A disappointing Gameweek 19 comes to its conclusion this evening as Liverpool entertain Swansea at Anfield. Brendan Rodgers’ recent switch of tactics has brought Raheem Sterling back onto our radars – handed the central role up top in a 3-4-3, the youngster bagged the winner at Burnley last time out and, with a plum home clash against Leicester on Thursday, has the opportunity to persuade us he may be worth the investment.
At the back, the Reds have been decent in front of their own fans, earning a clean sheet in three of their last five Anfield encounters and will be buoyed by their visitors’ recent away form – Garry Monk’s side have scored just three goals in their last four road trips. Simon Mignolet returns between the posts this evening, whilst new boys Emre Can, Javier Manquillo and Alberto Moreno are all handed starts as Steven Gerrard joins Mario Balotelli on the bench.
Gylfi Sigurdsson’s away displays have afforded his owners cause for concern – the playmaker has blanked in six successive appearances outside of the Liberty and has failed to earn any attacking returns on the road since the season opener at United. Wilfried Bony’s imminent departure for the African Cup of Nations is also a concern, though with a goal or assist in five of his last six starts for the Welsh club, many owners will be happy to hold until he leaves for Ivory Coast duties in early January.
