im an expert by any means.. but it worked this time. If i had gotten sanchez earlier i would be easily in the top 5k by now, but i'm not going to complain with my ranking 😀

Possibly. Depends if any mids find some form that I like. Besides that I don't really have any plans. See what happens after this week I suppose

Jag down and then Marney could become someone in the Yaya range? Not great at maths, that may work

Nothing has changed. He was a rotation risk with Kolarov coming back. He still is & will continue to be.

Aguero, Welbeck, Chadli, Begovic => Bony, Dzeko, Yaya, Pantillimon?

this. Would rather spend extra and get Caulker. Or even Robertson. Depends on rotation... I can recommend Wisdom/Hutton/Caulker in rotation

that trio has gotten me 6-8-4-1 for 19 points total in the last 3 gw's, and it would have been 26 if i hadn't kneejerked hutton out 2 gw's ago! They rotate really well

Good question. All I know is that he's first choice right now, of course that doesn't mean to say he won't be rested for a midweek game. At least when it comes to defenders though they are perhaps more likely to not be subbed on allowing for your 1st sub to come into the team if he is rested.

I've taken a punt for Benteke. Decision may well come back to haunt me but just not convinced with Dzeko at the moment. Also means can upgrade defence and get ADM back maybe in place of Siggy when fit again.

This Aguero replacement is a tough one eh!

Think I'm down to Lukaku, Bony or Dzeko if making the move this week.

            Best move here?

            A) Krul -> Foster/Panty (and take another week to decide on Kun's replacement)

            B) Krul & Kun -> Hart & Bony/Lukaku/Dzeko (4 points)

            Krul
            Terry, Wisdom, Hutton
            Sanchez, Hazard, Eriksen, Siggy, Downing
            Costa, Kane

            Elliot, Yun, Chambers, Kun

After the 5 UCL games before tonight, Zab has gone on to start 4 of the BPL matches in the coming few days. Such a tough decision. Maybe I'll bite the bullet in case he starts this week. Or, maybe I won't 😛

            My Current Mid and For:

            Haz -- Oscar -- Eriksen -- Brady -- Bolasei
            Aguero -- Rooney -- Bony

            have 2 FTs...

            so Thinking:

            1) Aguero + Oscar --> Silva + Costa this week and Rangel/Trippier --> Zabaleta next week

            or

            2) Aguero + Rangel/Trippier --> Costa + Zabaleta this week and Oscar --> Silva next week...but this will lead me to 3 attack vs Hull..
