Just a few hours after the final whistle went at St James’ Park, we bring you an update on those players who have picked up injury concerns on the back of today’s nine matches. A certain City midfielder is our headline act ahead of the champions’ home match against Sunderland on Thursday.

Aston Villa
Ciaran Clark was forced off with a back problem in today’s goalless draw with Sunderland. Paul Lambert also confirmed that Jores Okore, who replaced his fellow defender, was on the bench as he wanted to protect him after a lengthy injury lay-off.

Chelsea
Oscar missed the Blues’ draw at Southampton due to illness, as Cesc Fabregas was handed the role in “the hole” for the second time in three Gameweeks.

Everton
James McCarthy was withdrawn at the break in the Toffees’ defeat at Newcastle after suffering a slight recurrence of his hamstring injury. After the match, Roberto Martinez confirmed:

“It was more precaution. James came back from injury on Friday and was able to play 60 minutes and today, at half-time, he was at a very high risk of injury so had to come off. It was feeling a little bit tight and because we know his history of previous injuries, we had to protect that.”

Hull City
Gaston Ramirez was forced off at half-time against Leicester with Steve Bruce confirming a groin injury post-match. The Uruguayan has been suffering from groin problems since his arrival at the KC Stadium on loan from Southampton.

Leicester
Leonardo Ulloa was withdrawn early in the second-half of this afternoon’s win at Hull after picking up a knock.

Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that Yaya Toure missed today’s 2-2 draw with Burnley due to a groin problem and will be assessed ahead of Thursday’s home encounter with Sunderland:

“We hope that he will be because it was a lesser problem but after 48 hours maybe it is too high a risk to repeat – [it is] a muscle injury in his groin. Yaya was not able to play today, 90 minutes. It was a risk for him. The players that played today were the players who were able to. Yaya felt a problem at the beginning of the last game against West Bromwich. He was not 100% so I think it was not good for him to play today.”

Pellegrini is also uncertain over Vincent Kompany’s availability for the Black Cats’ clash:

“We will see tomorrow if he is fit for the next game. It is very difficult now to know. He has some problems still in his calf.”

Manchester United
Antonio Valencia was replaced at the break with a groin problem, Louis van Gaal has revealed.

Southampton
Nathaniel Clyne missed this afternoon’s draw against Chelsea due to an ankle injury. After the match, Ronald Koeman confirmed:

“He got a kick on his ankle. He’s out for around 10 days. I don’t think he’ll be available for Arsenal game”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that Bojan was withdrawn late in against West Brom due to a potential hamstring injury but is optimistic the Spaniard will be fit in time to face United on Thursday.

Sunderland
Liam Bridcutt was forced off early off during Sunderland’s match at Villa after failing to recover from a head knock sustained in a clash with Christian Benteke. See Larsson was also withdrawn on 57 minutes with Gus Poyet confirming post-match that the Swede had twisted his ankle and sustained some ligament damage. The Black Cats boss did, however, play down the injury ahead of their New Year’s day trip to the Etihad…

“Seb has twisted his ankle. It is ligament damage, but nothing serious – a few days.”

Tottenham
Nabil Bentaleb missed today’s lunchtime encounter with United due to illness.

West Brom
Left-back Sebastien Pocognoli missed the derby loss at Stoke due to injury, according to reports in the local press. After the match, Baggies boss Alan Irvine explained his reasons for subbing off Stephane Sessegnon and James Morrison:

“Sessegnon has a bit of a calf problem that is on-going and has done extremely well to play through games.. James Morrison has been nursing a knee injury…Sessegnon and Morrison are going through a bit of discomfort. It wasn’t because they had played poorly. I was trying to look after them.”

    Haz, Alexis, Yaya, Downing, Soggy

    Austin, Benteke, Bojan

    A. Save FT, bench Siggy.
    B. Yaya ➡ Silva, bench Siggy.
    C. Siggy ➡ Silva, bench Bojan.

I'm in a bad space with the game at the moment. The last two games have been horrendous.

If I did this trade will I see the light

    Toure & Siggy -> Silva & Sterling

I would then have a front 8 of

    Sterling, Silva, Hazard, Sanchez, Downing
    Kane, Austin, Benteke

Fell from 900 to 4k last two weeks. Shocking stuff.

Wait for news on Yaya first I suppose.... I could do those two moves too but I don't think it's worth a hit.

Rooney to Giroud(c) for a hit.

I don't think there has ever been a worse transfer in the history of the game.

Ouch similar to mine so. I sold Costa -> Giroud (C)

            A swing of 15 points

Yeah I'd agree avoiding the hit. Silva or Sterling though? The latter might not start the next game

Baines at home to Hull is just not worth getting rid of for a hit imo.

          Neither is Siggy to Sterling.

Maybe just do Baines to Skrtel and leave it, if you're sick of Leighton.

I used to really like the first part, especially with Barbarians expansion. Did some good job with Alemanni and Jutes.

Apart from that I've only tried Shogun and Shogun 2. Couldn't get into it though. I'm no longer able to get into new games anyway. For the last few years I've been only playing Fallout, Football Manager and Paradox games.

Well the original obviously is 😉 the first one was Shogun 1. Then medieval 1. Rome then was a big upgrade where the grpahics and everything got better and it was less like a big chess board lol Then they did a couple of expansions for that and then did Medieval 2 and Shogun 2. The Rome ones seem very popular alright and always seem to be updating them

Just a quick Q on the Jan WC, becuase i feel they have not made it clear.

One wildcard can be played at any time. The January Wildcard can only be used after Gameweek 20 starts (1 Jan 11:30) until Gameweek 23 ends (7 Feb 11:30)

So, we can play the WC during GW 23 in preparation for GW 24? Does that mean we would have only the weekend and possibly monday to change the team? Can we even play it for GW24 or is GW 23 the last GW to be possibly played for? Cheers

I suspect Clichy will start v Sunderland and with the league's third weakest offence against it's third meanest defence it has to be good possibility for a clean sheet. But, yes, Hutton is currently there to fill in any gaps.

Nice differential pick, particularly if you're looking for someone to start occasionally, but not on a late wildcard - look at Leicester's fixtures Gameweeks 23-28.

Cheers for flagging that up mate. I hadn't realised.

Also, while we are here, I'll lay out the variables.

Sigi: 1 assist 0 goals away from home all season.
Plays Liverpool + QPR AWAY next 2:
        - Recently tightened up Liverpool. Monk will want to win against Rogers given history so may well play him meaning he will be dead Vs QPR.
        - OR, Shelvey will replace him in new CAM role at some point or even start due to being ex Liverpool and having good record against them. So won't get 180 mins either way, minutes he needs to correct poor away form.
        - Quote, "Monk expected to rotate squad ahead of liverpool tie".
        - Three games after are WHA (H) CHE (H) SOU (A)
        - Therefore has to face up against Chelsea and more importantly, Matic and Southampton defence in their home ground and probably at full strength.

Mistake I made was getting Fer and not Boyd.

Even then Fer has solid home record so 3 homed in next 4 made sense especially when they were managerless palace, hopeless away swans and Burnley away in next 3.

How about that for an FPL decission.
Enjoy having Nasri steal all of your Silva's points in the coming weeks while my Fer feeds Austin his bread and butter.

Exactly. If anything Fer is an Austin differential and for that reason alone should probably never have been put in my team. I'll learn one day. In the mean time I'm going to bask in 1.9% Ayoze ownership glory.

United have a decent run of fixtures coming up.

Only problem is the FPL points seemed to be spread out with so many options up forward.

It seems mad but is the one defender or De Gea worth buying soon also?

I bought Vargas for some stupid reason this week, I thought : QPR vs Crystal Palace ea Double Austin / Vargas There fore it is possible that they work together and give points but came out flat and was a " brainfreeze " Moment.

So, keep him with Austin to QPR vs Swansea and wait for the same and sell Bony or keep Bony and sell Vargas??

So, looking at my team, if Yaya is confirmed out should I get Silva or Sterling? All my ML competitors have Silva.

    Adrian
    Zaba Azpi Hutton
    Sanchez Yaya* Hazard Downing
    Austin Benteke Bony

    McCarthy Siggy Naylor Chambers

Can you see any transfers worth making to this lot?

    Hart
    Zaba, Terry, Hutton
    Sanchez, Hazard, Eriksen, Silva, Downing
    Costa, Austin

    Elliot, Kane, Wisdom, Chambers
    Bank 0.1m, 1 freebie

Chambers needs to go but my back 3 is ok this week and I'm not sure there are many better options out there for 4.9m or less (maybe an AVL double up with Vlaar, but then who to bench?)
