There was plenty of Christmas cheer this week as our members articles and tables offered some tasty statistical treats for high spenders and Scrooges alike. Speaking of Scrooge, there were more than a few cries of “bah, humbug” in our hot topics as the community braced itself for some unwelcome festive rotation. This week has also seen the Scout Picks team take on their highest ranked Community Champion competitor yet and we find out just why one half of our Scoutcast team, in particular, was full of festive spirit.

The Community Articles

Triggerlips won the right to represent the community for the Boxing Day fixtures in the Scout Picks following a close Gameweek 18 Community Champion vote. As our updated Hall of Fame showed, he is the highest achieving community member the Scouts have yet faced.

Meanwhile, we brought you news of a festive break from the Scout Pick Champions Vote. To help us keep up with the busy schedule we are reverting back to the old single Scout Pick method for Gameweeks 19 and 20. Normal service will resume in Gameweek 21.

Following a rare triple blank for The Puntmaster in Gameweek 17, he’s hoping for a better showing from his trio of options for Boxing Day. He also revealed details of a special Christmas competition for budding punters.

Elsewhere, The 3rd Turd delved deep into captaincy statistics to find out if a premium price tag really does translate into a premium point score.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Boxing Day is likely to bring further team sheet surprises and there are more to come over the festive schedule, according to our Christmas rotation horror stories discussion. Among the most unlucky managers in years gone by was Snotgrass, who last Christmas earned zero points for his non-playing captain Yaya Toure and vice captain Wayne Rooney.

Normally Parm is another who fears further rotation. His visit to the ghost of Christmas past turned up these interesting statistics about the pitch time some of our key players have enjoyed in previous years. For JimBobMu, Gameweek 17’s hero Pablo Zabaleta is a shoo-in for a rest at some point. There were plenty more names in the frame for rotation in our round-up of the safest and most at-risk players on Boxing Day.

Doosra dropped by with a Christmas premonition and a sack full of statistics showing that Alexis Sanchez is in dire need of a rest. The downturn in his attacking output has certainly been a worry for the Arsenal midfielder’s owners in recent weeks.

Sticking with the Gunners, Bubz had their defender Per Mertesacker in his sights. The German may be a World Cup winner but his recent performances have been nothing short of shocking, says our community regular. There were also plenty of community members gunning for Diego Costa this week after his disappointing Gameweek 17 blank. StephenL15 was among those to chip in later on and reveal ditching the Chelsea striker in Gameweek 8 catapulted him from 159,000th to 149th in the overall rankings

Fortunes Always Smiling was full of festive nostalgia as he invited the community to look back at the season’s highs and lows so far and Normally Parm revealed just how deep an obsession with Fantasy Football can get, when you start to look forward to Boxing Day matches more than Christmas Day itself.

The Members Tables

Attacking midfielders is the focus of The Hut’s latest Table. If you sort by the last four Gameweeks some surprising stars of yesteryear are revealed near the summit.

Further up the pitch Di-can-i-o Di-can-i-o has been looking at forwards and their goal shooting accuracy, while Vimanas has combined the best of both worlds looking at shot accuracy for both midfielders and attackers.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

The Tinkerman was replaced at the summit of the FFScout moderators and contributors league by myself following Gameweek 17. But the real story of the league was Granville’s ascent. He climbed to ninth, controversially narrowing the gap with his Scoutcast co-host Mark to just two points going into tomorrow’s matches.

In many of our other prominent community leagues it was business as usual going into the Boxing Day fixtures, with Ciaran Lamont continuing to lead the Puffinboy Memorial Cup, Adam Johnson remaining top of the FFS Dead Zone league and Dan Clark sitting pretty at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club, a league for our more senior community members.

    Thoughts on this -8 hit:
    Sanchez out, Cazorla (c) in
    Sakho out, Kane in
    Elliott out, Panti in

Or would just a combination of 2 above for a -4 be better (last 2)

    Current team:
    Guzan, Elliott
    Baines, Ivan, Zaba, Chambers, Hutton
    YYT, Hazard, Sanchez, Siggy, Downing
    Bony, Austin, Sakho

    Thanks.

Is this some sort of joke? There is no stats to back up Rooney (C) atm. When you taught us Hazard who scored about 55 Points in last 5 home games isn't a good pick this GW I really expected you to much more than doing a Reverse OOP your Captain whose threat has diminished quite significantly in recent weeks.

    7. A Defender's Nightmare
      • 13 Years
      11 years, 2 months ago

If he's fit, he starts. If not, he won't be in the squad. This is not the match to put Hazard on the bench. Hammers are far from solid defensively this season. Hazard has 50+ Points in last 5 home games.

Agree. I'm captaining him assuming he's fine. If not, Yaya will do just fine as vice captain.

If he's fit, Mou will start him. Mou is not a fan of Schurrle and West Ham are no pushovers, so he'll start his best 11.

If he is not fit, then he won't play any part, and hence people will have their VC.

So it's either he plays close to 90 mins or he plays 0.

By the way, he wasn't on your captains poll 😛

Zabaleta, Clichy & Fabregas > Hazard, Ivanovic & Wisdom ?

Good bet if looking into a early january wildcard?

        Team is:

        Pants(Kasper)
        Iva-Baines-Chambers-Wisdom-Hutton
        Hazard-Sanchez-Silva-Downing-Sigurdsson

Does anyone have a decent theory whether or not Alexis/Hazard will play tomorrow? Im up for some discussion. Hazard got a pretty serious knock last game, and if they were to rest him this would be the easy way out since they play at home. Sure its West Ham who are decent, but theyre still pretty heavy favourites. Same goes with Alexis, although they dont have as much room to rotate as nobodys really fit to fill his place. Thoughts?

Thats what the papers think, too. The downside is that they both have exellent fixtures, and should they feature they could be in for some big hauls..

I will be happy if they do start but just don't want to chance captaining , i'd rather have a safe 10 points than a risky possible 2 pointer similar to what a few people got by captaining Bony last week , it's like take a safe 10 points or gamble it for double or nothing , I want to play safe captaincy wise

I'm not sure how bad of a knock it was with Haz. It was the end of the game and wasting a little time at that point - up 2-0 - is never a bad thing.

i think Sanchez will sit as QPR should be a pushover and Alex didn't look good last week.

              But just my opinions

I saw the game, and the first I thought was Willian looked tired and didn't do much. If anyone was to be rested it's him. If hazard can make it he will play.

              i have both.

alexis looks knackered. yet, they don't really have a whole pile to bring in, so i say he plays. that said may be a bit more withdrawn as welbeck and giroud will also probably start.

hazard is slightly injured yet declared himself fit to start, mourinho has said noone will play throughout xmas. maybe this is his time for a rest - bascaily i wouldn't captain without a very reliable VC.

Hazard says he is fit and nobody has any quotes from Mourinho saying he is a doubt so I think we have to presume Hazard will start until someone can produce something reliable that proves other wise .

Sanchez : We don't know if or when he will be rested so we should presume he will start until we get something concrete he will not . But put the armband on either at your peril

Can't see Haz being rested for this game as it is against a team in form and a danger of dropping points. Therefore he could be gone for Dec 28 as a result.
Sanchez however has the easiest fixture that Ars have in the next month so I can see him watching from the stands.

As a Gunner, Giroud right now looks to be in the best form he has been in since he joined us, but...I don't see him, or sadly Arsenal, getting much of anything out of W Ham, Soton and City away.
