As always on a Saturday morning, we roll out a trio of overlooked options for your weekend perusal. We opt for a Hammers’ centre-half at home to Leicester, City’s golden veteran as Palace roll up to the Etihad and the Magpies’ leading scorer ahead of a home derby encounter with Sunderland.

Frank Lampard

Whilst most of the buzz surrounding the Man City midfield focuses on which one of David Silva, Samir Nasri and James Milner will be moved to a False 9 position against Crystal Palace later today, the City veteran continues to fly relatively under the radar, with an ownership of just 1.8%. Lampard is likely to be handed minutes once again this weekend after getting himself on the scoresheet with the winner at Leicester last time out, and with no strikers to rely upon, Manuel Pellegrini will be looking to his midfield for the goals.

Lampard has proven time and again this season what a reliable goal scorer he is, with an average of 83.5 minutes per strike easily the fastest rate of any midfielder right now. Indeed, despite limited minutes, he’s still matched Yaya Toure for league goals, with four to his name so far – a suggestion that even if he has to make do with a substitute role, he’s still more than capable of finding the net.

What’s more, the 36-year-old squares up to a Palace side today who have accumulated just one shut-out in their last ten outings and are without a win in the previous four. Despite their striker crisis, City have every reason to be full of confidence – Pellegrini’s side have won seven on the bounce in all competitions and at a price of just 5.4, Lampard could prove a canny short-term budget buy, with a trip to West Brom and back-to-back home encounters against Burnley and Sunderland to follow.

James Tomkins

With raiding left-back Aaron Cresswell currently the popular pick amongst West Ham’s rearguard, Tomkins has remained firmly off our radars. Owned by less than 1% of Fantasy managers, the 4.9-priced centre back is the cheapest of Big Sam’s backline regulars and, despite scoring just once so far this term, has produced 11 efforts inside the box – a total bettered by only two other defenders.

Tomkins’ aerial threat heightens his appeal as the Hammers play host to Leicester later today. Given that Nigel Pearson’s side have conceded more headed attempts than any other so to this point, it’s fair to assume that Allardyce will have his side primed to take advantage – with plenty of high balls into the box expected, Tomkins close-range threat from dead-ball situations is likely to pose the Foxes problems.

Defensive returns also look a strong possibility. West Ham have conceded just two goals in the last five in front of their own fans, whilst Leicester have found the net in only three of the previous nine Gameweeks. Given that Tomkins has racked up two assists, a pair of clean sheets and five bonus points in his last four at Upton Park, there’s every reason for optimism heading into this afternoon’s encounter.

Papiss Cisse

Yes, he’s not yet 100% fit ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby clash with Sunderland. Only yesterday, Alan Pardew conceded Cisse is still carrying “a heavy cold” after missing the midweek cup loss at Spurs but bearing in mind the St James’ Park showdown isn’t until tomorrow afternoon, we reckon he’ll load up on the Lemsips and make the bench at worst.

Cisse’s impact as a sub in Newcastle’s previous home match, where he climbed off the bench to end Chelsea’s unbeaten record with a 38-minute brace, underlined his form. In just 520 minutes, he’s racked up seven goals and an assist – indeed, when on the pitch, he’s played a part in 89% of his side’s strikes.

After back-to-back defeats at Arsenal and Spurs, Pardew is desperate to halt the Magpies’ slide and a win against the Black Cats looks the perfect pre-Christmas tonic. At 5.8, Cisse’s predatory displays have earned him maximum bonus every time he’s found the net this term and his ice-cool finishing could prove decisive in the heated atmosphere of the first Tyne-Wear head-to-head of the season.

      Costa

    2. Gary Stevens

My take on Costa vs. Hazard

      Costa:
      20% chance to score 2 goals * 8 points = 1.6
      34% chance to score 1 goal * 4 points = 1.4
      5% chance to assist * 3 points = 0.2
      60% chance to get a yellow card = -0.6
      TOTAL EXPECTED = 2.6 points

      Hazard:
      10% chance to score 2 goals * 10 points = 1.0
      30% chance to score 1 goal * 5 points = 1.5
      20% chance to assist * 3 points = 0.6
      50% chance to keep clean sheet * 1 point = 0.5
      10% chance to get a yellow card = -0.1
      TOTAL EXPECTED = 3.5 points

Just pondering Clyne ---> Clichy (for free)

Even with Clichy's uncertain starting position.

Wouldn't it be better to start Clichy (because of City amazing fixtures) and if he doesn't play, Wisdom or Hutton to be auto subbed on, than play Clyne who has a horrific run of fixtures and his team are not in form?

Random discussion was happening & 3 people say ADM is better than Hazard as if it's not a contest so I post on the next page "ADM isn't currently better than Hazard" & that Eden had 1 bad game this season against Villa. Interesting responses! 😀

    1) You're MENTAL (as if I compared ADM to some random average player)
    2) What has Hazard achieved to be even compared to ADM followed by "this" by another guy! (I wasn't talking about their trophy cabinet)
    3) ADM is more direct, has more vision (so what, Hazard has his own special qualities which can't be matched by ADM)

All I said was he isn't currently better than Eden & people speak about history! Gotta love this site! 🙂

I agree for the most part, both players are incredibly talented and among the best in the world.

Obviously Hazard is outperforming ADM right now not only because he is injured, he has only been in the league for what 3-4 months max?
Much easier to exploit defenses when you've played against them before.

Also, ADM is a rare breed just because he is naturally left footed. Those players only come around every so often, while right footers are a dime a dozen.

      Hazard.

Open game last season at the Britannia. We haven't really kept any clean sheets this season (joint lowest I think) and I suspect there'll be goals at both ends with them taking it about 3-1.

Expect Hazard to do well on Bardsley's side. He has struggled defensively this season and most of the chances we concede come from his side.

Chelsea front man that looks like he's older than me.

      1) He looks older than me but claims he's 18 years younger - ha !
      2) Stoke concede for fun.
      3) Monday night football, Chelsea in prime time to show off.
      4) Hazard hasn't been rested yet for the festive season, and he will at some point.
      5) Chelsea usually totally destroy one team around this point of the season, i.e. 6 or more goals.
      6) I won't have to have a captain fail hanging over me from an early game like usual.
      7) I haven't captained him all season - true story. Seems like it is about time to get over my resistance as Gargatron says I've been a fool picking captains to date.

      Hazard.
In form. Expecting an open game. He's on pens. He attracts bonus points. He's also a little differential as captain.

If you ignore the bookies and take only this season into account...it looks like this:

        15% chance to score 2 goals * 8 points + 3 bonus = 1.65
        75% chance to score 1 goal * 4 points = 3
        0% chance to assist * 3 points = 0
        53% chance to get a yellow card = -0.53
        100% chance to play > 60 minutes = 2
        TOTAL EXPECTED = 6.12 points

        Hazard:
        0% chance to score 2 goals * 10 points = 0
        37.5% chance to score 1 goal * 5 points + 2 bonus = 2.6
        18.75% chance to assist * 3 points = 0.56
        50% chance to keep clean sheet * 1 point = 0.5
        6% chance to get a yellow card = -0.06
        100% chance to play > 60 minutes = 2
        TOTAL EXPECTED = 5.6 points

Finally, made my mind to keep my armband with Hazard.
Stoke's vulnerable penalty conceding history & Monday night football are some of the reasons influencing my decision.Another reason being Bardsley, was shitting bricks against Bolasie last match and he's facing Hazard now. Hazard will take him on & beat black & Blue IMO.
Hazard has been in form recently and those away miseries in terms of FPL points should come to an end someday, I strongly believe this will be the week.
With lack of one stand out Captain choice this week, it'll be interesting to see the battle of different captains.
My money is on Hazard.. .All the best people!

      I'm gambling on Sakho.

I don't like any of the heavy hitters I have this week (though tempted by Yaya) and I don't have RVP.

Leicester have the worst away defensive stats, West Ham have been scoring for fun and Sakho has fantastic underlying stats as well as scoring consistently

This time I experimented and captained Eriksen as recommended by Rate My Team against my own better judgment, bypassing Downing, Austin, and three Chelsea players. Never again. 🙁 Still, I've moved up the overall ranks by 10,000 places so far. Go figure.

1pt behind in GW15 in ML, 35pt swing to me in GW16. With a 34pt cushion, both I and rival have Yaya. Only I've got Austin (unless he swaps out Dzeko).

    A) Does that mean I should gamble on Austin(C)?

Unlikely I'll lose top spot if Yaya does well. Austin seems to get BP at home when he's getting any. Seems a little safe to go Yaya, but I missed how City were last week vs LEI.

    B) Do I need to consider Downing?!
